NEW DCL policy on all power cord things

Can you get clarification as to whether or not this includes USB charging adapters?
(The sort that have only female usb ports as input, not A/C outlets.) Most good models have two outlets that draw at least 2 amps, which are suitable for tablets, and a couple more that draw 1 amp, which will normally recharge a phone.

A high-quality USB adapter can charge 4-5 portable devices on a draw of under 6 amps, which is the normal draw for one plug on a 110v. outlet on a DCL ship (according to verbiage in DCL's special needs information, the outlets are 12 amps each.)

If it's not a extension cord or surge protector then it shouldn't be affected. The device your describing is a charger.

Of course it's a safety issue. that's why they don't charge you for them - you are supposed to get the full deposit back. If they were doing this to make money, they'd have a nonrefundable portion of this deposit. They want only cords in use that have been checked by the ship's personnel prior to use. The deposit is just so you won't take it home with you. Unless anyone thinks it was done solely to inconvenience the passengers.

reread what I said, I indicated that they are likely being forced to adopt a policy due to insurance restrictions.

But sure, since they were considering charging for the privilege of early dining, why not rent them out, would you be shocked if they did start charging a fee for them?

Does anyone know if the TV's have a USB port that can be used for charging? We have used those for charging in some hotels, depending on the TV.

We will be in Venice before our European cruise this summer. We planned on taking a small power strip to use in our hotel there. Will they confiscate it when we board the ship? If we just had to hand it in when we check our luggage and get it back when we disembark, that's not too bad.

If they wanted to charge a fee for them, they'd do it now. I do agree it may be an insurance thing, but that's because it's a safety issue. They can't know what shape a cord is in that was brought aboard by a passenger, unless they want to station an electrician at embarcation to check every one of them.

Here's a picture of the inputs on the TV, the USB one says "USB IN SERVICE ONLY". I don't know if that means it can (or cannot) be used for charging:

So if they're gone, you're S.O.L.? And there is no way for you to reserve one for medical purposes? What if you're too slow to get to one and they're all gone to those who may not need them for medical purposes? :scratchin

That is why I am bringing one also for them to check (just in case). We will only use it with cpap.

I am not sure why some are worried about charging iPhones etc. There are several electrical outlets in the rooms on Magic and Fantasy at least and Disney is not saying you can't bring the device chargers, just not multi outlet extension cords and big power strips.

Yes, it is a charger, but since any device that steps down from A/C to USB should include an integrated surge protector, there is a possibility that they could be banned as well, which is why I asked for specific clarification.

If you want a specific clarification, you'll need to call DCL and ask them. No one here has the authority to make such decisions or determinations.

One thing, if you call and ask 3 different phone reps, you'll likely get 3 different answers, so I'm not sure even they could help.

I would say the final word would have to be at the port.

Is it possible to bring a power strip or extension cord and ask DCL to just hold it for us until the end of the cruise? We will be departing from one location but disembarking at another, so it would be nice to have our power strip or extension cord for the rest of the vacation after the cruise.

This would be my question as well. DCL won't be the only destination on our trip. I wonder if you can just keep then in put away suit cases and not use them.

Even if they take it you can get it back after the cruise. As long as you remember once you are off the ship. They will have tables set up at the port.

I'm fine with what they provide in the room because it is just my daughter and I but it was against the rules before yet we were given an extension cord in our welcome package from Dreams Unlimited last year.

I guess that DU will have to either stop including one or switch to one approve ahead of time by DCL.

Well, to be realistic, the 16 hours is when you'd probably want to be out using the devices, rather than stuck in the cabin rotating chargers off of the outlet.

John I agree.............

However you can pop back to the cabin and change out units charging in 30 seconds.

perhaps, but I think that over simplifies things when you consider excursions and other activities, When I leave in the morning I want my batteries charged for the day. It's surprising to me that they can't have more outlets in these rooms. Install enough outlets from the start and you don't have the problem with surge protectors. We'll see how it works, but these inconveniences add up and lower the value of the trip to me.

A $50 deposit for a 5 dollar power strip? That's a little silly.

Now that is a point, If this is really a issue, they need to change the classic cabin and add outlets!

Since this is likely to extend to other lines, how are the outlets on those vessels?

As to the $50.00 they don't want cash, its on the cards and it does make sure the cord is returned!
