Congrats to all the winners out there! I saw many of the rides and they were awesome. :goodvibes I just wish VMK would consider some new categories to award our younger players. Most of the big winners that I am aware of are 18+.

I would love to see a spirit award. They do this at cheer competions. :cheer2: Maybe their room wasn't the best, but they stayed in that room morning until night greeting riders with enthusiasm. This could be done by "undercover" staff, of course. ;)

They could give an award for effort. I saw some sweet kids put together rides that were "interesting". They may not be the most beautiful, but you can tell a lot of work and thought went into it. :wizard:

Does anyone else think categories like that are needed?

i think they should have had some more so more red suits would have been released. LOL

Well, ok that works too! LOL

I agree you can tell that some were young kids. Also if there were over 2000 riders then there should be more catagories. They had more prizes for the team awards less rides to just and less credits spent when on a team. I think there should have been at least more categories or more winners. But the rooms they chose were definately very good.

I personally think they should have had a category for "ride most likely to cause brain damage" i would have been a shoe in ROFL

I definetely wish they would come up with a way to award younger players. I'm just not sure how they would do since we're not supposed to know anyones age. On the other hand, there are certainly a LOT of kids that can and do build wonderfully creative rides. One in particular comes to mind from here on the dis boards, I'm shocked he wasn't a runner up at least, but as I said in a previous thread there were SO many, I have no idea how they managed to narrow it down so much. I would be willing to bet that there were many rides they had to eliminate and didn't want to. Too bad they didn't consider doubling the amount of runners up. Maybe next time. :)

I think more categories would be a wonderful idea, it would give more people a chance at winning something super.

However, I noticed that in some (some, not all) winning rooms, there seemed to be less track than decorations. Now don't get me wrong here, people did a wonderful job of decorating and sprucin' it all up :goodvibes , but isn't the whole point of the ride competition the actual track itself? Just something I'll have to keep in mind for when/if they bring out more tracks for a competition :) .

LOL. :thumbsup2

With 26 people waiting to get in for five hours straight.. I'd say that's what supporting VMK is all about. Too bad they can't recognize that.. oh wait.. I got all the pins lol. ;)

Ranch,

Truly a sincere question: Why is it when someone besides you wins you have to put down either them or the judges?

I worked very hard on my ride. I spent every last credit (and some more credits after that!) I would have loved to have won (for the first time ever) and I thought my ride was creative and possibly deserving of an award this time around. But I did not win. And that's life. I can lose and still be very happy for the winners.

CL_SillyQueen's ride was wonderful. She won. Yay for her.

You have won so many times. Cant this be someone else's chance? I am not attacking you. I am honestly and sincerely asking you, "Why is it so difficult for you to be a good loser and be happy for those who win when you don't?"

Truly curious.

I didn't put down any players, nor have I ever in my opinion. True, I don't mind calling out a scammer or copier, but if someone wins that elusive award (whatever it may be) directly from staff, then I can say I'm truly proud of them.

In fact, PinkGirlyGirl and KatieNana are -MasterMind- members. The pride the team has in these two ladies is overwhelming, and if I can't represent the team, I can't think of anyone better to do so than these two Lava Girls!

I was truly hoping the delay in judging was due to multiple judges maybe perhaps looking at screen shots of top contenders, but that would take money, and that's not going to happen. My judge never even came back after his ride. Right then and there I knew my chances were going to be a flop.

I have not won an organized event yet either, so I can relate with you there. And if we're talking credits spent, I spent upwards of 120,000 credits on three rooms. Those little black risers truly mount up, and I owe huge thanks to the -MM- team for throwing me some here and there.. yall rock!

I would have loved for you to win too. With all that we deal with from VMK.. from insane host room lines to dc's to kids who have gone plain bonkers, VMK owes us more. I'm kicking myself for going to WDW tomorrow, but my AP expires Monday, and I need a stupid snowman along with ones promised for my BFF. I'm broke, but hey, it's what VMK wants me to do in order to get that "more".

CL_SillyQueen's ride was wonderful. She won. Yay for her.

Who's she? I don't believe I've met her. And over the Space Race weekend, I tried to make great effort to see as many rides as I could. I cannot tell you the feeling that is had to see over and over, "omg ranch is here"! And even if the ride was a joke (just to get that sweet flag), I still complimented any and all highlights I noticed.

