New Cruisers…Eastern Carib in Jan 2016 Port Questions

Hi there
We are Disney veterans but new to cruising. We are a family of 4 (kids ages 9,12) and we're wondering if there's "stuff" to do at the ports without booking special additional adventures. Tortola and St Thomas are the ports (in addition to Castaway Cay). Any input is welcome!

Haven't been to Tortola but in St. Thomas you can walk to the Paradise Point tram station in about 10 minutes and take the skyride up to the top. I think it's only about $15/person. It's something to do at your leisure and doesn't require reservations or anything special. Enjoy your cruise!

As above we haven't been to Tortola, but you can go at your leisure in St Thomas, as for Castaway Cay, you don't need to book anything, we did but could have easily Sat on the beach all day! We did the sting rays and parasailing our kids were 13 & 15 at the time. We have just booked our next cruise and I will be cutting back the port adventures I think and just winging it with a little TripAdvisor research. I recommend participating in the Castaway 5k run or walk, you get a nice medal at the end for completing the course
You can always go back to the Ship and ride the Aqua Duck!

In St. Thomas, it is very easy to grab a cab and go anywhere on the island you want. We used a cab to go to Magen ' s Bay and enjoyed an inexpensive beach day.

Every port has a shopping center as soon as you get off the ship or within walking distance. And taxi companies soliciting your business. I've used the taxis in Gibraltar and either Barbados or Grenada without a problem and had interesting tours of the is
