1. Frontierland expansion. Would it be great if RSR had to close for a couple hours each night? If they put any great E-tickets at the back of DL that is what will happen. The fireworks close Toontown and Fantasyland every time they are scheduled. They will effect any expansion to the north because they are fired from that area which means all of the areas will need to close in the evening for at least a long while.

There have been plans to build back there. Priorities just changed before they were finalized.

More pressing will be the Princess Fantasy Faire which wil be vacant after next Winter.

The tentative plan would be to expand Frontierland into what's now the Festival Arena, no? I've watched the fireworks from that arena (2 years ago with my high school band trip), so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have to shut down anything that goes back there. The only reason why they close down the main part of Fantasyland is the fireworks and effects done on the castle. The north most part of the Fantasyland is still open for the fireworks.

Also, I don't think it's any different than Screamin closing for WoC every night...except for the fact that this new ride would hopefully be a much more high-tech attraction and have longer lines.

Hmmm, I think that ASIMO is pretty amazing. I LOVE the Peter Pan story in Innoventions. The kitchen is pretty fun. And although I could do without it, people seem to LOVE being able to play with the various Xbox Kinect games in there. They are always being used. There's some fun stuff in that spinning building, imo.

I totally forgot about the Peter Pan story! I went into Innoventions once and that was 4 years ago...while that part of the attraction was neat, I guess I'm still one of those guests who doesn't get Innoventions.

Some people say that that they can't imagine that a Marvel park or land would be "Disney" enough. Well, I've never been to WDW but I can't wrap my head around what's "Disney" about zoos, water parks and world expositions but people seem to like them a lot so maybe Marvel would work. Plus, I think a Joss Whedon designed ride would be a kick. (But that's a whole different board. )

Ooooh, I would love a Joss Whedon ride. Heck, can we just have a Firefly ride?

I guess to me zoos, water parks, and world expos are pretty darn magical, and that's what makes them Disney (and I mean zoos in general, like the San Diego Zoo since I haven't been to the World in over 20 years). Marvel is pretty magical too, and I'm late to this party but agree with some previous comments that Marvel tends to be magical, though when it is at its best, in a much darker way than Disney traditionally aims for. Star Wars and Indiana Jones, the originals tended to be about hope and adventure and the indomitable human spirit whereas the Marvel comics tend to highlight the more villainous part of humanity (even in its heroes), and not always have a happy ending.

Neither does Star Wars --- and, well, Star Tours. I hate that it's in DL, as it has NOTHING to do with Disney. Alas, there it is. And people LOVE it because they love Star Wars. They seem not to care that it has nothing to do with Disney.

I don't know exactly what qualifies to "be Disney". There are things that disqualify for sure. I am not sure why ST or IJA (not that you mentioned it, but I would put it in a similar category) would not qualify. They are stories. Much like PP or Winnie the Pooh were stories - not written or invented by Disney. Disney took those stories and built on them. Seems fine to me - and a very Disney thing to do.

Umm.. Al is not a news source or a Disney source. I never quite understand why we here on DIS give him so much focus. He is a blogger who runs a message board site who sniffs out Disney rumors and writes about them. I would not call ANYTHING Al writes about to be "sound proof."

Knowing how you feel about Al and putting that aside, this is a Disney fan forum as you well know. Talking about Al Lutz speculations and rumors are one of the main reasons this kind of forum exists. Otherwise all we would have is what someone heard the CM say last week - and things officially released (and controlled) by Disney.

While I agree that TL must change to stay "future," I believe that a lot of attractions in TL that have been there a long time, many are still "future" for the "every person." Most of us cannot ride in a submarine or fly an airplane/rocket. And kids LOVE the idea of being able to drive. They are experiences that still have value in 2012. Now, a 3D theatre is an idea that has become commonplace and there is really nothing "Tomorrow" about it to anyone anymore.

Heck, they have tourist rides on submarines in Hawaii for goodness sake. Subs are old news. Space travel and rockets? Much more old news than in the 1960's but still appealing to folks as futuristic. But even now space tourists who have enough money can hitch a ride into space.

People Mover is nostalgic but for from futuristic. Space Mtn fits in TL. Star Tour fits. BLAB fits. Astro Orbiters fit thematically but not physically laughing. Nemo subs? Not really. Innoventions? Yes, it fits but is too boring. Autopia? Puuuuleeze. Opposite of futuristic.

The only one of the rumored three I would miss is Nemo Subs and that is because of the connection to the original ride. The current ride is a cut above mediocre.

