New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

With the additional ships coming, wonder if they'll join the long overdue trend of ships being built with accommodations for solo cruisers
I think they should consider a handful of normal rooms with a shower instead of a bath. I hate that currently I’m having to book a HA room as I can’t step over a bath at the moment and Disney doesn’t offer anything else.

The cruise is in September and there was plenty of HA availability but I still feel guilty about taking one when that’s the only thing I need it for.

I fully get why they have baths in their rooms, but a few without them wouldn’t hurt.

Supposedly that was supposed to be part of Triton Class. Didn't happen. I wish it would.

I believe Concierge Maiden Voyage sailors can start booking activities on Tuesday! I’m curious to see if there’s anything different available. When the Wish first sailed… when was the Star Wars Lounge bookable? At activities, or check in or 30 days or ? I’m curious to see what the length of stay Rainforest rate is too.

I can’t see them not retiring the Magic and Wonder if they are adding four more ships. Guess I better start getting some more nights on them!

I hope they don’t build copies of the Wish class for the new ships… I’ve not been on the Wish but I’d like some variety to pick from in the future.
They're quite adamant about a total of 13 ships.

They’re not. It’s a PR event - not the appropriate venue to announce the retirement of the Magic and Wonder.

You’re comparing different dates. The Wonder includes July 4, and holidays always drive up the price.

The 7-night Treasure over July 4 (6/28-7/5) is starting at $10,066 for a Verandah for 2.

Good catch!

Never thought about the holiday and didn't plug in June only July. However it's still the first year for the Treasure. (Inaugural Cruises)

Gary Bembridge (tips for travelers on YouTube) posted a video about multiple ports that are going to be limiting passengers. I do not think Disney will set themselves up to be caught with their pants down when this happens. I think this will be a new trend and expand to more ports.
This is what I'm thinking. There are so many ports now that don't want the larger ships or will only allow a certain amount of passengers at a time and more seem to be following suit. It would be wise for Disney to stick to some smaller ships to be able to go places these enormous ships will not be allowed in. That would make them more desirable. I feel like some of the behemoth ships will eventually just ended up sailing to nowhere because nobody will allow them in in the future.

The logic in this thread is insane. All four major cruise lines have commissioned larger (200K+ GT) ships. These ships are all designed to be destination-style and will likely spend the majority to their time home ported at Port Canaveral / Miami / Fort Lauderdale, moving passengers primarily between their private islands and select Bahamas / Caribbean ports. The longer people spend on the ship and private islands, the more $$$ the cruises make.

It’s absolutely naive to think DCL will be different. Look at the spread Royal gets on its Oasis/ Icon-class ships vs. its Voyager-class ships performing the same itineraries. People pay $10K for a 5-night DCL vacation because they want the full Disney experience. They want to enjoy the ship, see Mickey/ Minnie and spend time at the Disney-created Castaway Cay. They’re not going to pay that amount to ride a Magic/ Wonder-type ship to see crappy secondary port.

Even Princess, which pioneered the classic extended destination-rich cruising experience is moving toward destination-style ships home ported in PC/ PE, primarily serving its private islands.

I would handily bet that these ships will be significantly bigger than the Triton-class and will replace the Triton-class in PC/PE.

The competition managed/ is managing to modify their private Bahamas retreats to handle their mega ships. Why can’t Disney? Even Los Angeles beat the NIMBYS to expand and modify its port to handle larger cruise ships.
Because of the restrictions in place that DCL agreed to that only allows a certain percentage to be developed. Apparently they are already close to it that is why they decided on LP.

On edit: If you think about it, it would have been better to expand the dock and upgrade CC to handle two ships if they had been allowed.

it’s four new ships. It’s reasonable to expect DCL to expand in Southern California, Galveston, seasonal NYC and a second ship/ expanded seasonal service in Europe and probably Alaska.

If DCL keeps the Magic and Wonder, it’ll allow those ships to perform some exotic itineraries. But there’s not a lot of room for growth into secondary ports.

They opened up LP because they increased the number of calls into the Bahamas’s. They could modify CC to increase the capacity without significant development, just as the other cruise lines did.

They have to dredge in order to increase dock space also. Based on previous discussions they apparently aren't allowed to do that either.

Disney is not a party boat, it is geared towards families and kids. I think solo cruisers would be creepy on a Disney ship.
So if my sister and I want to cruise together, and I don't want to share a cabin with her because she "must" have the TV blaring all night long (been there, done that), we should pay for double cabins?

Or if I'm widowed and want to cruise by myself, I should pay full price for a double cabin?

The greatest advice I’ve ever gotten is “in life, you can do whatever you want - as long as you pay for it.’ DCL will have to give in to the same concessions as the other cruise lines. Mainly they most of the calls into CC/LP will have to include Nassau. Which isn’t a big deal since most passengers aren’t interested in the ports as much the ships.

As I stated earlier we can all guess and speculate. We'll know for sure in a few years.
