new blog: Sunglass Hut Opening in Magic Kingdom's Adventureland

Using logic/reason/common sense here on the DIS? Now that's just not fair! ;)

I believe in different strokes for different folks, but for the naysayers - THIS is what is going to ruin MK for you?!? Something you'll pass by in 20s during your day in the park, since you'll obviously never go in? I'll check it out in March. If I like it - great. If not, I'll be moving on - most likely to get a Dole Whip nearby.:worship:

:thumbsup2

The minor things people fixate on never fail to amuse me.

I don't think it will "ruin" MK for me, but just sayin' that I hate to see this type of thing happening. I can go to the mall to see Sunglass Hut.

Honestly, I feel like the store has been similar to a generic mall store for a while now. Back in 2005, I got a Hawaiian-print dress there by Shannon Marie. That wasn't something I could get here at home. At least, I've never seen that brand here and I've never seen the style, either. Lately, though, it's been regular old Roxy, Reef, and other similar brands that aren't that hard to find. Now, I'd certainly prefer it to go back to what it used to be and I would also prefer more of a selection than just sunglasses, but I don't see a Sunglass Hut as being all that different brand-wise and style-wise than what it was 6 months ago.

Now, if they change the store outside Splash Mountain into a Gander Mountain or a Bass Pro Shop, well, then we can talk about things getting out of hand.;)

Can't Disney and the Imagineers be more creative than this? I hate to see these type of changes, I really do.

Definitely to each his own, but I can't agree. I grew up going to Disneyland multiple times a year in the 1970/80/90's and along with rides and family time etc ... some of my strongest "connections" from those trips are to Carnation, C&H Sugar, Dole and Coke. I remember the signs and slogans all over the park. To this day, one of my favorite things in the world to is to drink an ice cold Coke ANYWHERE in the Disney Universe. My kid was over the moon when I showed up on a hot day in August outside the Seas/Nemo ride with Starbucks Frapuccinos that we drank sitting on the concrete in the only shady spot we could find. She made up a song about the Frapuccinos and 6 months later her whole class sings the song along with her when they hang out and whenever we see Starbucks she laughs and tells the story. She's know for it. It was pretty magic to me.

At the rate this is going Tomorrowland will have an Apple store by 2017.

I think there needs to be a clarification. For me, I can handle a company sponsoring a land, or an area, or a store, or an attraction. But what I don't like to see, is a typical mall store with signage coming in.

Again, I'll still plan a trip to MK, but I hope this is not a trend.

It looks like a very boring store.

I would have no problem with it if it was themed well but it looks like they removed every loose item, left just the walls standing and then moved in all the sunglasses.

Oh. I have to say that I'm not a fan of how the store looks, honestly. Oh well. Ironically enough, this was the ad on the page when I viewed it:

I'd like to see stuff like that for sale in Adventureland, personally.

I'm very disappointed with how the store looks. I was giving it the benefit of the doubt until I saw it. I was hoping that it would be heavily themed and hopefully would have some Disney merchandise sprinkled here and there with the sunglasses. It is neither. DH has forgotten his sunglasses on our WDW trips here and there, and once he broke his pair during the trip. We have always said that WDW needed to sell some decent sunglasses somewhere, so I could be okay with Sunglass Hut sponsoring a Disney Store and having its products spread throughout a store that also had some Disney stuff. That is not what we got. This flat out looks like a mall store. I hope this is not a trend of turning the interior of the parks into a partial standard shopping mall.

It does look bad. Blech.

It's easy to make fun of freaking out over one store, but the question is where does it stop?

Wow. That is the most lackluster looking store. It looks like the mall around the corner. Just pathetic.

I hope this isn't a direction that disney is going in. I really don't want the parks to look like an outdoor mall. EPCOT is bad enough since the world showcase is just food and stores. I hope all the parks don't start going there.
I completely agree. I hope this isn't the direction they are going. The Fast Pass + is bad enough with being able to plan every single minute of your vacation months in advance. Part of the fun was the spontaneity.

And there it is (aside from Laketravis' tongue in cheek comment) - FP+ comment thrown in the conversation.

Out of curiosity, how does FP+ have anything to do with a Sunglass Hut store in MK? How does THAT take away from spontaneity in the park? :confused3

Wait until there is a Dunkin Donuts on every corner of Main Street USA. Then we New Englanders will think we haven't left home. :)

I agree with the blog completely. The store is boring. Why couldn't they have just given Sungass Hut a kiosk within the store. I'm ok with Sunglass Hut selling their products in the Magic Kingdom even a kiosk within a store, but I don't really care for them having their own store at the MK. DTD is fine, but not the MK. Next thing you know, there will be a Pandora and Dooney & Burke stores on Mainstreet. I have no problem with purchasing these products in the MK. They are there, I just don't think the MK should look like my local mall.

I was hoping the pictures would look better on my PC instead of my phone.

They don't. :(
