I keep on seeing that the proposed Disney park in Shanghai has almost reached a deal. I'm surprised that Disney is deciding to do this in this rough economy. I hope it does well.

Another thing that's kinda strange is that I heard rumors and read online that in Texas, locals are saying that Disney might of bought land there. I don't think so. Again, due to the economy, I just don't think that this is the right time to build another park. But, you never know.

The first part about Shanghai is true...not sure why there, but whatever.

As for the second part, there's been rumors for about 27 different states in the U.S. where Disney has supposedly "bought land" etc. for probably the past decade and nothing has ever come from it.

For G_d's sake people look at the news we are in the midst of a major recession. Disney nor any other major corporation has the capital at this point to built something on the scale of a new park. In addition as mentioned by the poster above rumors of a park in Texas, Louisiana, Virginia, etc. has been going on forever and isn't going to happen. The only expansions that will take place are overseas (like Shanghai) where the local government or other private company puts up a majority of the capital and all Disney has to is rake in the profits!

China's economy is faltering as well. Seems like an odd time to even consider building in Asia.

Who hasn't heard that for the last 20 years? :lmao:

The Shanghai park is a definite. The other day, CNBC's Erin Burnett intrerviewed the President of all things Disney in China while touring HKDL. He would not stop talking about the Shanghai park, dealings with the Chinese government, etc. etc. Though he said it was still in the early stages, the economy would not deter Disney's intentions to open another park on the mainland. I can only assume, as with HKDL, the government and other local sources will foot a huge portion of the bill (and subsequently the profits) to make this happen. It should also go a long way to crushing that fake DL which alreadys exists there. That's the strangest thing I've ever seen.

As for another park in the U.S., the only remote possibilities were the Night Kingdom in Orlando and that piece of real estate across the street from DL in Anaheim. But Disney doesn't have the coin anymore to spend on those pipe dreams. It will be a good 15 years before a new park, or parcel, gets built in the States... any state.

Well he couldn't talk about much in HKDL while touring it

I've been to HKDL, it's a lovely park but seriously needs more things to do there.

"Shanghai is the largest city in China in terms of population and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 20 million people"

Why the hell havent Disney already built one there is all I have to say on that?

And as for the USA, if you live nearer the west go to Disneyland and if nearer the east - go Disneyworld. If you live west but can afford the extra and want a longer vacation, go Disneyworld anyway.

Sticking a Disney park slap in the middle of America would only make for more day trippers who wouldnt bother with a full vacation to Disney coz they could get there fix in a day or two.

The only hope the United States ever had for a third Disney park was the one proposed for Virginia. At that time it was proposed it was a concept waiting to happen and Disney had the money. Thanks to the citizens of Virginia it was stopped and never will happen. Now with all the changes in the world a third Disney park in America will never happen!
