So I finally broke down and bought a Canon S2 IS because I just could NOT decide between 4 or 5 different ones and the Canon was on sale last week at Circuit City for $339 (it's back up to $399 today). Anyway, the camera is a bit bulkier and heavier than I was hoping for, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for the quality of the photos I'm hoping for. Also, my lens cap will NOT stay on. I would normally take it back but since I've read this complaint from other owners, I guess it will do me no good. So now I have to come up with some type of contraption to keep the lens cap on. I'm worried that the lens will get scratched or damaged if the cap keeps falling off. So far, the pictures are looking good, but I haven't got too deep into the functions/being creative yet. I know everyone here seems to use Photoshop Elements 4, but I can't afford $89 for the download right now ('specially with Disney coming up in 48 days.........yippppeeee). I have "Picture It! Premium 10" that came with the purchase of Microsoft Suites when I bought my Dell computer. Has anyone used that? Will it get me started and do an "ok" job for now? I've never used a photo editing program before. What I take is what I get. But I want to start doing all the fun stuff you all can do!!! Any thoughts/comments/advice would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch. Oh, I also have Microsoft Plus!Digital Media Edition.......is that worth anything???? :confused3

some of us here prefer Corel Paint Shop PRo X,

you can download a 30 day free trial from the corel website

another option is GIMP which is free..and allows you to do a lot with your pictures....

another program I have and use sometimes when I want to play with something other then PAint Shop Pro is Photo Explosion.

I saw it at walmart Saturday for $20, or you can get it direct from Nova for 29...LOL

it's a nice program that allows a lot of correcting, and red eye removal, but not advanced as

photo shop
paint shop pro
or
GIMP

My preference is Nero PhotoSnap: www.nero.com. I found it a lot easier to use that Paint Shop Pro. With Paint Shop Pro, I found myself hitting the wrong keystrokes too often, and overwriting my original image files.

I've never tried using the keystrokes, I use the drop down menus...my memorey isn't good enough to remember all the combinations...LOL

Evidently, neither is mine! :rotfl:

Seriously, I found Nero simpler to use overall. I highly recommend it! :)

Good wishes with the new camera. I am sure you will enjoy it.

The Picture It program from MS is fine, it will do a lot. As for the lens cap, I can't stand it, but that is the way it is. And no threaded lens barrel to use a skylight of UV filter for protection either. One of the biggest negatives I find with the camera. Other than that, pretty darn good.

It's not by chance Nero PhotoSHOW is it? I can't find Photosnap anywhere on that website link. Or maybe Photosnap is an old version and they now have Photoshow? I'm confused. :confused3 The Photoshow 4 is only $39.99 and it says "now has DVD burning". Does that mean I can burn my photshow to a DVD after I've created it? Couldn't I do that anyway with any program as long as I have a DVD burner on my computer?

a tip for keeping the lens cap on is to take the little cord that it hangs from and lay it across the lens and then place the cap on - be sure that the little metal clip is on the outside and it won't scratch the lens - sounds weird but it works - i have and love this camera, but that does drive me crazy when it falls off - one item to note, be sure you take it off before you kick it on to shoot, otherwise the lens makes a funny in/out motion and noise ( NOT what it's suppose to do!!! :rolleyes1 )
