My husband and I are just today going through the process of buying resale DVC points. We are more than excited. I just had one question. We know we are going in December 08 and want to use our 'sales pending' DVC points when we go. Do we have to wait until the close of the sale to book a DVC or can we start booking sooner rather than later?

you have to wait till your in the system, which going through resale takes longer. Once your in the system and have your number, only then I believe you can book

Also, don't get your hopes up for December this year as it is a popular time and could easily be already booked for whatever timeframe you're looking at. Most of us book December ressies day by day at 11 months.

But you never know. I booked day by day at eleven months out for a studio at SSR from Dec 27th to Jan 4th and today I added Dec 24, 25th & 26th and I also added Jan 4th. So it depends on where you want to stay, or if you are flexible about that.

Geesh, I hope not because we are definitely going in December, but the first part of the month, not during Christmas time, which I understood to be slower. It was last December. All DVC resorts just can't be reserved just yet. That could totally be the wrong statement, but it does seems a bit weird. Since we know it will take a bit for the paperwork and stuff to go through, I don't think this year we really care where we stay as long as we stay at a DVC resort.

December 1-14 are adventure season point value days(the lowest points/night in the point chart). Hence a favorite time for DVC'ers, low point stays, usually low crowds, all the Xmas parties and such without the Xmas crowds. Plus the annual members meeting is during that time.

Yes people do book day by day at 11 months for those 2 weeks. You will see the threads about ungodly hold times with MS the first 2 weeks of January. My guess is that SSR and OKW have availabiltiy, it depends on what type of villa you are looking for too.

I read last week on another thread that the only DVC with availability during the first couple of weeks in December was OKW. Everything else is booked solid and lots of waitlists.

I'm on the waitlist for any studio or one berdroom at theBCV or BWV for the first 2 weeks in Dec. You May be able to book Saratogo.

Last year I got 2 night BWV and 3 nights at my home WLV from 12/16 for 5 nights. I could not get all 5 nights at WLV, but I booked in June so do not think that you will not get a room. Plus I went on a waitlist for Boardwalk view for a 1 BR at BWV and it came through in October. You may not get where you want to stay but go on the waitlist. Good Luck

minikk,
Do keep tabs on it--your deed has to be recorded so that member services knows about you. You'll want to make ressies as soon as possible after that and wait list if need be. If your second choice is available--book it and wait list your 1st choice.

I made my BWV ressies pretty close to the 11month window (for 2-5 Dec 2008). By then all the Std view studios were booked.

Don't underestimate the wait list. Last year, I didn't have much hope of getting anything for 8-11 Dec 2007, but I called anyway... It was more than 30 days in advance, but not much more. I was surprised that 1 of the nights was available, so I booked it and wait listed the 2nd night (I didn't add the 3 night on until later). Anyway, the 2nd night came in at 7 days prior and the 3rd night was available as a result of calling each day (they dump all previous wait lists at 7 days prior-so you have to call each day and see if something has opened up). We ended up moving once because we didn't have the same room category for the last night, but --we were in DisneyWorld!

Ah, gotcha, that make sense. Well I am not into the whole swing of things yet, but if there is one thing I have learned from my DH is to not worry about where we are going to stay. It will all work out in the end.
