Just wanted to stop in and say 'hi'. I have been lurking for a while now but now we are seriously thinking of taking our 1st ever trip to WDW, so I thought I should register and get some great input from you all.

We are hoping to go in Sept after school re-opens in the hope that the line ups will be shorter. We are looking at either flying out of Buffalo or going via Sunwing for about 200 bucks more.

I am excited and so is my 5 year old DD.

Welcome to the disboards. You can also go late Aug as most US schools are back then.

Welcome! DIS boards is better than any guide book. Feel free to ask any questions you have.

No kidding! I have learnt so much these last few days from this board. Now if only you can convince me that I don't have to book my airline tickets well in advance and that I can wait for a DING....

Welcome to DIS! Yes, the info on these boards has been invaluable...

We are going in October for a week. I booked our BUF to MCO flight about 2 months ago, for $109 per person all in using Jetblue. Then on Friday I saw $93 (+ $6 to choose the seat) all in from Airtran on our return flight, so I grabbed that too. So we spent $208 per person round trip which I thought was not bad considering the rising cost of gas... At least now I'm not checking for cheap flights every single night and now I can (start to) rest easy knowing we can afford our plane fares...

Have a great trip in September!

So you buy 2 one way tickets then? Is that the way to go?

I spoke to SW y/day and feel comfortable booking through them as even if you find a cheaper seat you can book at the cheaper rate apparently. Only thing is she said she will give us a credit, but not sure when we will use it again. The only other thing holding me back from booking SW is that Sunwing is just about 200 bucks more from YYZ.

I've heard that you'd pay quite a bit more in taxes in Canada compared to flying out of the US, so make sure you factor that in. If you're going in September after school starts, I wouldn't think travel would be particularly busy at that time, so I'd personally probably wait for a Ding or other "late" promotional fares. I don't see any benefit in buying one-way tickets instead of round-trip.

If we flew down again I would pick YYZ as with your numbers it's only 200 dollars more. For the convenance that's the way I would go, But then again I would rather drive as you can bring back a crap load of souviners. We tend to spoil our kids and ourselves when we go to disney in a big way.

Problem is, I've never flown Sunwing before (actually never flown anything but Air Can and Canadian Airllines, remember them, LOL) and I'm fine with it as long as they actually take off w/o cancellations etc. Another problem is the $50 deal ends early May and though I am pretty flexible being on mat leave, I would still like to go when it is less crowded. Methinks I'll just book the resort first and then wait for a good deal on a flight. Worst case, it would be about $1500 out of YYZ, I think. **decisions, decisions**

I think that you are only going to see the costs of flights going up, both in Canada and the US. I think many airlines will increase their fuel surchage with the rising cost of oil. I wouldn't wait too long to book a flight if I were you.

My wife and I just flew sunwing to Dominican Republic. Man I enjoyed the flight. They were great. We paid the extra for the extra leg room seats. It was well worth the money. I would not hesatate to fly sunwing again. Keep in mind your only allowed 20 kilos of luggage per person. Thants not very much for a trip to Disney. $10 per extra kilo. Ouch. Thats with all airlines though.

If you're looking at going this September, there's currently a special on where you can get a free dining package when you book tickets and room through Disney (ie. stay onsite). You may want to check out the Disney website or either the Dining Plan (inside Restaurants) or Codes and Rates (inside Resorts) sub-forums here at the DIS to get some more details to see if the special would be a good deal for you.
