New dining options?

Good point, there's a big difference between the way a 10 year eats & let's say a 15 year old! Our son is 9, turns 10 in March & I just can't imagine he could ever polish off an adult portion of anything LOL.... Maybe my seven year old could share the 10 year old junior portion LOL....

My assumption would be that since I will be able to purchase the passes starting January 2 for my stay at Saratoga with no restrictions, that I will be able to purchase the meal plan add on also. Why should I be restricted from utilizing a program a program like this because I am a DVC owner? Doesn't make it very attractive to own now does it....better to stay at the all star for $79/night then! Just a thought!

From what I heard, the dining plan is attached to a room package w/tickets, not the tickets themselves.

It was posted earlier that DVC is working on a plan for members.

I'm guessing you'll need to buy the package for everyone in the room - that's the way it seems to be working for the resorts. Which means that if you have a light eating ten year old, a spouse that is on a continual diet and won't eat three courses, or are the type of family that splits meals, this might not work out to be a great deal for you. (Assuming it works like I believe, assuming it every gets offered to DVC).

And age is probably not a great indicator of how much someone will eat. My mother at 62 eats very little, my seven year old can pack it away like a teenager. And I swear I have a girlfriend with a teenage daughter who is a breathatarian.

And likely for the entire length of stay.

Just bumping to see if anyone else has any news. I wonder if any other guides have offered any inklings?

Just spoke with CM Beatrice at MS about a January trip and was told they still don't know if MYW will be available to DVC or not. Although she did say it has both a dining and a recreation option, she couldn't/wouldn't give any more details. She did think it would be tied to tickets and not available to APs. But said no more info available until January 2, our check-in day.

I find it very frustrating that MS never knows anything. I mean don't get me wrong, I know they just underwent a major change with MYWAY, but all customer server reps should be briefed on all the options prior to the major press release.

I am still interested in this as well, so I guess it's a bump from me too. :)

The fact that it is past 2/1 and no plan has been announced for DVC members probably indicates there will not be one for 2005. DVC got the large discount for AP's for members and DDE is now available for AP holders. I see the fact that they expanded DDE from just Florida residents to all AP holders indicates that is the alternative for those who do not want or can't buy a MYW package.

But not all DVC members are AP holders and, for those of us who aren't AP holders, it would be nice to have some sort of dining option. It still may be in the works, not all perks run year to year.

I have been asking and asking about meal plan options since we became members last year. Always get different responses but nothing clear. Now that my trip is in March and I haven't heard that a dining plan is available, I was wondering about meal vouchers. I have seem them on e-bay, even made the mistake of buying them for last years trip. Honestly for what I paid on e-bay, it would have been cheaper to eat without. So does anyone know how or who can buy these meal vouchers and where? I would love to get them for the price they are worth and not some inflated e-bay rate. Any information would be great. Thanks-

Go over to the Budget Board and look for the "Sticky" threads at the top of the Forum. You'll want to read the one about Connections as well as the one about Meal Vouchers.

Best wishes -

If enough owners call MS to request this dining option we will eventually get it. I have three trips planned beginning in Oct 05. I hope there's some news before then. I called MS today and the rep I spoke with said the DVC wants to be able to offer it to members but Disney hasn't given the go ahead. My guess is that Disney wants to wait awhile to see how it goes before offering it to DVCers since once offered to members it is harder to take away if it is too costly for Disney.

I'll bet it will cost more than the current $35 per adult/$10 child for a similar plan. Remember that they are re-couping some from the room costs.

And Disney has no problem taking away discounts it views as "too much trouble" or not cost effective. Remember the Magic Kingdom Club? It was discountinued after 40+ years of operation.

I'm so glad so many people feel the same as I do about the meal plan options. I spoke to someone in December from Disney dining who told me come January I would be able to purchase the meal plan from them of DVC. I thought that was great. But they also said they just found out about it that day and that they did not have all the details and could not tell me the few they had only that it would be a great savings for members.
I can't believe the runaround I have had since then. When I tried to follow up with Disney I was sort of brushed off. I'm still hoping something will be available for our March trip, though I won't get my hopes up.

I have a question. Does anyone know if you can combine the AP discount for food and the 10% discount you get for food as a member at certain places?
Or can you use only one form of a discount? I have to say that going to the menus around the world website has been a big help in our planning. Its nice to know how much you should budget for before you go.

You can only use one discount. I bought the DDE to get 20% off. I have 3 trips planned this year so it should be worth it.

It seems we're in the same boat:boat: . We're also leaving in October of this year...

I also spoke to a CM on Monday and she told me they are trying to work something out but SHE personally didn't have more details than that. I agree that if all who are interested put in a call, it might speed things up:moped: .

So.... BUMP!

So there's no more word about DVC members being able to buy the dining option? I think it will me lumped in with the MYM park tickets, which is too bad, I'm a PAP holder. If I'd known that this was coming out I might not have gotten the PAP! As a DVC owner and PAP holder I have essentially promised that I will be going back to Disney LOTS of times not only in the next year, but in the next 50 years - so why can't I get the meal plan as well?

It's interesting how these things evolve, let's see what happens.
