New and Need Help Please....

Hi,
I have been reading and reading and reading this forum but cant seem to find the answer to this question that is probably in an obvious place that I cannot find. If you could direct me, that would be great!

I want to make t-shirts for my family and have seen some really great designs on this board. I do not need custom ones and would love to use the generic ones that I have found.
How do I "get" the designs, just download them from photobucket and then print them on the transfer paper?
Do I need to get permission from the creator to use them or assume they are for everyone's use since they are posted?
Also, if I wanted to rework or add a child's name to someones generic design, which program would you suggest I use?
Please excuse my "neediness" but my trip is soon and I just found this awesome board!!

Yes, the DISigners post the pics so you can use them without getting permission. You download, print, iron and enjoy! We appreciate it when you post your finished projects, giving credit to the DISigners that assisted. You can add names with many programs. Some use Word, some PowerPoint, some Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and more. You can get free preview versions of some of these. I use PSE7 myself and love it!

If you use someone else's blank and customize it and post it, you should credit that DISigner.
