New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

Really my pondering comes down to the wild card third ship. Why toss in an extra unless they were planning something different/big? I feel like Disney tends to be very conservative but it feels rushed, so why? I can't imagine what they gained from keeping that third ship a secret as long as they did unless they just didn't know when the rumors started swirling and info started leaking. Did they get an offer they couldn't refuse from the shipyard? Its someone else chipping in? If China or another investor is putting up money then they'd be more willing to take a risk on trying a ship there.

Or heck maybe they just reeeeeally like printing money in the Caribbean and there is nothing to see here. Always a possibility too if much less fun. Southerns are pretty much standard fare at this point... maybe they're going to run them all year long. :surfweb:

Interesting theory.

Oh. Maybe that makes a difference?

Yes. One of the reasons European cruises tend to have a higher percentage of Europeans and Asian cruises tend to have a higher percentage of Asians as passengers is because they do not have to travel all the way to the US to cruise.

I don't know if they can compete in the Asian market without a casino.

As far is the Asian market I don't think Disney's anywhere near ready for that from what I understand the clientele over their likes to gamble which disney has no casinoAnd from what I have read there are several other things that they look for that the Disney ships simply do not have.

I disagree, I think you’re making too many generalizations about “Asians.” There are MANY passionate Disney fans in Japan and China who would love to cruise DCL. Other cruises lines do one way 7-day cruises between Tokyo and Hong Kong, so it might be a perfect opportunity for Disney with a stop at Shanghai Disneyland along the way. Yes, the ship design would need a little tweaking, but I’m sure if Disney’s marketing research shows demand, they’ll do it.

I was wondering about which shows they would put on the new ships just the other day. I was thinking Coco, but Moana is a great idea as well.
Three new ships, so we need three new themed shows

Have they ever had a Peter Pan show? I will add that, Coco and Moana to page one. Coco would be a lot of fun especially if they put a Mexican themed restaurant on board!

Just did post cruise survey (Wonder two weeks ago) and it asked if I would be interested in sailing out of these ports: Boston, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Seattle, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Southhampton, Venice. This is in addition to current ones. Not sure if this has anything to do with new ships or just collecting general information.

Haven't they sailed out of Southampton already?

What would be a wonderful option, but I don't think Disney could spare a ship for the length of time it would require -- is if they did a couple of world-type cruises a year! Cruises that last 20 or 30 or 50 or 70 days, etc. Of course, those itineraries on other lines are expensive anyway, but Disney's prices would probably require that you take a second mortgage on your home!

There really would be a way to do this if they broke them into smaller segments and used a ship as an ambassador to visit new ports. We booked a NCL 14 day med cruise that could be booked as a 7 day eastern, 7 day western, or 14 day grand med. At the 7 day mark a large percentage of people left the ship, new people got on, and a core of us continued on. The only sign something was “off” was doing a muster drill twice and on day 7 the new people had a different energy (super excited to start their cruise while the rest of us were in the groove).

I’ve seen several world cruises that were purchased in 2-3 week segments. So it’s possible to do something like this and not only market to people with 70-120 days to spare. That said I agree with you on price and doubt a second mortgage would even cover it haha.

I would LOVE a Peter Pan themed nursery. When we sailed, we were dropping our daughter at the nursery on pirate night and Peter Pan was in there shouting “I love coming to the nursery” and we got to make jokes about not taking the babies off to neverland. The theme would be perfect.

Wow, a Coco themed show would be amazing! Also I would love to sail out of Baltimore as that is close to me but I don't really see it happening.

We disembarked in Dover, which is very close to Southhampton so I must be missing something in terms of why S would be a better port. We loved sailing in, seeing the white cliffs, looking at France across the channel, and the other things we toured in the Dover area.

Besides the previously-suggested name of Disney Imagination, here are two more ship names that also pay homage to original pavilions at EPCOT’s Future World:
Disney Horizons and Disney Seas.

That way, all three new ships could honor Walt’s dream of EPCOT.

Umm, nice thought but Walt's view of EPCOT wasn't anything like what ultimately got built with those three pavilions. Also, picking nits, the Seas did not exist when Epcot first opened.

I don’t see Seas. There’s already Tokyo Disney Sea. And RCL has Everything of the Seas. Horizons is not bad but I think it would be singular. I loved that attraction. First I ever went on.

Good points, but the ideals of the original EPCOT were closer to Walt’s than how it is today, IMHO. And while the sees wasn’t open on opening day, the plot of land for it and plans for it were. Anyway, I’m moving on. Kungaloosh!