How about some really new, real Tomorrowland rides?

The area being looked at for expansion includes the stables that are back stage. It's called the Circle D Ranch where the horses that work on Main Street live. This area in a sense mirrors ToonTown. Fireworks are shot from only about 50 feet behind ToonTown and the Circle D.

I agree that the front part of the expansion that could include the Festival Arena and Princess Fantasy Faire would be able to stay open but a previous plan for expansion went well beyond that area. That plan was real you can find documents about it. What Al Lutz is talking about with FA and PFF are rumors, and I have seen the sources for most of his expansion information and they are not as official as someone that actualyl makes plans, just grapevine information.

This rumor is based on two parts of information. PFF got a recent upgrade, and is not old enough for replacement. The Princesses are moving to thier new area off the Hub next Winter. So you get an empty ready to use space, it makes sense to say a new show will go in the stage. There is no information that this is in fact happening.

Disney now owns Marvel who the contract was with so now Disney is one of the contracted parties. Disney can decide to buy it out or determine that Universal is violating the contract and void it.

Contracts are far from final when they have clause upon clause written in them.

I would love to see the Country Bear Jamboree come back! An upgraded CB would be cool I like the idea of having a couple of different show sequences and songs.

I have never got the Inovations area. Autotopia is great for nostalgia and if you are under 10 it was one of my favorite rides before I could drive, but kinda boring now.

Whenever we would travel to CA for Disney in our teens when we wanted the thrill rides it would be 1 day at Six Flags or KBF and that would be good for us. I can see Disney angle of wanting to give the teens and thrill seekers their fix but Disney would have to really go big when they have parks like 6F and Universal and KBF in the area too. I just don't see me wanting a Marvel land/park, just my personal opinion.

I think expanding Fantasyland is great. I would love to see some villains getting their own dark rides. I think a darker vilians area would be so cool.

The subs make me want to hyperventilate. I could do without riding them but the lagoon is pretty to look at.

That would be FANTASTIC! I bought a Maleficent coffee mug in the Villains store back in 1993 and it is still my favorite mug. If it ever broke, I'd be heartbroken. DS(13) and I spent about an hour the other day talking about how awesome it would be if there was a "Villains Land" in Disneyland, the kind of rides we'd like to see there...he even drew up a map!

Four years ago? You need to check it out again. It's changed a lot. The various exhibits inside change a lot. There is lots that has come (and gone) in the last four years in that building.

I don't disagree with any of this. My comment that you replied to was in reference to this comment:

We do not do the same here on DIS for any other reporter that publishes Disney columns on a regular basis. That's all I was saying. In my opinion, we give WAY too much focus to Al's column. My apologies. My friends' kids rooms don't have special walls that fill with imagery when bed time stories are read, or interactive elements that coincide with a child's actions, or furniture that shakes in response to character's actions in a story. My house does not have an interactive cookbook / kitchen assistant that helps keep track of my pantry and assists with my recipes and grocery list. I don't have Xbox Kinect playing on a GIANT wide screen with surround sound. And I certainly don't have a robot in my home that I can see interact with someone. To me, those are pretty exciting things. Maybe my life is just too mundane, but I don't think so.

Well, I personally find Al's articles interesting and thought provoking. I look forward to them although sometimes I am disappointed in his critical tone. I post them here because this is a Disney fan site and I think other Disney fans might enjoy reading them. This thread has had 5000 visits so someone is interested.

None of this violates any DIS guideline of which I am aware.

And frankly, Al has written a lot of columns that have turned out to be correct forecasts of the future. You may view his columns as ramblings. I view them as informed speculation.

If there are other Disney articles you find interesting then maybe you could post them here too. I would be interested to read them.

Is Al too negative? Yes, maybe in the Simon Cowell sort of way. I think he often goes overboard and I wish he would take a different tack. But the fact that he is not a "rah rah" Disney fan gives him additional credibility with me.

Does that mean anyone here is "fascinated" with Al. Hmmm. I am fascinated by Disney. But by Al? No, not really. I doubt others here are either.

Fans of any pursuit like to speculate. That is part of being a fan. How many games will the Denver Broncos win with Peyton Manning this year? The debates go on and on. It is part of being a fan. Are there certain sports columnists I love to hate reading? Yep. But I am a fan so I read.

People read threads like this basically because they are fans.

By the way, my money is on the Broncos winning 10 games this year and winning the AFC West. Sorry Charger, Chief, and (ughhh) Raider fans...
