"Better" is very subjective. There are lenses out there sometimes referred to as all-in-ones or superzooms. Tamron makes the 18-270 for your camera. It has very good reviews for what it was designed to do. It has similar aperture ratings to the two kit lenses you are currently using. It will have similar lowlight restrictions that you have now.

is there a lens a little longer in length that is good that is better than the 17-55mm that i wont have to keep switching my 55-250mm lens back and forth with? just wondering

you mean better than the 18-55IS ?
the Canon 15-85mm but it's going to cost more, there is also the Canon 17-85 but it's not better (optically) than the kit lens

thanks for the advice. Im not sure why it takes so long to put the pics in the computer, its really fast for everything else, being a quad-core. but when i took about 300 in 18MP size, it did take about 45-60 mins to put them in the computer. I just guessed that if i take 2000 at wdw this trip, it would probably take all day, literally going by that speed. It seems fine the first few, then slows down for the rest. I usually dont crop any pics, or at least have never done it yet, usually take them and keep in computer and print out some for the album, but who knows, maybe i could crop some down.

Have you checked the card itself? Have you formatted it in camera? Is there a problem with it? Have you tried another card? Is it a slow card (although this seems too slow for even the slowest card).

The card has always worked fine before, it is a class 10. have not tried another card yet, but in Med mode, it transfer fast, its the high mode that is really slow. i dont remember if i formatted it in the camera or took it out of my other camera that had not issues at 14mp, so maybe ill try that too.
