New cell phone iPhone or Droid - help me make a decision

Frank has control issues, but we still like him :)

I'm getting a new phone in June, unless Verizon puts out an iPHone I'll be buying a Droid. I don't buy apps, so I'm not concerned about the buckets full of worthless (to me) apps on the iPhone.

I know I'm a bit strange. I've been known to incorporate particle theory into Facebook statuses.

Right now the HTC Incredible is the best Android phone on the Verizon network IMO.

Just jumped to the top of my list! Does it have a keyboard all full touch only? I really prefer textile keys.

..... from an iPhone to an HTC Droid.

I just left the Verizon Wireless store and I am impressed. The phone won't be in stock until next week. Most likely picking it up Tuesday or Wednesday.

But wait... I'm not yet committed to the HTC Droid. I am taking up Verizon's offer of their 30 day guarantee. I will have both the HTC and iPhone active during the 30 day period. Only after I've compared both phones for the entire 30 days will I make the decision whether to stay with the iPhone or go with the HTC.

I'll start a new thread with updates, comments and observations on how the two phones compare.

Do you have anything specific you want to compare on the two phones? Send them along.

Fantastic - I look forward to hearing the comparisons. I'm going to be getting a new phone soon and I'm not sure which way to go, iphone or droid. TIA

I would like to hear how you like the Turn by Turn navigation on the Droid, especially an Android phone running 2.1. If you are in a city that is part of the beta try the walking directions, they incorporate street view a bit better when you select walking (from the reviews I have heard) and you can use them almost as augmented reality.

Despite what the obvious iFanboys on here say (my my, we've drunk gallons of the iKoolaid, haven't we), it's very important for any person buying a phone to see what features they will actually use, and don't buy all the bells and whistles just to be "cool".

Because we all know that it's your choice of cell phone that decides your "coolness" factor....

:lmao:

Hey LOL I just got the new Droid Incredible... does that make me cool Kevin ;)

I am liking the talk/text... I said "I am gonna kick your butt" and it typed "I am evil" :rotfl: thing sure is smart :lmao::laughing:

Unfortunately, in some cases yes, or at least in some groups (sad to say but true).

I don't disagree that the iPhone is the best solution for some people, it's just the attitude of some that if you're not Apple everything, you're missing the boat. Hype and high price does not equal a better product for all. It's up to the individual to decide what best works for them.

I love it. Gets me out of tight spots quite often!

Example.. Driving 3 hrs to my aunt's house Christmas Eve, just me and the kids (8 & 4). Thirty minutes left in the trip and the 8yo get's car sick all over her shirt and pants (thankfully not the car!).

I just picked up the phone, hit the map icon, then the speaker and said TARGET. It found all the Target's in the general area and once I touched one, gave me the turn by turn directions to get there!

I use it when I'm caught in traffic to figure out ways around it and one of the really cool things is I can look something up in the browser and then if I want directions to go there...just click on the address in the browser, it opens the map and gives me directions!

That works w/ phone numbers too... I just press the phone number and it will activate the phone and call.

In addition to the regular map, you can add layers of satellite (real images), traffic (key for me checking out the commute home), as well as other options.

I have yet to use the Droid for walking directions in the city....I'll have to test that out!

I really love my Droid, can you tell?

Oh, and I thought the turn by turn directions worked fine BEFORE the 2.1 upgrade. But I do like the new voice to text option that came w/ the upgrade...a lot!

Dont associate with people who think you're cool because of the cell phone you choose.

Ok...my After School Special is now completed.;):thumbsup2

Thanks Kevin. I feel all warm and fuzzy now. :sulley: Maybe it's just because it's 80 degrees today and the playoff beard I'm growing! :rotfl2:

I love voice to text on my droid...it makes for some very comical text messages!

I said "I am at the polynesiant getting on the monorail then getting my ears engraved"

it typed: I am at the polynesian getting on the mountain trail then getting my gears and gravy

I said: I am on I4 at exit 67
it typed: I am on the floor at exit 67...if only it had been 69 LOL

My friends really enjoy my speech to text :rotfl::rotfl:

I just started using the voice to text and you are definitely right, I can say one thing and it types something completely different. I always wind up getting a good laugh at what it thought I said. But, I can't complain I love having that on my phone.
