New APs? Will this affect DVC passes?

How much profit does one company need?

:earsboy: Bill
It's not entirely about profit. Disney profits by this.... But at the same time it will help crowd control. The busiest times of the year are Easter and Christmas. While it sucks that they are screwing and pissing off their most loyal fan base.... You have said it best in the past. They already have us.... They don't need to keep us happy. They know we will be visiting year round.... So they keep those willing to pay the premium prices at the premium crowd times happy.... And it will help them control peak crowds by blocking out those two busy times. That I believe is the biggest factor here. Attendance is way up and they are looking at solutions to keep crowds up and not drive people away.

This doesn't impact us too much as we avoid those crowded times like the plague... But will cost me $80 more when we upgrade to the AP this December. I just hope they remember their most loyal crew if times get tough for them like after 9/11 when DVC ers kept them afloat.

my guess this is mainly an attack at local Florida people who drive in a tip the Christmas crowds to a tipping point......not so much as a hit on DVC bc we normally stay in a hotel

We were all hoping for an DVC annual pass promotion, but what did we get? Blackout dates. Thanks Disney and DVC for treating your most loyal customers like dirt. I was planning a surprise trip for my DW's Birthday in December but forget it now. I guess Disney will be getting their money from some other sucker instead of me. They can keep their photo pass crap too. I have a camera, everyone has a camera.

I'd likely call to make sure just because I'm that paranoid, but you should be fine.

Ya that's me too. I have one more ticket to buy which will be at the new rate so I will ask then. I think we will be rethinking our trips now, we are just not made of money that is a bit of a savings to go ahead and deal with the blockout dates. My DD is a teacher and likes to join us at the end of our Dec. trip but we may just make our big trip in the summer now. Take my DS with with special needs who lives for Christmas in DEC., we will just move it up and for a shorter trip.

Just go off the phone with rep. He confirmed what is currently posted on the annual pass holders site. Full benefits remain until pass expires. I have the DVC Gold

This addresses if you have a current AP, but does not address if you have a current AP/AP Renewal Certificate. They could still force you to apply the value of the old certificate (since the AP it is for no longer exists) to a new AP at the new price -- effectively making buying an AP Certificate on or before Oct 3 not save you any money. This is our situation -- bought a DVC AP Renewal certificates back in March which we won't activate until December. We could upgrade to Gold for $17pp, but December is blocked out, which would force us to upgrade to Platinum for $100pp.

I just read that Disney jacked up the price of the TIW card by 50% from $100 to $150. That means I would have to spent $750 to just break even. Goodbye TWI.

Has anyone called to verify the situation with vouchers/certificates? We have "regular" AP vouchers purchased with the DVC discount and were going to activate them next month.

We also have pre-purchased the memory maker which I want to cancel if WDW is going to give us the "gold" AP vs the "regular" AP which we purchased.

I really don't want to call member services but I might have to - I think we can get a refund on the memory maker if it hasn't been used, right??

After looking at the prices, I don't think it's bad. It will save our family money. We really like Memory Maker, we do a lot of character photos. I'm not crazy about blackout dates, but we can travel around them.

I can't remember what the price was last night.

The Gold is a new AP available to DVC members with black out dates, The Platinum is the old regular AP and the Platinum Plus is the old Premium AP.
Here is my Comparison Chart of old/new WDW Passes Prices/Benefits I previously posted:

This is confusing to me. We renewed our AP's a few weeks ago. I didn't think you could renew more than 60 days in advance. Our AP's expire in November - we renewed so that we could make FP before our upcoming trip in November. So, now, I have no idea what kind of AP I will have or if we will have to pay more when we check in with Guest services to activate them.

You can :) Check your MDE -- it will say whether it's a Annual Pass Renewal Certificate or Annual Pass:

This is somewhat off topic for the current discussion (but next year may make a difference when we are deciding to renew):
If the current AP expires on 10/18/15 (as in the above example) and you buy a renewal certificate, when does the "renewed AP" expire? Ie current one expires 10/18/15 but you don't use the renewal certificate until, say, 11/18/15: does the expiration date then become 11/17/16 or does it get back dated to 10/17/16?

I realize I have not had enough coffee yet this am - so I don't know if I am asking my question in a way that makes sense.

Oh ok, I see that now. Mine is a renewal certificate too. I was under the understanding that you couldn't renew more than 60 days in advance or 30 days after expiration. Otherwise, I would have renewed my son's AP too.

In the past, they have kept the same expiration date. That would be great if it was only from when you actually used it, but I doubt that would happen.

A renewal begins with the date the last annual pass expires and expires one year later. Our annual passes for the last few years due to renewals have begun on November 7 and expire on November 7th.

Here are the concrete details from my phone conversation:

-Unactivated AP vouchers will retain the same features as when purchased; i.e., no blackouts, no MM attached. This is 100% for sure.
-Activated AP vouchers are the same as above.
-The "may" in the T&C of the new passes is a lie. It's not that you "may" have to switch to one of their new passes upon wanting to renew, but "must". So, if you are booked after December 17th of this year and after December 19th of 2016 and have any ADRs booked, you will likely need to cough up an additional $100 per person for the Platinum pass.
-No ticket bridging specials are available (I didn't think so, but asked anyway).

I'm sorry, but I didn't ask about changing previously purchased and unactivated passes to a new kind, since none of them work for our needs.

No ticket bridging specials? Does that mean that we can no longer bridge tickets at all? Or just not get the added value?
