Hello! Lurked on this forum for a few weeks now. I guess it's time to start posting over here ;)

My mother, my Matron of Honor and I will be in WDW in January to take a look at a couple of ceremony and reception spots. How close to the trip can I call to set up a tour? When I called DFTWs, she said it wouldn't be a problem at all. Just call when it gets closer. But, she wasn't really clear on how close... and I don't want to have all of us finally there and then not have anyone available to guide us.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome, and congrats!!:cheer2::banana::wizard:

When are you planning to get married? I'm not 100% positive, but I think you can start talking to people and doing site visits as far as 2 years out.

I want to know the answer to this question too! I'm going down to WDW in March, and planning on getting married in January 2012 (escape wedding). So when can I call to set up a tour?!

Congrats! I literally called DFTW when I was driving on my way to Florida (it was an unexpected trip, went for a funeral) and they were able to see me the next day! So they are very flexible, but if I were you I would call and schedule something about a month in advance.

Good luck and congrats! We never got such a response in fact we heard from noone until we actually booked and all that. Our planner never even took us to our space in the planning session.... Keep in mind that most of the ceremony areas are easily found on your own and accesable enough to the public that if you aren't familiar enough with WDW already, you can probably I date say see more places on your own than on a formal scouting appointment. Good luck and welcome!!

In our case DH called DFTW about 19 or so months before our date, we were due to visit WDW during a race at 18 months out to our date so we wanted to have a site visit and test the waters.

They got back to us within the day and set up an appt for a site visit. Our coordinator showed us all the venues we requested, she printed out all the menus that she had available, a time line and info on locations, etc and took incredible good care of us, she was just amazing! Needless to say we were very impressed and sold. :thumbsup2

As a matter of fact I will be sending her a gift and a great thank you letter after our VR, gotta make a note of that, she kept me sane during the first months of planning.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!
I've been posting on the Dis for awhile but, for some reason, I was getting a case of rapid heart beat and sweaty palm from the Wedding forums! Nerves I guess!
We're hoping for a late February, early March wedding. With ceremony and reception at either Boardwalk or Beach and Yacht Club. More specifically, SBP and the BC/YC Marina.
I know we could check these out on our own. I just it would be nice to have someone to answer some questions. Okay, my mother would rather have someone to answer questions.

But, basically I could call right before we leave in January to set up a tour?

Feb or March of 2011? You can book it already if it's next year.

If it's 2012 you can call DFTWs and ask for a site visit. I had mine booked about a month before our trip in Aug. 2009.

Oops sorry! 2012.

I called in September to book our site visit in early November. When we do our site visit we will be 2 years out from our date. So technically I started talking to DFTW 26 months in advance ..wow!

That's awesome!! I WISH we had that experience!!! Either way no worries- lots of info to be found on the interwebs!

I actually called DFTW right after I got engaged back in may and they told me to call back in oct for an april 2012 wedding, which I did. Actually I am heading down to disney for the week between christmas and new years and set up a site visit for then about 2 weeks ago, so I am pretty sure as long as they have a schedule you can make an appointment. Have Fun!

You can email or call now and set up a site visit. We're scheduled for January for a site visit and our wedding is in may 2012. Site visits can be scheduled 24 months out from you wedding date.

So did I just have the completely disinterested CM on the phone? She really didn't even want to discuss the possibility of a site visit. She just kept saying they don't do them until within a year of the wedding date. And to call back closer to the trip. It was like she couldn't get off the phone fast enough. :confused3
Oh well, I'll call back in December. Maybe I'll just send an email.
