New Camera Question

G'day all,

I bought a Canon S2-IS today from Brandsmart at a pretty decent price ($319), and the camera they gave me was a floor sample camera. I didn't really give it that much thought at the time, due to the price, but I've been having second thoughts after bringing it home. I looked at the little bitty memory card that the camera came with and it had several photos of someone's house/cat/some bugger playing golf on it, so obviously the camera is a return.

In that case, should I return the camera? I am fairly sure that they don't have any brand new cameras otherwise they would not have given me the floor sample, but I still have some slight misgivings about it even though there is every chance the camera is fine. I wonder also if I have grounds to ask for a further discount because of what I have discovered, although the receipt does state that the camera might be a return or a refurbed camera.

Any suggestions or advice for a dopey camera buyer?

Well, the S3 IS has been out for a couple of months now, and brand new you can get it for $399 or less (I got mine from Amazon.com for $345 about a month ago). Personally, I try never to take the floor model since you never know how it's been used/misused. And like you said, since the memory card has pix of somebody's house/pet, etc., it sound more like a return rather than a floor model. I'd at least want to know WHY the camera was returned; were they just unhappy with it or was there something wrong with it. Unfortunately with big stores, you probably won't be able to find out.

I just checked dealsofamerica.com and they have the S3 from Dell listed for $319, definitely take it back because you can get it cheaper elsewhere or an S3 at the same price...and brand new, not a floor model!!

I got my S3 just 3 wks ago from Circuit City. Bought at their online site for cheaper price than their store, but picked it up at the store to save on shipping. $359

I think $319 for a used S2 is alot. Return it & get the S3.

Well, I did return it and got the S3 - you guys must have known! I paid a little more than some of you did, though - due to my unhappy knack for procrastination I didn't have time to wait for it to ship from somewhere. I got it from Target for $399, which isn't the best price but not the worst either - cheaper than some other stores seem to be selling it for. We needed it for the weekend and unfortunately I left it until the last minute. I'm glad I returned the S2, though - seemed like a nice camera but I just wasn't certain about it.

Thanks for the responses. :thumbsup2
