Which is very weird? People dont go to the same shows and restaurants on land time after time after time. They change them up. Why do cruise lines think people want to live on repeat on cruises?

Only rich people can afford disney cruise line in australia. But if the disney magic came with different shows and restaurants then people who loved the wonder would pay up again.

In europe they are now changing up the ships. Dream only did two runs before switching to fantasy. The australian fans are expecting the same.

I think most do if they repeatedly go to the theme parks. It's not like I only watch Fantasmic once and done. Or ride incredicoaster once and that's all folks! Many cruisers repeat the same ship many times.

Repeat customers are not rare.

This is just absurd. The Magic was the sole shop sent to Europe from 2007 to 2022. The expansion of the fleet allowed DCL to send a larger ship into the market. It also allowed them to expand into Australia.

The Wonder has been visiting Alaska since /2011. No other ship has been there. The Fantasy has been the only since since 2011 to do 7-night Caribbean itineraries from Florida.

The Wonder has been in Australia/ New Zealand a whopping four months split among four home ports and everyone is already tired of the Wondrr? LOL

They are discounting sailings because they started extremely high in aud and they are sending the same ship as before. Most tourists dont repeat holidays. There needs to be something new. It’s bizarre that they dont swap the magic and womder around. Not just australia but california as well. They could charge higher prices if they did.

They’re discounting the sailings because of the weak AUD relative to the USD. Australia/ New Zealand sailings are literally the cheapest offerings by the major US cruise lines, for that reason.

I’m really, really surprised DCL is even in the market. Considering the low fares, plus even lower fares on the repositioning that eats over 50 days, there’s no doubt they could generate twice the revenue if the ship remanded stateside. I highly suspect DCL is receiving a subsidy and will exit the market when it runs out.

I love how all the DCL fanatics sag the same thing. Yes, the food, service and entertainment is so bad on Royal that they keep building megaships that generate fares that rival those on DCL.

That said, I would except that if they replace and/or add a second ship to Alaska, it’ll be a Dream kr Triton Class ship. The four new ships will likely be larger and Florida-based.

With Juneau wanting fewer passengers in port do you think they would go against their wishes? DCL quit going to Key West because of local sentiment.

We've been on DCL, NCL, PRINCESS, HAL and RCL and will never go back to RCL...Going back to NCL next month. I don't cruise based on cost, but SERVICE.

It’s not going to shrink the size of the ships in the market. If anything, it will lead to move itineraries skipping Juneau.

Popular Cruising on YouTube has posted a video which explains that the Triton Class has been build in the larger of the two covered building docks at Meyer Werft. However, Carnival has another Excel Class ship being build in this dock in 2027. This means that the new DCL class will have to be built in the smaller Meyer Werft building, so they’ll have to be smaller than the Triton Class.

I know you're trying to push a specific agenda here about things being too repetitive, but disparaging the clientele (on a Disney board of all places) isn't the way to do it. Yes, DCL charges a premium, especially on limited itineraries/destinations, but it's a little on the nose to phrase it as if it's some sort of snobby elite that are going on the Australian cruises.

The OP’s post is silly anyway. DCL is commanding a much smaller premium vs. Princess, Royal and Carnival in Australia than in the USA.

The OP also needs to research the DCL’s pricing in the USA. For a family of four, most cruises are priced between (USD) $1,000 - $1,300/night for an interior room. That’s out of reach for most Americans. In contrast, most of the Australian cruises are about half that.

Yeah the poster really seems to be out of touch with reality.

I have an Etsy shop and sell a lot of items for cruises, most of my clients are far from being rich or well off, I am also not but visit the parks and cruise every year or two. You don't need to be rich to enjoy Disney cruises or parks - but you do need to budget.

If Aussies are expecting a different ship then they are the ones out of touch, as I said the same ships have been doing the same routes in the USA for decades, why would we get a different ship here in such a new market? And a small one at that?
They really need to beef up the offerings though, the 2-3 day cruises aren't what most Aussies want.

The Fantasy is only going for dry dock, and Europe has the Magic for 10+ years before that and only the Magic. 2026 the Dream is going back again.

I think they could (and should) build two ships between Magic and Dream class size. Make them verandah heavy (unlike the Magic class.) Cold weather-ise them so have more indoor seating areas with views. Designate one for Alaska and the West Coast and one for Northern Europe (seasonal.)

And then do two Triton size ships but hopefully not Triton class considering there will already be four Triton class ships out there.

And you got lots of likes on your post for sure. I think this is why RCL and others have their smaller ships and then the mega-ships. Diversity of options is great.

When I first heard about a second Disney private island I was excited they were finally going to compete with Perfect Day at CoCoCay. They literally already have two water parks at WDW to emulate. Put them on an island. Instead they did a basic carbon copy with retheming of Castaway Cay. If DCL really wants to encourage lifelong business and get teens / young adults, they’re going to need to cater to this space more. While not abandoning the cruisers who prefer the smaller and more sedate ships, keep those options too!

Eh my kids will go wherever I want as long as I'm paying the bill, once they start footing the bill they can pick what we do (speaking as someone who had to stay off site for her first couple WDW trips).

I just don't need a water park at sea, or rock climbing or an ice rink or anything like that. But I also don't do those things on land...

I think it’s a safe bet that all four ships will be uniform in design. Two separate designs would add hundreds of millions in design and construction costs. Disney probably got a sweet deal from the near-bankrupt ship builder in order to move forward with this order.
