I have reviewed for Mouse Extra a wonderful new guide book, Walt Disney World with Disabilities. The authors do a wonderful job on the subject.

Sounds like a great book. I think I will check BAM this weekend and see if they have a copy. Are there, by any chance, pictures of the HA rooms or even layouts of those rooms? That would make it even better, especially to suit my needs.

I would check out the authors' website

I was a peer reviewer for the new Passporter:Open Mouse guide for guests with special needs. It covers every special need and does have photos and layouts and I would consider it an excellent resource also. Check the thread on this board regarding accessible room layouts/photos- a few people who are more technically saavy than I am have posted photos of roll in showers and accessible rooms. I have added measurements only as each resort tends to have a different layout and I've not always been able to get specific answers from DRC.---Kathy

I have the first one from last year and I don't think it had the room layouts in it. so glad to hear that the new one does, I will have to check it out also. If it is as good as the first one, then it is great.

I have the book the OP mentioned and it is really great. It has a lot more hands-on experience about each attraction in it than the "PassPorter: Open Mouse" (which I also have, as well as the first ed. of it under the former name) - it is more descriptive in paragraph form and all. I also recommend the "PassPorter: Open Mouse" book for the additional info. it has as well as the quick reference ability (i.e. read the WDW book at home and note certain things, take the PP book into the parks to quickly reference things.

I do recommend the general Passporter book. I have never seen the Open Mouse book, but if its like its sister book, then it should be pretty good.

I purchased the new Passprter Open Mouse this weekedn, cause BAM didn't have the other book in stock and said that they couldn't get it a the store. I am going to check out Barnes and Noble this weekend. I really prefer to look at a book before I purchase it, well except my regular Passporter.

I'm sure you can get the book off their website

I just wanted to add that I got this book when it first came out, and it was really excellent. I also prefer to look over books before I buy them, and I almost never buy a book on-line before checking it out in the store first. I took a chance on this because it looked like it had really good ride descriptions. It was a great decision. It made a huge difference to me on my trip. I got a lot more out of it than I even expected. No question - it was really worth it.

The website does provide a lot of info to help you decide if the book is for you. The table of contents and samples of the book are there for you to see.

I am still reading the book and find it very informative. They were not strong enough about Bug's Life having stingers that poke people in the back. For a person with a bad back like mine THAT HURT BIG TIME and could cause damage.

If I was doing the book then I would say whether or not there were moveable seats. Fat people as well as people who do not bend well need to know which restaurants have seats or tables that can be moved. I used to have to move the table at one restaurant so mom could get out of the booth.

There is no mention of the lift for that one pool and spa. Sorry I am tyring to do this while ill from my cooking.

Overall it is a great book but I seem to find this site a lot more informative, lol. Sorry but this is the best information as is a couple other sites. I would recommend it to a person going to parks.

Forgot to say that they do not use slicky paper so notes will not bleed all over the place like in a magazine and the print was easy for me to read. I liked the feel of the paper and it was not too heavy unilike some guides I have had.

Hi Mechurchlady,

I just wanted to say that this is the first book or web reference I've ever seen about the bugs life back poking thing in any detail. They do mention that it really hurt the author's wife, and they tell readers how to avoid it, which I think is pretty cool. Especially with my back problems.

Disney is massive and it's got to be impossible to be all things for all people, but I think they did do a great job of covering the majority of what's going to affect people.

I agree that this site is fantastic, but I think that this book covers the experience of the rides in vivid detail, which is great for people with like me. I haven't seen that much detail anywhere else. I also learned a lot of practical things I never knew before.

Can anyone tell me if there are drawings of the room layouts in this book. There are in Open Mouse, but they are of standard rooms. Seeing them would make choosing a resort so much easier. I have stayed in a HA room at WL with a King bed and roll-in shower, but I haven't stayed in any yet that can accommodate 3 adults. We are booked at CR and AKL next week and I would really like to know how they are going to handle this. We will also be at ASMusic Family Suites twice next year and I have also requested a HA with roll-in shower for mom. It would be nice to know that this is the right place for us.

I have posted online several times about Bugs Life. I was in an ECV the first time and sat in a regular seat the DCA site. IT HURT and scared me. I made my comments based on how to improve it and did say it was a useful guide. I really like it and have little time for reading but am reading it throroughly which is rare for me lately. Again it is very informative.

There are no maps or room charts in the book.

Thank you, then I may not buy it. I wanted to look at it first before I bought it, but none of the bookstores in town will get it, somthing about no relationship with the publisher.

My husband just bought the book. It was very helpful, it had a review of restaraunts and rides ,attractions in each park, transportation, almost anything you have a question about.

I think some books don't mention to back poking deliberately

I have purchased this book and read it completely.

As a moderator here, as a person with a few disabilities of my own, as a Disney enthusiast, and as a Cast Member I have found an overly large number of inaccuracies.

Yes, it has a lot of personal opinions in it, which really is not good for this type of guidebook.

It is seriously incomplete, including that it does not say anything about any of the minor parks or Downtown Disney. It does not go into any real detail about the Resorts or the restaurants at the resorts.

And I have noticed a few suggestions which run counter to official Disney policies.

I have been to the author's web site and find it basically a rehash of (or even just quotes from) the book's content, and it seems the major intent of the site is to sell the book.

Accordingly, I have removed the link to the book, and also some links to the author's website.