That entire Friday night as people passed through, I read the same comments over. Things like:
"This is going to win."
"This is the best one yet."
"My ride has no chance."
"I will not win now."

I wanted to post everywhere a huge post everywhere possible in how I can assure everyone to not be discouraged, and owning the guest list does not insure a win. Keep them rooms open, throw a ride-a-"than" quest in there if you got to, just don't give up!

But I didn't. Because as history as shown me through past events, I will not win, and I didn't expect to either. So now it's much safer to say such things, because the proof is positive. And it's all fair too. I don't want to lose to somebody because they are well known. I want to lose because someone did better than I, and I knew I would, because I saw that they did.

Thank for not attacking me, it really hurts my feelings when people do. And this is someone elses chance to win, because you and I didn't! In fact, again, it will always be someone elses chance when oraginization is concerned, because anything else is pure favortism. ;)

Now to sleep so I can ride Everest bright and early! :thumbsup2

I'll be posting pics of my space race tomorrow as it will be torn down for supplies. A poll should be fun! :yay:

Applause from here too. popcorn::

I've seen so much whining in the game today about how the contest was "fixed" and staff chose their favorites. I'm so grateful Sparky judged my ride. I don't believe I had ever met him in the game before he judged my ride. He came in, said hello, rode and left. There is no way my ride was chosen because the judge is my friend or for whatever reason people want to make up or believe. I don't know Sparky! I know I created a nice ride that is fun for my friends. I'm flattered to have won a prize for it.

I think more winners based on the size of the competetive field would be a good idea. For this particular competition I feel they should increase the number of winners by at least having an honorable mention ward for at least 20 people for each category. Give them some credits and a prize but not the top 10 pin. If that means they need to increase the other prizes, then they should do that. I strongly feel that many more of the wonderful rides need to be recognized.

If you are planning to create a room or a ride for a future competition, I suggest learning about general art concepts. Some easy ways to learn about these things are on the various food channels (artistic presentation is a major aspect of creating dishes), home makeover shows (listen to what the designers say about their themes, how they choose the items for a room and how they decide to place items in a room), any shows about constructing things like cruise ships or buildings. All of those things apply to building a VMK room or ride.

The Extreme Home Makeover show gives a lot of great information about improving traffic flow through a house and accessibility issues in addition to artistic design. Watch it and then apply those concepts to building your rides.

I would like to offer my help in future competitions and in general. I'm not an expert on room or ride building but will do my best to help anyone create the best room or ride they can within their budget. I saw many creative rides in the competition that could have easily won with a bit of artistic improvement. For example, some rides seemed to be trying to win in the "Best Use of Color" category but came up short. Not because they didn't have a lot of color, but because the color was scattered throughout the room making the room look way too busy. Compare that to PinkGirlygirl's ride which was mostly one color and just two or three pink items were used - I recall Pink Nemo Chairs, Pink Heart Chairs and Pink Slipper Chairs.

Here are some art basices I learned many many years ago. Your creation should have a focal point, something that your eyes are drawn to. It can be a color grouping or an object. For example, in Pink's rooms, you saw pink. Some other rooms had things like a Mickey head or a Christmas tree.

People tend to prefer compositions with an odd number of colors! Pink's first room had mostly pink with some green and cream highlights. That's three main colors. My teacup room was mostly red, white and gold. Again, three colors.

Craftsmanship counts. Messy or disorganized or slapped together generally isn't pleasing to the eye. Arrange things carefully. Each item should have a purpose for being there. Rooms full of rare items scattered around haphazardly don't look anywhere as nice as room swith neatly and creatively arranged and possibly inexpensive buyable items.

Anyway, I'm getting tired. I hope some of what I have written helps people create rooms and rides that win awards. I'm almost always available for helping with creative ideas. I'm also easy to work with because I give my suggestions and opinions but leave it up to you to ultimately create your own room. I'm not offended in the least if you decide you don't want to use my ideas or follow my advice.

I am not going to weigh in on either side of the arguments over the winners ... and want to say I did not compete.

But I too feel that with 2000 entries more prizes are needed so more players can be rewarded for their efforts in creating this wonderful rides.

The rides I did get to ride were all awesome and well deserving.

Congratulations to everyone not just the winners.
