New Al Lutz: DCA Attendance Records, Removal of Nemo Subs?, New 3rd Marvel Park?

I was there Friday-Sunday. We did DCA all day Friday including Cars land. We did DL on Saturday and Sunday. We literally walked right on to most rides in Disneyland. We were in disbelief at how un crowded the park was on a weekend in June. We could see tons of people filing into CA Adventure any time the entry plaza was in view.

No Marvel, please! :sad2: I'm not against reaching out to franchises for inspiration, but Marvel branding is completely linked with Six Flags. It would be a shame that Disney couldn't think of any concept more creative and original to place inside Tomorrowland than something that another park already does, even if Disneyland spends 10x the amount on effects. What Disneyland does has to feel like nothing else, anywhere in the world.

I think a park that was built to theme "marvel" into it could go over very well if done properly. I think that the 10 year DCA "flop" has shown that people WANT a themed element (a Disney element), but it's also shown that it doesn't HAVE to be the fab 5.

I think if they focused on the more adventurous part of Disney (Hero's, Villains, etc of the cartoon and comic book type) they could incorporate Marvel into a Disney "adventure" park. Maybe even add additional Star Wars area's, etc.

I would be seriously sad to see the submarines go- I have a huge sentimental attachment to them, but I honestly DO understand the idea behind it.

I would be THRILLED to see an additional DVC resort in CA. I know that originally Disney had discussed not doing more then the villas at the Grand, but I know this has been revisited within the last 18 months due to occupancy rates and availability (thus why you can now use your points to stay in the hotel portion of the Grand Californian).

I've been to a Marvel-themed park. It's called Islands of Adventure.

I don't think it's a wise move for Disney to do the Marvel thing, as it's already being done by someone else, and feels much more suited to Universal or Six Flags.

Yep

FWIW, in CA six flags is DC themed...and Marvel is at Islands of Adventure, is there Marvel theming in six Flags elsewhere?

Had a feeling once Carsland opened Autopia would be mentioned often in rumours about its demise. I would hate to see it go being it is an original but
it is very dated. As for Finding Nemo we will not miss it if it goes. Walt Disney never intended Disneyland to be completed but always improving itself!!

um I would just like to go on record saying I said this earlier. I mentioned that a CM told me there was going to be a big remodel in TOmorroland after DCA that involved heavily around Autotopia. Not everyone believed it. Hopefully this is more sound proof, towards what I said.

by the way FL has a big add on coming too at least from the lady on the lilly bell they were planing on working on adding more to the back of FL

I would love to see Test Track and Mission: SPACE come to DL. Those were both big hits with my family.

If you think about it, if Autopia is on the chopping block, it makes total sense to take Nemo with it... Then they don't have to worry about not messing up the Nemo show building, which Autopia traverses. In fact, Nemo's show building has three other attractions on top of it: Autopia, the Monorail, and the relic of the Peoplemover.
I can imagine that the plan is to remove the Peoplemover tracks at the same time, unless they are going to fix them up with a new attraction.

Radiatior Springs Racers is basically Test Track. Mission: SPACE doesn't fit Disneyland's profile of ride types, though it might fit in in DCA.

Personally I'd rather not see even more clones. I'd prefer NEW rides, not rehashes of old ones.

TT came in improved form as RSR. M:S has been controversial and I doubt Disney would build another one.

My two cents.

Yeah...I figured that.

As far as coming up with new rides, it seems that it takes so long to plan/build them that anything "futuristic" will be outdated by the time it's finally implemented.

Just saying that nothing has been confirmed and not everyone will believe this either.

You also mentioned that Nemo would definitely stay because draining the water in the lagoon would cause the Matterhorn to collapse, which contradicts this article...so I don't think you can take credit for this one. :confused3

One thing is for sure, there will be no Stitch ride in our Tomorrowland - it stinks...literally.

:rotfl:

My son went on it first (without me), and he was SO excited for me to go with him again. I was really expecting something great, but couldn't let on that I thought it was boring. ;) And yes...it does stink!

I remember going on the previous incarnation of that ride, and LOVING it! I was scared out of my wits :scared1: but it was such a good "show" and I (may be the only one who thinks this) would love for it to be put in where EO is now. :confused3 Unfortunately they changed it into Stitch and everything I hear about it is bad.

As for the rest of Al Lutz's article, I would love if Autopia was re-imagineered into an alternative energy source ride like electric or hydrogen powered. Great look towards the future.

PinkBudgie, I was thinking along the same lines as you: maybe an updated version of Adventures thru Inner Space. It could be a great use of technology (and the PeopleMover systerm!) and bring back that education aspect that I think TL has been sorely lacking.

As far as a Marvel park/land, I'm kind of two minds about it. On one hand, I love Marvel. I grew up with the X-Men as a kid, comic books, tv show, etc. I was thrilled when all of these guys of my brother's and my generation grew up to be directors and producers and brought these wonderful characters to life. I went to Comic-Con last year and had a wonderful time. I am about as much of a comic nerd as possible but OTOH there is just something about a Marvel park/land in connection with Disney that doesn't make sense. It doesn't seem Disney to me and I would be afraid that such a place would turn into another SFMM and I definitely don't want that to happen. Of course I am always the one thinking while walking around World of Disney, that all of the Avengers merchandise doesn't really fit in with the DLR aspect.

All of this is a moot point though as Al pointed out, Disney really can't do anything until they fix the parking problem, especially if they decide to build something on the Toy Story parking lot. Can you imagine what would happen if they built something on that without building another parking structure first? :scared1: And they thought OMDD and this last 2 Sundays were bad. :rotfl:

Unfortunately, if they did anything with Marvel, it would almost HAVE to be its own park. It wouldn't fit in either park right now theme-wise. The other bad thing though is I feel like they would struggle to make an entire park based around it.

This is exactly what I said this afternoon. The marvels are fine and all but I can't see a whole theme park either. I can see them having a marvels attraction & a meet and greet area but to base a whole theme park around it would be a little strange for Disney. However I can't see them doing that cause then people will start to wonder why Star Wars never got its own theme park, or why Pixie Hollow or Indiana Jones didnt either. I hope a 3rd park is in order but keep it Disney themed with a section of Marvels.

As for Tomorrowland, I was THRILLED to hear this is in the talking stage right now. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see them get rid of innovations. What a waste of space. I'm really confused over this Nemo ride thing as they just reintroduced the subs back into the park a few years ago. I guess in the long run they may save money by getting rid of it. Autopia is kinda boring, and I think it would be fun if they themed it.

The only downside to these talks of Tomorrowland renovations is that opening day history would be ripped out of Disneyland. These are buildings and rides that have been there forever. It would be sad to see it go. But like Disney said "As long as there is imagination, this park will never stop".
