?NEW DISNEY RESORT? What name, theme?

The nascar thing sounds really dumb to me. Disney has magic and "themed"resorts. Disney doesnt own nascar. I really doubt it if they want a bunch of redneck hicks and race fans running around. Disney is there to please kids and familes, NOT just fathers. Go to race cities if you want to see nascar, go to disney if you want to see Mickey!

I just came from at week stay at WDW and a weekend at Daytona - to see the Bud Shootout which is a Nascar race. If you'd ever been you would know that Disney has a whole line of Disney Nascar stuff - several different cars with drivers such as Daisy, Donald, Mickey, and even the Big Bad Wolf. They have shirts and official Nascar jackets with the name DISNEY and on them. So YOU may think it's stupid but obviously Disney doesn't, since they already have their own line, all they are missing is an actual car and driver which I wouldn't be surprised if that happens in the next few years. As for the "fathers" being the only race fans - in my family it is me, the mother, and the kids who are the fans, Dad doesn't much care for it!

I think an Atlantis/Under the Sea type theme would be alot of fun.

Someone once mentioned to me that Disney had originally planned on building a resort modeled after Venice. I would totally pay deluxe rate x 2 to stay there...especialy if they had some sort of canal system with regularly scheduled gondola rides :)

I LOVE that idea!!

Hi there,

Crazy, but in the travel industry most things have been done, so why not build an underwater resort.

I know their is a resort already called this.

No need for buses, just dust of the subs from 20k lagoon.

That was totally uncalled for! First of all the original poster was just playing an imaginary "what if" game, she was not suggesting that Disney open a NASCAR resort. Even if she was, I can't believe that anyone would be that insensitive, or uneducated. I happen to be a NASCAR fan (I am watching the Daytona 500 right now.) I live in Wisconsin, but was born and raised down south. I would not consider myself a "hick" by any means. I have been to NASCAR races and the people I see there are just like people everywhere else, there are many different people with many different appearances and personalities. Although I am sure that I have been called worse names than "redneck hick" I still think that you need to be careful how you label people, this is supposed to be a friendly board!!!

Don't let it get to you. If you do a post history search you'll find this individual has made some seriously insensitive, classless and rude comments.

I like the pirate and under the sea themes (except under the sea might be considered too close to Beach or Yacht club, since there are already so many themes along the lines of oceanic stuff...)

I wrote this once elsewhere but I wish they'd redesign the Contemporary into an elegant universe type environment w/ planets and stars...more like the inside of space mountain while you could still be in tune w/ the idea of the "contemporary". I just love the location but wish the interior had a diff design (sometimes I wonder if they planned the resorts to stagger availability--they leave old designs with great locations alone so there will still be people staying in further out deluxes like AKL for the sake of ambience). JMHO.

I also like the castle theme, but one could make it for boys if it also involved alot of medieval knights, kings and horses.

I think my vote will go for a snow vacation theme, like a rocky mountains skiing resort, with mickey and minnie in those caroling outfits, a small ice skating area, a pool that looks like it's in the middle of an iceberg, and Disney characters from movies like Beauty and the Beast (some snow scenes in that one)....

Either that or a jungle themed resort featuring Tarzan, character's from Bug's Life or else the characters from Disney's Dinosaur. (maybe following some of Animal Kingdom's theming, like the dinosaurs meet bug's life)

I think they should make a House of Mouse hotel (in the moderate category since they seem to need more mods) with all the characters which includes a restaurant like the show with cartoons playing while you eat and lots of character interaction.

Those are fantastic ideas. I love the idea about the Contemporary. I agree that it would be a lot better with a different interior design. The castle theme would be really great too. I would love to stay at a castle theme resort. :) A snow vacation theme resort sounds amazing. I'd love that one a lot!! Your ideas are wonderful. :sunny:

That's interesting...kind of a Wilderness Lodge meets Blizzard Beach. However, living in Michigan I see enough of that white stuff as it is!

I'm not sure that now would be the best time with all of the M.J. controversy but I think a themed resort after the Peter Pan classic would be pretty cool.
Open it up just east of River country and let the the new water park be home to the lost boys. (Rehab of course) Great for kids of all ages and would be in an excellent location for Wishes, boat rides, and the most magical place on earth. :earboy2:

I completely agree that they need to definitely do something with the Contemporary. I just don't feel like it lives up to it's name anymore. I like your idea, but it would also be cool if they made it up like New York New York in Las Vegas, or even up to par with the Dolphin or the Swan. I know they are working on remodeling, and I am interested to see what changes they have planned.

