New ADR Cancelation Policy

I just thought I'd point out another net positive or reason for Disney instituting this policy.

The CM's who are your Servers at these restaurants. Why I don't know the specifics of Disney's contracts, in general, Servers (aka. waiters/waitresses) get their income via Tips. Their paycheck is only enough to cover taxes/benefits. [Minimum wage is around $7.50/hr now. Servers however are only required to be paid $2.13/hr with the expectation that tip income will bring them above the minimum wage].

So people can (and are) making arguments that no matter what onsite restaurant they eat at, TS or QS, Disney still gets the money.... You cannot say the same about the serving staff at the restaurant you just ditched your ADR at. (and I won't even get into the tip-out'd positions like hostesses, bus boys, bartenders, etc)

Now multiply this by the large anecdotal percentage of no-show ADR's across the resort, and you can easily see there being a good number of servers getting screwed in the deal. And for locations that have particularly bad no-show numbers, you end up having Disney make up the difference between what the server made in tips and the regular federal minimum wage..... assuming the union contracts aren't even more limiting.)

Soooo... You can see this CC guarantee serving multiple purposes.

1. provide Guests with an extra motivation to either go to or cancel their ADR's, instead of just pulling a no-show.

2. Help fill the seats in the restaurants with people either showing up for their ADRs or via Walk-ups..... which helps ensure that the servers working there make their tip $$$.

3. In cases of cancellations, Disney can better forecast needed staffing levels so you don't force employees to sit around twiddling their thumbs all night for no $$$

4. and in cases of no-shows, the $10 fee can help offset the increased labor costs Disney incurred by having staff working that didn't get tips..... ultimately resulting Disney paying several $$ per hr more for the staff than they would've needed to pay otherwise.

Finite is not an accurate term since the amount of people is fungible due to the fact that, "There's one born every minute" :rotfl2:

sounds like a new toy, probably a flexible one that can fly.
as least if I was playing Balderdash, that's what I would put down as a definition!

looked it up, a law term "being of such a nature or kind that one unit or part can be exchanged or substituted for another equivalent unit or part in the discharging of an obligation. whatya know? learn something new everyday!

I wonder if Tony's in MK is on the list too ? :confused3
I did not see it listed.

I do not mind CC holds ($40 per meal for our family of 4).
As stated before - if you can not attend a 24 hour cancellation fee will be imposed.
This will open up tables for others when they are at WDW.
:goodvibes our example :goodvibes
Last time we went to WDW, we could not acquire a Cindy breakfast ADR.
I think the policy back then was a $15 or $25 hold.
Anyway - we called WDW dining one night and was able to get a Cindy breakfast
for the next morning. What wondering timing - someone must have cancelled within the 24 hour time limit.

I am sure with the new policy - people will cancel within the 24 hour window, so not to be charged and will open up tables for new ADR's and walk-ins.
It will also employ the TS to it's fullest and let WDW make the money it deservers.
No customers = no profits and wasted food.

I'm hoping this policy might open up some more same day availability. There have been many times I have tried to do a walk up and there has been no availability. I do make my "must do" reservations, but there are certain times I'd just like to get into a restaurant on a whim.

The NEWEST policy now appears to be 48 hours prior according to the info link on MDE on the ADRs I have made recently. When did the policy change?

48 hour cancelation policy?! I'm really not happy about that. The 24 hr one I griped about, but could deal with. 48 hours is annoying for vacation. I miss having spontaneity during vacations at WDW. The combo of Fast Pass+ and the new dining reservation policy is really killing flexibility.

I think of myself as fairly savvy with the 'ol computer, however I find it next to impossible to figure out how to cancel my dang reservations once I make them. It is bad enough that you have to make these things months in advance, but now WDW charges you when you are a no-show.

I don't have a problem with that, really i dont. But please make it easy to cancel them. That my disney experience ap is some dookey.

I was able to cancel one of my dining reservations from the MDE web site. Does you reservation show up under Dining on MDE? If so, look for a "cancel" link on the right side under the confirmation number. :surfweb:

I finally was able to cancel it on the web version vs. my phone. They don't make it easy on you, though.

I was confused by that also. Did a little research and the new wording is all cancellation policies are up to the restaurants. It appears all restaurants are requiring cancellation prior to midnight the day prior (e.g. you have a 6pm ressie at Boma on Tuesday, you need to call by 11:59 p.m. on Monday to cancel without being charged), so in effect it really isn't even 24 hours.

The reason they added up to 48 hours is to cover special dining packages like the Candlelight Processional.
