New Carry-on restrictions -- effect on DME???

Well, we leave tomorrow and DH is not a fan of having our luggage out of his sight longer than necessary, so talking him into DME was a challenge, but he was o.k. due to having the essentials in a carry-on...SOOOOOOO...while we have never used DME before and have no idea how dificult it will be to retrieve a singe bag and then load it onto the bus, we are thinking of doing that. Wedo not wish to hold anyone up, but do need our contacts and as of tonoght, we are not allowed to bring them ( disposables are packed in a liquid) or solution, our flight would normally land around 5:30 om, but whol knows if delayed and how long...will MCO have shops open? Will POP be open and will they have any solution left?
Guess we are best off getting that one bag from the belt.

Just be sure you don't put a DME tag on that bag and it will be the only one of yours that shows up on the belt. Putting one small bag under the bus won't slow the other passengers up too much so I wouldn't worry about that.

I really enjoyed my stay at Pop in May but I don't remember if the food court opened at 6:30 or 7:00. The gift shop was attached to the food court but I'm not sure if they opened at the same time.

Have a great trip!!!!

Perhaps you could check one bag that has your 24 hour supplies without your ME tag and that way the one bag will make it through to baggage claim. Then you are good to go and then ME can deliver teh rest of your stuff (with the tags). Remember, tagged ME bags dont make the carousel - they get grabbed before.
Good luck!

This is exactly what we are going to do. We were going to check two bags with DME tags and have a carry-on with a day's clothing and toiletries. Now with news footage from our airport of people being made to throw away toothpaste, shaving gel, hair gel, hair spray, etc. We are going to check and then pick up that carry on bag. Think - if people aren't allowed to carry "liquids" on board the plane then "No" to :diaper rash ointment, sunscreen, etc. We arrive in MCO around 9:00 am. We are going to need those things before our DME luggage arrives. We don't mind though. Just an inconvenience that we are willing to accept to remain safe. Keep up the good work TSA! :thumbsup2

I know its not convienent but I am glad they are taking precautions. After hearing about how small amount of chemical they needed, and it being disguised as something we use EVERYDAY, it made my nerves wacky! That being said we have 4 small children, one on formula, and one on liquid meds.

Why dont you have that grocery delivery service send things to your hotel for 10.00? Its cheaper than a car, or taxi, and you know it will get there...Plus you could get a case of water, and snacks with all the other supplies you might need??

I can't relax until I am unpacked and settled in so I am doing exactly what I did last year when using DME, I am going to take the time to get my luggage and then bring it to the bus with me. It's as simple as that so I don't think it is a problem for you to take your luggage to the plane. I totally understand everyone being a lil nervous with the new flight restrictions but I think it will be ok and I don't think you are a heretic either :goodvibes

We leave on Sunday and we're just trying to figure out when its best time to get to airport. I think we'll be ok if we're there 2 hrs ahead. flying out of BWI have 6:30am flight on Air-Tran. All of this has me a little worried - I will have precious cargo with me- my daughter! But I guess it's the price we have to pay to be safe. Hope everyone fares out well. We'll just put our toiletries in our checked luggage.

We are leaving on 8/31 and had already intended on picking up our own luggage and having it with us on the bus. I dont think that there are too many people who do this and even if now a few more are doing it than usual I dont think it will be too much of a problem.

Please post how this works for you, if the DME bus is crowded with luggage. Otherwise, I'm strongly considering doing this (probably will) in September.

If its a small bag you don't even need to put it under the bus it will fit under you seat or in the overhead bins.

OP here.

It seems my wife loves the perks of DME even more than I do. When I told her about the idea of packing a carry-on sized bag with toiletries, checking it WITHOUT the DME tag and picking only that bag up at baggage claim, she had a better suggestion.

She wants us to ship a small amount of toiletries to our resort. That way, we still can skip baggage claim as usual. I added that I'll ship it so that it arrives one day before we arrive -- that way, I can call the resort and confirm that the box arrived, so we can go in confidence.

Also, she has hard contact lenses that, it turns out, she can soak in regular water for short periods of time. She HATES wearing her lenses on airplanes due to the very dry air. Her plan is to initially wear them onto the plane, and have her completely empty and dry contact lenses case in our carry-on, along with her glasses. Once we board the plane, she'll go into the bathroom, get a little bit of water from the sink for her lenses case, take out her lenses, and put on her glasses. PROBLEM SOLVED.

I knew there was a reason I married her ....

eric, i love the sentiment... your wife is a lucky lady...

may i add to your wife's wisdom? rather than put her hard lenses in that icky airplane tap water, wait 'til beverage service and use a few drops of the bottled stuff!

I'll echo the previous poster, the water in the airplane lavatories isn't safe to drink, I wouldn't use it for hard contact lens storage. A small amount of solution in a contact lens case is currently allowed.

I'M NOT SURE ABOUT DISNEY but most hotels will furnish complimentary items if a guest forgets to pack something. Items like toothbrush, toothpaste, razer and shaving cream. A representative for InterContinental Hotels (Crown Plaza, Holiday Inn etc) was quoted in today's NY Times. He said they encouraging their properties to add contact lens solution and sun tan lotion to that list of items.

Just one...? Hmm, seems like more than two members of the CleveRocks family will be getting postcards from Mickey... ;)

What about electronic equipment? I know it isn't banned now, but I hope it isn't banned in the future. I am a photo nut and I have an expensive digital SLR that I couldn't possibly feel safe about having it checked. I hope the TSA thinks long and hard about banning electronics the way they have in Britain. I think that would be over kill.

We're actually discussing that in the Photography forum right now. I'm not sure how our UK friends are coping with it.
