My first trip to Narcoosee's was a memorable one, but not in a good way. It was over 10 years ago, and we went to the Grand Floridian to celebrate my Nana's birthday in style. The meal was not good. It was boring, i was disappointed. I never wanted to go back. This all changed a couple years ago when Amanda and i needed to find a 2X TS restaurant to use up. We looked at a bunch of menus and decided on Narcoosee's since they had a Surf and Turf entree.
What happened next was startling.
We loved it! We've been every year since, and always have the same thing...Surf and Turf! I've seen a lot of negative reviews on here saying things like the lobster was rubbery, or the steak was over-cooked. This has never
ever happened to us. Every time is a joy.
Our server introduced himself as Chevy (like Chevy Chase, he pointed out) and he was kind of a tool. When my mother asked if they had any Gluten Free bread, he kind of sighed and made a big deal about how he'd have to put the order for that in
now and it might take awhile. We were fine with that, i guess he wasn't. I pretty much ignored him the rest of the meal (until dessert) so i was able to still enjoy myself.
Despite the wait and the attitude, the Gluten Free bread was great!
Mom and Dad both went for hot drinks; Dad, a decaf coffee, Mom, a tea. Chevy was quick to point out they didn't have just
tea, he'd have to tell her about all the different kinds. Kind of unnecessary, especially since they did indeed have
just tea, a.k.a. Orange Pekoe.
They loved the fact that both beverages came in beautiful presses.
Mom, Dad, Amanda and i all had the S/T. As i am a huge risotto fan, i opted to switch out the potatoes for it, and Amanda did the same.
It was excellent, as always. We were, however, disappointed a the lack of Brocollini this year! Where did it go? Hm. This year's risotto was delicious, glad they went back to the reggiano instead of the red wine.
Steaks were cooked perfectly, lobster was tender. Just great.
Dessert ended up being quite a problem. I usually have the key lime creme brulee, which is also naturally Gluten Free. Chevy informed me that they had gotten rid of it this year. When i expressed my disappointment (aw, that's too bad *sad face*) he went into a huge tangent about how that particular creme brulee took too long to make and blah, blah, blah, i stopped listening. Didn't care. I was bummed, but life goes on and i didn't need huffy, short and rude excuses.
The only Gluten Free option, besides ice cream, was a Gluten Free cheesecake, which Mom and i both ordered.
I hated it. Mom didn't mind it. I thought the consistency was gummy and rubbery, and there was a distinct aftertaste. I honestly would skip dessert next time if this was the only option.
Dad had the Bittersweet Chocolate Mousse Dome.
He loved it and said it was very flavorful.
Amanda had the chocolate pecan tart.
She liked her dessert too. It was very pretty and i was very jealous.
Our bill came to $352.09. There's that awesome Dining Plan coming to the rescue again!
Overall it was a great experience. I was bummed about dessert, but wouldn't have given up my Surf and Turf in exchange. I think maybe Chevy needs to relax and find a new job...maybe some place where the clientele will be able to match his pretentious, impatient and rude sensibilities.
