New Dog at POTC

Hi there,

We were at the front of they line when they reopened after phase 1 rehab. Many of the changes are cosmetic including new paving in the queue line just as you past the turnsitle, it used to be plank but it is know paved and the lighting much improved. Looking with interest, I am sure they have changed the dog with the keys, his coat looks like new.

Thanks for sharing this! This dog is my FAVORITE part of the ride I have a pic of the old dog from my last trip. He certainly has changed!

It looks to me they have changed the color too. He resembles more closely the dog that was in the movie.

The ride will close on May 1st and reopen on July 7th for Phase 2.

No, the turnstiles are still there. So if like a friend of mine who uses a wheelchair will still have to enter via the rear,but who knows what will come.

Something I forgot to mention was the minor changes in lighting in the beach scene, its darker and the much improved audio thoughout the ride, voices could be quiet clearly.

Wheelchair users never entered thru the rear in POC, even 20 years ago. There has always been a wheelchair gate between the turnstiles that people with wheelchairs go thru and then follow the exact same line as everyone else.
POC has always been a "Mainstream Line", where wheelchair users wait in line and use the same entrance/boarding area as everyone else.

The boarding and exit of POC are actually in 2 different buildings. It's not possible to board at the exit because right after you get off the boats, they go thru an area that is only high enough for the boat to go thru to get back to the entrance.
Wheelchair users can only go on the ride if they have a wheelchair that is small enough/light enough or folds up to be tossed on the boat behind them after they have boarded.

If their own doesn't work or they have a power wheelchair or ECV, they leave it parked outside the queue and switch to a foldable manual wheelchair at the entrance to the queue (they have some waiting there for use).
After the ride is over, there is a back exit using an elevator because the regular exit involves going up a moving walkway (like an escalator ramp), which is not considered safe for wheelchairs. if a manual wheelchair was borrowed, you have to return that after riding and retrieve your own wheelchair/ECv from where it was waiting.

Your right of course, I remember now the reason we entered via the side was we were with our friends son who is autstic, a does not like queues that was the side entry reason.
I had thought because his Dad was in the chair was the reason.

Yeah. The side entrance is not really any more accessible to a wheelchair than the main entrance.
Even for people with autism, they tend not to use that side entrance because it involves having to be accompanied by a CM and going into a backstage area. (we have never used it ourselves, so I don't know by personal experience, but have talked to some people who have used it and gotten an explanation of it by PM from a POC CM).

I heard it was to reopen on July 1. I read it here and the refurbishment listings at Disney does not mention it being closed in July.

awww i love that dog, one of my favourite parts of the ride ...just a quick qu, what are they doing in phase 2 of the rehab?
