New aerial view of hub construction/progress

Thanks for posting that, Dan.

It's worth noting that the construction seen in that photo is maybe about half of what will be worked on in the Hub before it is completed.

The animation that I made below (from an artist rendering from wdwmagic) shows the difference between the Hub before any construction and what it will ultimately look like after all the work is done.

(We don't know when the work will all be done. Some reports say near the end of this year.)

I can certainly understand why they're doing this (more people in the parks than ever) but I'd be lying if I said I thought it looked nicer.

I wish I would have paid more attention on my previous trip in 2012 to how it looked "before".

Edit: And of course queue the usual "I hope this mostly finished when I'll be there later this year." post. :D

I noticed on the last trip that the "moat" will still be fully connected - There's a water tunnel that goes underneath the new platform.

I see from the overhead too that the rose garden path is still there - I'm going back in June, hopefully be able to get a few last photos there.

So is the rose garden path and dock area staying or going?
I think Disney needs to focus on cleaning up their parade route personally. Like, ways to get around it when you don't want to be stuck, and a way to get in and out of the park during it without getting stuck.

Sad but this will help with traffic SO much - one pathway to the castle seemed like it was a dated feature that needed to be done. I just hope we get some nice shrubbery and flowers to accomidate the look.

That is a part of all of this construction.

Look at the outer circular sidewalks in the "New Hub" photo of post #2 in this thread.
Those sidewalks will skirt the others in the hub (where parade-watchers stand) and allow
other guests to pass to/from the other "lands" much more easily.

ALSO, they are making more "guest-friendly/theme-friendly" the backstage route behind Main Street, so
guests can pass through without dealing with the parade-watchers standing along Main Steet.
Th new "freshening" of the backstage area will make it much nicer for guests than the current
"parking lot" that they see today. (Image below is of the "parking lot" look, before the upcoming update, currently in progress.)

I think the original RG path is going and the dock area is already gone. This appears to me to be addressing crowd flow issues in the Hub and Main Street areas for both the parade and fireworks.

Love your name, SU. I know exactly what it refers to. :goodvibes

ETA: Ah, Robo beat me again--even with his infernal maps! ;)

Goodness.. no path down to the swan dock aka rose garden. :(

I may be misremembering, but I recall photos of the dock itself being destroyed months ago.

I can tell you that the image below (taken from a Disney-made animation of what the completed Hub will look like,)
shows no sign of the old dock.

I think you remember OK. It is the first comment I was gonna make on Robo's animation (as awesome as it is) the dock is still there and it shouldn't be. The picture linked in post #1 is proof.

Just know that I didn't create the images.
They came from Disney and/or wdwtoday.
I just put them together in an "A/B" animation.

Just messin' with you, as I'm sure you know.

Looks like they may be keeping the rose path minus the dip down to the dock. (waah). And also removing the "bust stop" structure that was (in the picture) to the top of the (now) inner hub.
