Greetings: I have never posted on the rumors board but I heard a very interesting Disney rumor that I thought needed some discussion here.

I was talking with a former WDW castmember who stays connected with the ongoings of Disney. He said the Disney is creating a new concept type of theme park that consists of several islands that will be purchased by Disney. Eash Island will be themed around one of the Disney movies or rides. Vacationers will purchase a week stay on the island (AKA survivor concept) and enjoy a virtual interactive week of activities that relate to the theme. For example, One of the locations will be themed after Pirates of the Carribean, another 2000 leagues under the sea, etc.

All vacation scheduling will be 7 day inclusive purchases that covers transportation, room, board, entertainment fees....

Any credence to this rumor??

Sounds great to me and I know I could sell a ton of these vacations as a travel agent- but Disney needs to work on the parks they have now!

Greetings okwmiester!

This rumor is a new one for me but it does sound nice. Any word on where these "islands" would be?

Welcome aboard!!

Interesting concept and I wonder where it fits on the reality scale of 1 (hey guys, wouldn't this be cool) to 10 (the deeds for the islands are in the vault and the plans for the resort are drawn up).

I agree with Patricia - I think Disney will focus on fixing the existing parks before they attempt to turn any such rumor into reality.

I think such themed Disney resorts could be a nice novelty, but I'm not sure what kind of long term appeal they would have. Maybe people would take a Pirates of the Caribbean vacation once, but would they go back again?

Sounds like it would be expensive,(for the guests)even by Disney standards. Didn't ME say that capital expenditures were going to be curbed for awhile ? Would be cool, but I think they are going to concentrate on the existing parks...least I hope they do.

We had better not post this info on the DVC Board. This could open a big can of worms related to Pool Hopping!

This would be a great idea, but as OPs have said... It is quite a stretch and Disney needs to focus more on what they currently have.

I can see Disney trying to do this on the cheap; overnight stay in Pirates of the Carribean attraction.

On a more serious note they might be able to try something different with Discovery Island.

They could give you a tent and a BB gun. If you kill ten birds a day for five days, they up-grade you to the WL for the weekend at no charge.

I would definitely be interested in something like this. I'm sure they would tie it into the Cruise Line in some shape or form. It's interesting to note that when my family did the Magic in it's innagural year we were asked to fill out a survey about what we liked/disliked the most about the DCL. What seemed to prevail as the best part of the cruise was our stop-over at Castaway Cay. After talking with other guests that we met on-board during that trip it became apparant that CC was the highlight for many on board. If you read many of the recent reviews on the DCL board you'll see that CC still ranks at the top for many. Based on this type of feedback I always expected them to offer some sort of multi-day stayover at CC, but I never imagined something on the scale of what's being suggested here. In retrospect, and if true, I believe that this would be a natural extension for DCL only if the stop-overs are kept to a minimum(not the 7 day stays as suggested). Otherwise this concept would have to stand on it's own merits.

Let's see....discovery island, those two islands in the seven seas lagoon, that little island between wilderness lodge and contemporary, tom sawyer's island, pleasure island, that big rock between the yacht & beach club and the boardwalk...bring your own sleeping bag :)

Here is more clarification about this rumor.

I am hearing that there will be one large island that will consist of several theme based venues. People must sign up for one of the attractions (You can't jump from one themed area to another). If you sign up for the swiss family robinson adventure, you might stay in a treehouse and participate in activities related to the theme. Pirates of the carribean will include ship wrecks and sunken treasure hunts. 2000 leagues will take you beneath water level to explore ocean life.....

Anyway, it appears the rumor is not several islands, but one larger island that is devloped to offer several reality based interactive engagements for tourists. Hard to say if it will be linked to the DCL, however, my bet is that it will be somewhere in the Bahama's???/

That would be so cool.

Actually, they wouldn't really need to separate them out in really hard ways. I wouldn't mind sleeping in the tree house, spending the day at the beach, going on a sub ride in the afternoon, etc.

This would be very cool. Sign me up! Just think of all the options-Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Pirates of the Caribbean, 20,000 Leauges, Swiss Family Robinson, Tarzan, Isle of Naboombu, Peter Pan...!

A HAUNTED MANSION ISLAND!!!

Remember talking about the hotel? How cool would it be to have a whole island...

Ohhhhh the dreams already!! I would be booking before they break ground!! (Actually for any of these, but especially the haunted mansion...)

:)

:smooth:  I used to believe a lot of what CMs said about goings on at disney, but, over the years through personal experiences, I have learned to take what they say with a grain of salt. About a month ago, we were at a bar-b-q at a friends house and were introduced to a family of cast members . A mother and two daughters , each working at a different area of WDW.. It was great getting to talk to 3 CMs at the same time! The upshot of it all was that apparently, cast members are encouraged by managment to take what they know, rumor or cold fact, and disseminate the information by either telling the whole, or part of the truth, or embelishing as they feel the need to to questioning guests. Mansgement says that since disney is so much make believe, the answers given by CMs can also be make belive. In short CMs can tell all the tall tales they want and to play the guests for "suckers", although not with any malice or meaness. So. I guess you never really know what's true until you read a press release, or actually see something being built. :(
