Anyone hear anything about some sort of new Disney stores opening up? Diznews reports that a "new" kind of Disney store is opening in the Westfield Trumball Mall, dubbed "The Mickey" on August 21st. It is supposed to be the first of 30 re-habs of Disney stores, which makes no sense since the stores were sold to another company. Can any body shed some light on this?

Mitros - The Trumbull store is open. It has a different look to it... mostly red and white with no cute charaters in the front. Same stuff, if you ask me.

Mostly kid items, with a few adult tee's and cd's in there.

That's it.

So, is this some sort of new store being started by the Walt Disney Company? Or are these renovation done by the new owners to old Disney stores?

The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. plans to remodel about 10% of their 307 Disney Stores by the end this year.

Click here for the press release.

Yeah, there will be about 30 stores will be renovated this year and about 75 next year, with 12 - 14 new stores also opening next year. Above and beyond the regular stores, 6 outlets will be opened in 2005. I have seen pictures of the new Mickey Stores, and I must say that I really like them. they now have a boys and girls dressing room, and most of the new stores will have restrooms.
I think the Children's Place is doing a great job with the stores... I have been able to see much of the upcomming merch, and it is awesome. There are new PVC sets, there will be toys for Narnia, and Pirates 2, lots of cool toys and clothes to coincide with Cinderella's dvd release, infant line will be re-introduced in the september stage set, bedding will eventually be available, new dolls being introduced for Christmas ( including Alice, Kim Possible, Lizzie, and Jesse)... Everything is just amazing!

But What About for Us Adults!!!!!!!!

Well, since The Children's Place owns the chain now, we adults lose out! Which is a real shame. :confused3

Adults are not going to lose out... there are going to be adult hoodies, new long sleeved shirts 2 for $20, and soon, the adult shirts are going to have mans cuts and womens cuts, as opposed to just one style. There are going to be slippers and such also...

So, these stores are not just for kids, they will have adult clothing??? :confused3

I was in a "new" Disney Store last night in Burlington MAss. It had moved from the very nice store downstairs to what looked like an area that had been through the wringer! The carpet was a disgusting mess, old and all stained. The stuff in the store was just on shelves as if it was a bad Kay Bee store. It surely shouldn't be able to, in any way, represent the Disney name.

It is probably a temp. location, while the old spot is getting the new Mickey makeover...

I can't believe they are redoing the burlington, ma disney store. That is a fairly new store...approx 10 years old. It was originally a tiny store on the top floor of the mall and they opened up I new one (I worked there at the time and opened the new one). That is sad, there are so many other older stores in the boston/nh area that could have gone for a refurb first.

I worked at another disney store, prior to the new one opening in burlington and I transferred to the new store. I was just in the old one I worked in this past weekend and it is in dire need of a refurb!!

:pug: :pug: :pug:

TCP is working on putting out more adult clothing.. so just wait and be patient! ;) And why is there a lot of kids stuff? IT SELLS! Especially around HALLOWEEN and the HOLIDAY / TOY SEASON.

They're also gonna be carrying infant clothing etc. This kind of mercahndise hasn't been inDS for years!

They are also opening one up here, at our Staten Island (NY) Mall. I just read it in our Sunday paper yesterday - I already forgot, but I think it is the Mickey Store. The entrance to the store has a big outline shape of Mickey's head. I wonder how one goes about applying for a position.

There was a Disney Store on the Upper Level - this is now in the lower level and they have downsized from 5,000 sq. feet to 4,000.

Yes, infant clothing too. ;) (But it seemed as if people posting were interested in adult clothing.) There was infant clothing last summer but it did not sell well because guests wanted specific and such.

Now I have a question about the people who work at these new stores by "The Children's Place". Are they still considered "Disney Cast Members"? And do they still get all the synergy training and Disney perks? Just curious. :scratchin

We're still refferred to as "Cast Members", but we have lost practically all teh perks. We do get a couple of passes for the parks, and 30% off TDS and CP merchandise, but that's about it.
