New Cars

Bought a Lexus Hybrid this year, just love it. Can go easily 450 miles on a tank and then it is 12 gallons not 22 like my old jeep cherokee. It was only a couple thousand more than gas. Don't know how it works so well it just does. BTW I live in Tesla country and Lexus is killing them now

Hehe. I regularly get close to 500 miles on a tank in my ICE Camry. Granted, that's 13-14 gallons, but still. lol

I agree there are some ICE cars that get decent mileage. I drove three different Fords over the years that got 45-47 MPG Highway (had a long commute at the time) and I was pleased with that. I have never really thought that my hybrid would go farther than an ICE on a tank of gas, but that the tank is smaller so I go the same distance for less money. Where your Camry is getting 35-38 MPG, my Prius is regularly getting 52-55 MPG (I have gone as high as 67 MPG a few times). I am not impressed with a hybrid that gets under 50 MPG in daily driving. To me, it isn’t worth the extra money to buy a hybrid over an ICE if you aren’t getting stellar mileage out of it. I am not aware of an EV that can go for 500 miles before needing a charge, although I think that will happen eventually. Until it does, they are not for me.

How a person drives also plays into it. You can buy a hybrid or an ICE and get dismal mileage if you drive in a manner that wastes fuel. I regularly exceeded the expected MPG on any car I owned by finding out what was the most fuel efficient method of driving that model and then driving that way daily. It’s easy to get an extra 5 MPG out of a car if you are willing to try (and I don’t get it by annoying other drivers either).

Personally, I just drive. Where you drive has as much an influence on gas mileage as how you drive.

And I regularly get 300 miles on my EV for the equivalent cost of 2 gallons of gas. Not sure that Lexus is killing Tesla or EV in general.

I agree. HOW you drive has a big impact on the fuel economy. If you drive with a lead foot and race from one stop light to the next, your range will clearly be less regardless of what type of car you drive. I do laugh at some commercials for certain vehicles that are supposedly considered 'economy' cars then brag about how fast they go from 0-60.

I just got a BMW X3. I do not have adaptive cruise control and I don't miss it as I've never had it. I am also a DC traffic driver so it would mostly be useless to me.

My must haves were:
Remote start
Apple Car Play
Parking Warnings
Heated seats
Heated steering wheel
Automatic lift gate
Run flat tires
AWD
Panoramic sunroof

Wanted but didn't get:
Heads Up Display
360 Camera
Upgraded sound system
Hybrid (I'm getting about 29MPG which I think is pretty decent.)

The sound system in my car kinda sucks. Could be because I went from a smaller sedan (Acura TLX) to an SUV so I'm not used to the sound in a larger car.

In a few years I'm going to build my own BMW X3 or X5 so I can get exactly what I want. After having driven a BMW, I don't see myself driving anything else. I'm now part of the Bimmer cult.

My sister has that Acura. It does have a great sound system.

I bought a 2025 Honda CR—V Hybrid Touring Sport in July and I absolutely love it. It has all the bells and whistles, Bose 12 speakers, really sharp. Getting a combined 40+ miles to the gallon. I traded my Honda Accord 2013 for it. It a little pricey because it’s in demand, but I got $7K for my car, plus knocked off the dealer mark up and $500 more. Beautiful inside and out. Very comfortable inside seats.

We have a 2021 CRV Touring with 16,300 miles, fully loaded. Hubby is thinking about trading it in next year for a Hybrid, when we finish paying it off. Anyone have a CRV Honda Hybrid?

Curious as to why the sunroof was a must have? I have never had a car with a sunroof/moonroof. For me this was something on the dealer available cars that I don't want to pay extra for. So curious the benefit of having this?

It makes the car feel bigger and open. And is great for those perfect weather days when you can open it and get some fresh air but not be all blown around from the windows.

I just bought a 2024 Sport L, 1 step down from the touring. I love it to pieces! First brand new car at almost 50 yrs old and had driven mini vans for the previous 23 yrs. I got it in July and am averaging 41 mpg. I commute 27 miles to work 3x/wk on the interstate into a city. Read: Lots of traffic! We live in a suburban area, so all other driving is mostly in town. The only thing that I will complain a little about is the black interior. It shows all the dirt/dust/hair! I'm vacuuming every week at least and we're never anywhere near actual dirt. lol There were no other options for interiors (seems like a lot of manufacturers are leaning towards the black interiors), which I didn't love, but knew I wanted another Honda. My odyssey was 15yrs old, 250K, white, tan leather interior and so cushy! I loved that thing, but I love this crv almost as much. I'm definitely loving the fewer fill-ups!

I like my moonroof on rainy days, as it keeps the car from being so dark inside. I use it a lot in the summertime for that reason. I know a lot of people here like sunroofs to vent the hot air out of their cars in the summer, but I personally prefer the moonroof.

What exactly is the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof? They seem like the same thing to me.

Why is that something you wanted? I have driven a few cars with that feature and it seemed like a solution in search of a problem. I don't see it serves any purpose and just a distraction when it constantly projected seldom needed information on the windshield in front of you.

I also thought sunroof/moonroof were just different marketing terms for the same thing. Any sort of glass panel in the roof serves the same purpose no matter what they call it.

There are also panoramic roofs as well.

My car has a panoramic roof and I love it. It makes the inside seem so much bigger even though it is only adding a couple inches of head room. The glass coatings are so good now that there has been no issue having an entire roof of glass even in the 100 degree days of summer. The inside of my car is cooler than any other car I have owned with a traditional metal roof.
