I have read alot about the OKW remodel, and was wondering about the hard beds. Are they finally being replaced? This is the sole reason we are hesitant to return there. I have not been about to find a definative answer on this.

One can only hope they are replacing those beds. Honestly, I have never tried to sleep on anything as hard in my life!

I hope so. The beds are the only thing I have a problem with at OKW. I just returned from a college visit roadtrip with my son and stayed at a Holiday Inn, Best Western and a Courtyard by Marriott that were all much more comfortble bed wise over OKW.

I always ask for an eggcrate mattress pad. I asked a CM in May if they were putting in new mattresses and she said "yes".

at OKW at least a dozen times and have never had an issue with the beds....maybe we are so tired from running the parks all day that we don't notice...

I have to agree, we stayed for the first time this past March and I have a bad back so sleeping is a real issue for me. I was very pleasently surprised how much I enjoyed sleeping on those beds...much better that the ones at CBR!

The old beds were a latex bed, I think by Simmons. A fairly high end/ quality product and brand at the time OKW opened. But they were not a pillowtop (like the newer queens in the studio/2nd bedroom, and probably only comfortable for some back sleepers.

They must be changing the bedding. We were there in January doing a split stay between OKW and BLT. The matress at OKW was exactly like the one we had at BLT. We were really worried about the matress since this was our first stay at OKW but it was a non issue.:goodvibes

The bed we had in May/June was a pillowtop and we were not in a renovated room. It was identical to the bed we had two years ago when we stayed at OKW. And it was very comfortable.

Stayed in building 46 in June and I swear I was sleeping on a concrete slab. Absolutely awful! Called for a eggcrate topper, and that helped a lot. We went on a tour of one of the renovated rooms and one of the first things I did was check the MBR mattress--actually laid down on it. It seemed better--but since the CM was watching me like a hawk, I couldn't really pull off the sheets to check if it was new. LOL!! :-)

I also hope there are new mattresses at OKW. It is our home resort and that is one of the reasons we have stopped staying there. We do love the resort and will be back next June. We did try out AKV at Jambo - VWL, and now BWV so I guess some good things come out of hard mattresses.:thumbsup2Last time at OKW I think I had 2 or 3 egg crates on our mattress in the master bedroom and then it was finally ok. I don't like going through all that trouble.

Count me in as wishing for new mattresses, too. We had 2 different studios last year- the first, the bed was fine, comfy, but we had VERY noisy neighbors in the attached 1 bdrm, so we switched the next day. For the next 3 nights we barely slept, we had the rock mattress. :sad2: I forgot all about the egg crates. I think we are just used to a pillow top mattress, or even a mattress with SOME form of extra padding, because most places have this now. So to go back to a plain, hard mattress is just a little too roughing it! :rotfl: Really loved OKW, though, and hope to stay there again with my family, maybe even on my next DISmoms trip- in some new beds, of course!

Just found the best bed I've ever slept in. We are at a resort called Church Landing in Meredith, NH. Checking out today and I have to ask about the maker of this bed.

The mattresses at OKW were terrible. Calling them a concrete slab is being nice.
