New dog kennels

I have recently been told that Disney is going to/or has started to build dog kennels for over night:

I don't believe new kennels are being built. This new company is taking over the management of the existing ones.

Or after reading that article.....maybe they are doing both.

We used the Best Friends kennels at Fort Wilderness last week. Excellent service, SUPER Friendly staff, and very accomodating for a very reasonable price.

The manager told me that they were going to be building a full service kennel with indoor/outdoor runs soon. I'm not sure if this is going to be located at FW or elsewhere.

The park is there by loop 300. We used it in Jan. 2008. Dogs loved it.

I'm not sure if the staff is the same but they were Best Friends employees vs. Disney Cast members.

Yep, we did a sleigh ride at Wilderness Lodge in December and was told the same thing by our driver, who works with the animals at FW.

does anyone know how the dogs are kept during the day. I cannot seem to find what a dog suite is on the website. I would take my small dog with me but I would hate to think of him in a cage all day.

They are in a cage. When we have used them, we had to bring our own bedding, food, and toys. We had to place them in the cage and remove them from the cage ourselves. Disney staffers do no touch the dogs. You are responsible for letting them out to go the bathroom too. So, if you're at the parks, I would suggest using the park's kennel so you won't have so far to go when its time to let them go to the bathroom.

Oh my Lord! What kennel did you use? Did you have proof of shots? We used the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT kennels and the staff walked and cuddled our dog. Brownie is big-around 120 pounds or so-- so he went in an outside room.

It's all under cover with giant fans like in the park to keep the dogs cool if it's hot out. He had a cot and food/water bowls in his room. The also brought him doggie ice cream. The staff walked him three times during the day and when we went to pick him up, he was up front, behind the desk with the girls! LOL

They said, "He is so sweet and looked lonely so we brought him up here with us, I hope that's okay" Yep, he sucked them in with his "just hug and pet me and I will love you forever" eyes ~grin~

I am a big sissy when it come to my dog and would never kennel him....except at Disney. I guess it depends on your dog OP. Does he do well without you? The last time we left Brownie at home with my oldest daughter-after a few days he wouldn't eat and started chewing his hair off

He does much better at just being away from us for 8-9 hours while we tour the parks than being away from us for the whole nine days.

PS. I believe the inside pens are more like you would see in a vets office. I have some pics of the MK kennel, I'll see if I can find them.

Glad to know that is no longer the case. It was even written on the daily contract, that we are responsible to walk the dog so they could go to the bathroom because Disney would not. I am like you, very particular about my pooches.

I am so glad you posted here to give current information. We stopped using Disney Kennels because we didn't agree with their policy.

You're welcome We've only used the MK and EPCOT kennels, AK and MGM aren't full service so I didn't want to go there. They were no longer Disney staffed when we started using them last year I don't know if that makes a difference.

They did say they wouldn't handle any animal that did not have papers showing they were up to date on all their shots so we got that from the vet before we left. Did they tell you to bring your pups' papers with them?

Our Favorite is Magic Kingdom kennel, much easier to get to and a nice parking lot.
