New buyer, without a tour?

Has anyone made a first time purchanse without going on the tour and seeing the resort offerings first hand? I was going to wait until Sept, but I really want to take advantage of the incentives going right now for BLT.

I have not taken the tour yet but knew that I only wanted to own at BLT. We have been visiting WDW since 1994 and never became members before now because we loved the Contemporary and didn't want to stay elsewhere.

So, since I knew I wanted the resort, regardless, I wasn't concerned about seeing the models in person (seeing them on the website was enough for me).

I know there are many members on the boards who have bought sight, unseen. But I am very happy and excited about my purchase.

I do know that the studios at BLT are a bit smaller than studios at the other resorts and that the bathroom sink is in the kitchenette (that some members don't like). So, if you are concerned about this at all, you may want to wait.

However, I think the incentives, especially the price per point discounts are very good right now. If you were thinking of September, it is only a few months away. If it were me, and I knew I wanted BLT, then I would go for it!!

And, if you have a Disney Visa, you can get 6 months, 0% interest on the charges that you put on the card. I was told that it would be for the down payment or up to $2500, but I am actually getting it on the full amount I charged.

Well..... we just made an offer on a resale AKV contract without actually seeing the model rooms. We have stayed at AKL and LOVE it. I'm so excited about our purchase! Here's hoping we clear ROFR.

Are you planning on going to the resorts or possibly purchasing at one of these resorts?

AKV, BLT & SSR are the only resorts being sold at this time to new DVC members directly through Disney.

You can purchase any resort through a resale there are even BLT resales already.

If you are anywhere near Chicago they have BLT models at their sale center at Woodfield Mall.

Many people buy without the tour. Some buy and have no idea what they have bought. Others learn as they go, and some do their homework and save money. Some BLT owners are still trying to figure out what will be included at BLT.

I for one would never buy a new resort without actually seeing it first. It's like buying a car sight unseen. Things may work out and you can be very happy, or maybe, no matter what you do, you just can't get comfortable in the seat.

LOL - there are so many details about BLT that DVC is playing close to the chest - - I'll be glad when August comes so we'll start hearing details from one of the only authorities I really trust: my fellow DISers.

Never toured and never visited any DVC's. Just did my homework and I am positive we made the right choice in our purchase. Can't wait to go to preview center in a couple weeks!!

In 1997 I bought a Jeep because it was cheap and I wanted to tow it behind our motor home. I still hate that car and I only use it once a year.

I read on another thread that all incentives for BLT will cease on June 15th. I asked my guide about this over the weekend and he confirmed this information. However, that being said, DVC is constantly changing their minds on things, so I wouldn't bank on it. That being said, if you're sure you want BLT, I would buy now and get the incentives, plus BLT ROCKS!!

I would add that my Guide told me when we toured in early March that all of the incentives were going away on March 15th and he recommended that we lock ourselves in during our tour, which we ended up doing based on his recommendation. However, as we all know, the incentives got significantly better on April 1st (thankfully our contract had not closed and we were able to make the change to the better incentives).

Still, the fact that all of the Guides appear to be making this statement, and the fact that BLT does ROCK and appears to be selling well despite the economy, leads me to believe that this rumor might have some validity to it. I'm very curious to see what develops...

Never been to WDW, but plan to ASAP (I have family in FL on top of wanting to go to WDW).

I had a tour of Grand Cal.

Hubby has had no tours, but we did have a 2 hour presentation in '07 (lovely opportunity to have DS in their kidcare and we got a $50 giftcard as well!).

Bought BLT. Like Grand Cal, but don't need that for our DLR trips enough to take those points "away" from people who really really really do want to stay there.

I bought in 07 and never saw SSR. Disney in my opinion is the only timeshare people buy sight unseen. We are buying because we know Disney. They produce a great product.
I have seem the BLT model rooms when I stayed at SSR. Take it from me they are beautiful. The location to the parks is probably the best feature. If I could buy now it would be BLT.

We just bought BLT last week, but couldn't book there for the amount of time we wanted in Dec (8 days), so we booked SSR. If you buy at BLT and want to book a very short period after that (ie, six months or less), you may find that bookings are tight, taken by owners at the other locations.
The BLT rooms at the SSR are quite nice, though. Good luck.

Did you try and waitlist yourself for BLT?? I only ask because, as people buy into BLT, DVC continues to release more and more available rooms for reservation purposes. If you really want to stay at BLT, you should consider a waitlist... If not, SSR is beautiful and you'll have a great time there too.
