Anyone use Wells Fargo for banking? They are about to start charging a $3 fee every month for using your debit card.

Yeah, it's only $3 and not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I find it pretty annoying anyway.

Just a heads up.

I hadn't heard that yet. So, they encourage you to use your debit card for like everything, and now they are going to charge a fee? Maybe time to switch banks...thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, I saw a story on it on the local news and then had a notification about it in my online banking today. Starts in October.

As much as I hate added fees, $3 is not that bad. Some months ago Webster changed my previously free over age 55 account to where you had to have a minimum balance or use your debit card for 10 signature purchases per month or be charged $8.95 fee per month.

I now make a point of using my card as a credit card to satisfy their requirement one month I messed up and was charged the $8.95. What happened to if you have direct deposit an account was free?

The banking system these days is very frustrateing.

I don't have any notice - I just checked my online banking. Is the fee waived for meeting deposit thresholds or having direct deposit?

I just went onto my wells fargo account and there is no notification about this at least on my account.:confused3

I am wondering the same thing, Vicki. I checked on line and there weren't any messages for me. I also received my banking statement a few days ago and there wasn't anything under the "Important Account Information" area on the front page.

I do think it is crappy for them to charge fees, considering many people are struggling financially.

I have been with WF for 18 years and I really don't want to change.

Alright-- appears to be rolling out in Georgia at the moment. Lucky me! Sorry to worry anyone else, but you know it's coming sooner or later...

I'm in Nevada and I just read the change on my bank statement. Looks like I will start moving everything over to my credit union.

Dh works for another major bank, and they are going to start implementing similar fees soon :sad2:

Say what?? :confused3 I banked with Wachovia for several years and now of course were taken over by Wells Fargo. I use my debit card a lot and haven't heard that yet, but I'll tell you, if that ends up happening, I'll be banking elsewhere...to many choices around here.

I was going to ask if Wachovia customers were grandfathered in but you answered my question. We were switched to Wells Fargo last weekend. We don't own/use a debit card, just an ATM so I'm hoping we will be safe. So far I'm not overly pleased with Wells Fargo. We've looked in to other banks and will probably switch.

My account is still associated with Nevada WF..I better check..haven't seen anything yet and just did BillPay a day ago..but I do have direct deposit (with my tiny second job which means I can't ever quit since my main job and DH job don't offer direct deposit) and auto transfer stuff, so maybe those won't be charged? Guess I'll need to go cash and checks now..yikes..they push us to use debit then punish us for it?

For those saying you're going to switch banks.....most of the banks are doing this now due to the new government policies on fees....etc. Suntrust is going to charge 5.00 a month....again while 5.00 isn't much it's 60.00 a year and it's a FEE to use what's already mine? I can write checks for everything, but I would think that checks cost them more money to process than a debit card......so if they force me to carry more cash, write checks and charge everything to my credit card during the month to avoid the fees....who's really winning?

I think it's irritating to pay a fee to have access to my money.....just saying.

It looks like we will begin using our checks more often now. I agree with the pp, I think its crazy to pay a fee to use your own money that you worked hard for.

I guess it is neither here nor there at this point. I am guessing it will happen all over and I will just adjust accordingly.

If / when my bank does this I will ask for a plain ATM card, non debit if its a no fee and i will go to 100% cash and check... Forget this you got to wonder what the heck our congressmen and senators were thinking on this one... The more they mess with things the more its hurting us... Did they not think this through!

Lets see limit what the bank can charge a retailers for their debit / credit transactions... does anyone think the retailers will be lowing their prices by the 1% to 3% because of this? Ummm NO!

This just goes to show how out of touch our government is with reality!

I just called WF customer service to see if this applied to our account, which was a Wachovia At Work account taken over by WF. The CS rep said that it does, as of October 14. We use cash 90% of the time so we will likely give up the debit card and just use our credit card (which as of now is no annual fee) and pay as we make charges. I refuse to pay to use my own money. :headache: Hopefully I won't end up eating my words!

I don't see this in my statement or online yet..But..I agree..this makes me mad since they encouraged us to USE the debit..and then when they get everyone pretty hooked they charge us? I'll use cash or charge everything and if Billpay stops being free I'll go back to checks. (yes and get stuck paying for postage, but it's the principal)

I didn't find it in my statement or online either, or in my messages online. Here's the consumer account fee & information schedule addenda for GA:

https://www.wellsfargo.com/downloads/pdf/online_disclosures/ADD/EN/ADD-GA-EN.pdf

Different states have different agreements. This is the link to find the info for other states:

https://www.wellsfargo.com/wfonline/consumer_deposit_acct_fee?state=none

And I skipped all the other pdfs and went straight for the addenda, which is where any changes would be.

Knowing ahead of time, at least now when I reach for my debit card I'll be on guard to consider other payment methods and hopefully have that worked out by Oct. 14.