One could make it more Alaskan or like Antartica w/ penguins, icebergs, bambi and thumper to make it more distinguished from WL. The lobby could use a lot of glass (like crystal palace) with a big Disney sculpture in the lobby that looks like ice but isn't (ice is too hard to maintain I think).

I think my favorite is the disney dinosaur hotel in the jungle atmosphere among happy insects or else a Tarzan/ Jungle book type theme sans the dinos.

I can't help but vote for a pirate themed resort. My ds is such a huge pirate fan and it's even had an effect on my three dd's now! We are definitely a pirate-loving family.

However, MGM does have the villain thing going on, so a villain themed resort could work near there too.

Oh...both of those sound really cool!

DH wants a Greek-themed resort...Hercules could be the movie support for it.

OK..... the response to the Nascar resort was uncalled for. The Nascar community, believe it or not, are deeply rooted in Christian beliefs. A lot of people could say a lot about people who watch football, basketball, etc., but just because I may not like football, for example, I am not going to say mean things about it. I hope you rethink what you said.

AND I think that a racing themed resort would be awesome.....Along with the other ideas shared, you could combine racing for the boys and the princess theme for the girls and have a spectacular resort!!!!!!

I got so mad at missiowa that I forgot to post my resort idea. I like the Asian Resort that was a partof the original plan of Walt. It was supposed to be in the area between TTC and the Contemporary. It stil seems to be the best resort idea and one with many ways to "cross market" with movies, toys, etc.

Same here on the Asian resort. I saw some concept photos of it on Tikiman's website and I think if they did right it would be cool. Also a hotel that is themed off of Mickey and friends would be good also. Make the hotel a tribute to the early days of Disneyland and WDW with retro styling and decorations. Make it look and feel like Walt would be walking through the door at any time. A nicer version of the Disneyland Hotel with a ton of features and a cool name. I often think about this and have a ton of ideas.

the idea of theming a resort after a specific characters is a great idea. a mickey & minnie building, Belle & the Beast building, plutot & goofy etec. combining that idea with one that was posted earlier about having a suite type concept, suite-type rooms that were of a value to moderate price. after all many many families would love to have a disney themed suite on-site, but just cannot afford it and cram themselves into a smaller room. :crowded: the space issue was something that forced us into going to a deluxe room because having 2 growing teen age boys we needed more space.

as far as a themed resort after a country or continent, wouldnt that take away a bit from Epcot.

2 more thoughts:

isnt auto racing one of the largest spectator sports in this country? i believe this may be true. a nascar resort may not be a bad idea. i personally would not stay there not because it is dumb but because i am not a race car fan. they could place this hotel mabe somewhere near the Petty Driving Experience

mabe they could just re-theme the other half of pop century that isnt finished yet.

I would love it if they built a resort with an India or Middle East design, like a maharajah's or sheik's palace. Obviously a Middle Eastern one would fit in with Aladdin, but maybe they could do a Jungle Book thing with an Indian one (although there was little civilization to be seen in that movie).

I love the suggestions of a European resort. I don't think they'd do a "castle" theme because of Cinderella Castle, but I think a French Riviera-type resort would be fabulous.

I know that I should just ignore this and not even honor it with a response, but I couldn't help myself. Evidently, missiowa doesn't know too much about NASCAR and its fans. NASCAR is very family oriented. It does not appeal to just fathers at all. Plus, I was very offended by the comment that WDW would not want a bunch of redneck hicks or race fans running around. My family are huge race fans. If that makes us rednecks, then so be it. My DH and I are both well educated professionals and I doubt that Disney doesn't want us to visit just because we are race fans.

I'm sure there are tons of race fans all over WDW at any given moment. So far, they haven't caused any riots or ruined the atmosphere of Disney.

Sorry if this is rambling, but for some reason I took this post very personally and became quite offended. I've said my peace now and I feel better :)

First for the original poster - my DH and I live in the northeast, have never lived in the south and certainly couldn't be called "rednecks". Yet we were both glued to the television yesterday to watch Jeff Gordon win. (yeah!!) So I think that your husband is totally right that this is a growth area. Only issue that i see is that Universal already has rights to the NASCAR Cafe so Disney might have issues with licensing.

Of the suggestions, i think a suite family oriented option is a big need that would do very well.

My idea: Greece. A theme which could have a greek restaurant and really cool god/goddess fountains in the pool area. Buildings could be named after mythoogical charactors. The Greek Isles feel would fit with florida weather

My resort would be called:

THE HAKUNA MATA RESORT

It would be a hotel with concierge service to all guests but not concierge prices...Everything would be taken care of for you since hakuna mata means no worries. Actually I think this would have been a good name for the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

This is a great game..I love imagining what Disney could do!!!
