Am I reading it wrong or do DVC members no longer get a discount on Annual Passes unless one house with the Gold Pass with block out dates? If so, i'm very unhappy since we can only going during holidays due to kids in school.

Oops, auto correct. Meant unless one purchases a gold pass which has block out dates.

DVC can purchase the gold pass and yes it has blackout dates.

:earsboy: Bill

We still get a discount, but the Gold pass is the cheapest annual pass option. Right now the Platinum pass (pre-tax) is $679 for DVC members, $779 for non-DVC

Worth noting - as we just did this last week.

If you are a DVC Member (direct Disney purchase) wishing to "down renew" an AP from Platinum to Gold? You can do this. You just can't do it on the Website.
CALL Member Services. We did. Our cost for a 13 moth Gold Pass Renewal, renewed DOWN from Platinum, was $505.85 per person, with tax.

Check the official WDW Website - you will likely see what WE saw. The prices posted for DVC members are DIFFERENT than the "Call in" prices when one PHONES Member Services.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong. Offered to help others, based on YOUR personal choice.

As noted there's still a discount on the other passes but they've increased in price a lot and the discount is a bit less than it used to be if I recall correctly.

$505 per person? Can you explain the math on that one?

Okay... I think I see what you're saying. That's what the new passes cost, not what you saved. My error.

The renewal price for a gold pass is $475 + tax. That's $475+6.5% tax which comes to $505.85. Which is what you paid. The prices are the same.

No matter which pass you have, you can always pay the renewal rate for any pass.

So, if I want to renew my gold pass, but DGS can only go during the blackout period I can renew for the platinum pass without having to buy a new one? That would be great since he will be starting school soon and I am worried his parents won't want to pull him out of school for our planned 2019 trip.

It only blocks out the 2 weeks surrounding Easter and the Christmas / NYE holidays. It doesn't block out the summer months when kids are out of school.

During the renewal window, you can upgrade/downgrade to any level of annual pass you are entitled to and keep the renewal savings.

You can also upgrade an active pass to a higher level at anytime during the year.

Yes - CURRENTLY. But that is no guarantee of future block out dates. Why I point this out: WDW is selling Gold Passes TODAY, with no data on POTENTIAL blockout dates one year+60 days into the future. That would be MAY, 2018.

Why is this important: One may renew a pass (including Gold) 60 days prior to expiration (WDW rules). Today, (3-12-2017) one may renew to a GOLD PASS good through MAY 2018.
The rub: WDW will not reveal blockout dates beyond 2-28-2018. WDW needs to reveal the blockout dates over the lifetime of the pass. They are not doing so. In this action, they are violating their internal rules. One is offered an Annual Pass without full disclosure.

Silver blocks out summer months. And it is only available to Florida residents.

:rotfl: LOL this is nothing new! Since when has Disney EVER been up front & given advanced dates on ANYTHING?

The OP mentioned the Gold pass in her original post not the silver....so I assumed she was referring to the blackout dates for the Gold pass.

Some Gold Pass DATA - again, not listed on the official WDW Website....

So here is the REAL DATA on Gold Pass Blockout dates. First and foremost: "Please know that block out dates are subject to change". Ehhhhh - that means that published Gold Pass blockout dates are bogus. WDW may change them as they see fit. Beyond this? The dates offered are NOT listed on the WDW website. Those dates end 2-2018.

Sooooo - wife and I are reconsidering Gold Passes. They may be blocked, unilaterally, at any time.

Interesting. We have gold passes that expire in July. We planned a last minute 2 night birthday trip for my wife in April and just realized the blackout dates start on our arrival date. Is there a chance these dates could change? I am also not sure how much we will get charged to upgrade to platinum (I know, for 2 days that kinda sux) since we bought them before the price increase.
