New bathroom floors

So the folks who lived in our house before us put wall-to-wall carpeting in the 2 bathrooms upstairs. We are replacing the carpeting in the bathrooms with tile. We looked at Expo Design, just to see what our options are. There are too many options! If you've recently put in new bathroom flooring, what did you use? We want a non-slick, not-too-rough flooring that will look nice. The color will probably be in the oatmeal colors - just like the carpet in the bedrooms. Any ideas?

I've got ceramic in 3 bathrooms and hardwood in the other. I prefer the ceramic over anything else. It cleans easily, and I don't freak out over the toilet overflowing like I did with the hardwood. There are some great ceramic tiles out now that have an "unglazed" look so they're not slippery, yet they are sealed so that they clean easily. Try to avoid the marble looking tiles though. We have that in our master bath and it is SLIPPERY! I would also avoid white grout if possible. It is very difficult to keep clean. Try to either match the oatmeal color on the tiles or get a really neutral light tan.

I agree with you about Expo. There is so much to choose from that it's overwhelming. I've actually seen some beautiful tile at Home Depot and Lowe's, and the selection isn't nearly as immense. Good luck!

I have ceremic tiles that I hate and will be getting rid of soon. I'm going to go with the old boring no wax flooring. 1 piece, no grout, no sealing. Luckily my bathroom is very small so we didn't spend alot on the tiles...I wish I had never put them in.

Two words -- dark grout. I have white grout (with white tile) on my bathroom floors and it's hard to keep them looking bright. I have to get down with bleach and a toothbrush every now and then (not too often, LOL!) and scrub.

We got the peel and stick from Home Depot called Traffic Master...its great and strong enough for industrial use. In our kitchen we have a brown marbled look and for our bathroom we will use the grey/blue..its very pretty. I think it was $30 for 30 sq feet, plus sub floor.

We put ceramic in the upstairs bath. It is a multi colored tile, used grey grout. I agree that the most important thing is not the tile but to avoid white grout. I had it in my old house and it was so hard to keep it from looking grey. I figured starting with grey was easier :)

Ceramic, absolutely love it. Definitely go with a darker grout. We have not had any problems with ours, and it's so easy to keep clean.
