New Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park Map

Disney has a new DHS park map given the opening of SWGE. They changed the orientation of the map, which in my opinion is so much better than the old version which was oriented north/south.

I have been going to DHS every year since 1989 and the north-south map discombobulated me every single time. I have no idea why they changed it before. Dumb!
I also dislike Epcot maps where world showcase is on the bottom of the page and future world is at the top.

One interesting thing about that map - there is an undeveloped space right in the center there by SWGE and TSL. Wasn't that about where the backlot tour was? Or the little playground for the kids they removed. They should at least put that back in I think. As far as I know, there isn't a place for the littles to play in DHS now

Good question.

That cartoonish map leaves out a lot of actual details and is not exactly drawn to scale. That area has a service road and is also where they basically built a large landscaped berm to “block” your view out from SWGE (and in from the outside). It’s part of what makes the feeling of SWGE so real as it’s both a physical and visual barrier to other things. And that map definitely exaggerates the size, there’s not nearly as much green/unused area when you look at an aerial.

In a similar sense, I get a chuckle at how the map makes Commissary Lane look like some grand/wide walkway. In reality, I can almost never find the darn place when I’m there!

I was on a solo trip in Feb and hadn’t been to that park in several years, and no matter how many times i looked at the map I couldn’t figure out how to get to Toy Story Land. I kept ending up on Comissary Lane! It finally dawned on me that I had to go all the way around the other side of Chinese theater but for some reason the map didn’t seem to line up with the actual layout to me

Between SWGE and and the Great Movie Ride show building is where the Honey I shrunk the Kids playground was, where the main entrance to SWGE is, and as other have stated the area is much smaller than shown on the new map. Now just the berm and a service road. Fun fact the loading area for Slinky Dog is where the old Mickey Water Tower was located.

The map is even a little exaggerated with the amount of green space there. The service road and guest accessible areas of SGE are actually much closer to the TSM and Mickey's Railroad show buildings.

The only option is left. Entrance is on the Grand Avenue side. The path to TSL is exit only.

I think they changed the orientation of the maps several years ago so that the top of the map was North. It was supposed to make it easier for people to coordinate the picture with the GPS maps they were using.
I liked the original maps with the entrances on the bottom too!!

Do you know if that is temporary? Do they plan to open the end by TSL as an entrance also? We're not going until February, and I'm just trying to plan my days better.

Yep, you are right. The prior generation DHS maps (before the most recent north-south one) were oriented in the same as this new one.

Thank you, been checking it out with the wait times. Not that I am there, but withing I was.

I haven't been to SWGE yet but from what I can see, the exit path to TSL is very abrupt. Everyone out in DL made a big deal about how SWGE is so isolated and the entrances are awesome transitions. Where was the thought planning and imagination in that?? I am not a SW fan at all but I am a fan of disney keeping different lands in their own space.

I'm so happy to see the map orientation change! I felt like a fool as I could never get the previous one "right" in my head!
