Ok, so questions about this have been asked for nearly a week now and I have some concrete info about it.

Yes, you can now buy in at 100 points as a new member. This is only available for Animal Kingdom Villas. You can only buy at exactly 100 points (not 110 or 120, etc), or you can go with the 160+ point option.

This is available at all locations (WDW, DL, Chicago), including by phone.

There are still contracts available at Jambo House, though most will be Kidani (I was able to get Jambo with a Feb use year). There are NOT developer points available for this offer (at least for now).

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Also, if you need the name and phone number for a DVC Guide, please PM me and I will send you his info. I am so impressed with my guide! He was awesome!

Very strange marketing, that you can buy exactly 100, but nothing in between 100 and 160. I wonder what the purpose of that would be?

I wondered the same thing. I guess it must be to be able to give people another option without fully lowering all contract amounts. This allows them to compete much easier with resale, but since it is restricted, a lot of people with still go with the full 160.

Maybe its a clearance sale so they can finally announce a certain building that everyone knows about but no one speaks of... :)

I doubt it is any kind of clearance sale, they'll have a ton of points in Kidani. It may a temporary reaction to the slowing economy.

Hi all. My first post as a DVC member!

I'm "Rick", the guy who tipped this off. My wife and I did not intend to become DVC members (we are also in the process of buying a house and just wanted to see the room) but this hooked us in.

It's good for younger couples who don't have a ton of leeway in their income but enjoy going to the world on a regular basis. It's also going to be REALLY easy for Disney to take your refund check now ($1200 check...$1040 the down payment...it's a wash).

We really can't buy any more points right now, though I wish we could. And while we haven't really been affected by the economic downturn (no kids), we certainly are cognizant of the effects, and it was a somewhat tough decision to buy in lieu of this.

Here are the other thoughts. Our first payment won't be due until Mid-August, which helps us out, as you might imagine. And because Kidani Village isn't ready yet, annual DUES aren't collected until May 2009. So for the first six or seven months or so, we'll be paying just $120/mo.

We already have a regular trip planned for mid-August, so this all worked out very well for us. I'm sure we aren't alone -- I could see this hooking a LOT of people on their summer vacations.

I agree with Chuck. I'm also VERY surprised they are doing this. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it will be to use just 100 points at AKV if you own nothing else in DVC.

Limiting a contract to exactly 100 points doesn't make a lot of sense, either. If these 100 point contracts are treated exactly like regular contracts (and no reason to think otherwise) they could do an add-on, with no closing fees, of 25 or more points (cash/credit card), 50 points for financing.

I was (sort of) joking, but I do wonder if they are seeing a slowdown in sales or interest, and getting feedback that a smaller buy-in might result in some more sales. 100 points might be an attractive starting point for people who don't see WDW as an every-year destination, but every two or three.

I totally get why they are doing it...it pushes the price below 10 grand, which is an important psychological barrier.

We bought in right when they dropped the points to 150 back in 1996 (It had been 220 before) and it WAS important that the price was under the $10,000 mark...of course, this was back when points were only $62!

My guess would be that this is a trial run (you know how Disney likes those) to see how well it works.

I think someone saw the percentages of people that add-on once they are in the program and thought they could get even more people in the door at a lower price point.

If you stayed in a studio it would work. You could do a Sun-Thurs Premier Season stay for 100 pts in a SV studio.

That's if I'm reading the AKV point chart correctly and Sun-Thurs SV studio is 20ppt/night.

We started with a 100 point resale. I think a lot of people would like to start with a smaller contract.

where you able to use your points for the August stay?

I think the smaller entry option is a good one. Besides, add-on-itis will eventually set in, making up the difference. But for those who can afford the reduced monthly payment if financing, this is also a good option.

I called and spoke with a guide a couple days ago about the 100 point offer.

He repeated the "it's a trial run" statement.

But he also said that one of the kickers on the 100 point buy in, is that your add on, assuming you make one later, has to be 60 points.

So no 30 point add ons until you've reached the 160 point like everyone else.

Still not a bad idea we really debated it, but with economy and all that we figured a 50 point resale that lets us add on whatever we want was a better toe wetting than 100 points with mandatory 60 points as the add on.

But it was close, came really close to doing it. I think if there had been some developer points I would have been unable to resist.

But that's just me.

But, is there anything that would prevent someone who owns the 100 point contract from doing a smaller add-on via resale? If not that "ban" is kind of silly, too. Unless they actively start ROFRing smaller contracts being sold to non-members, or members that currently own less than 100 points.

I should clarify that you are not stuck to only staying at AKV, you can only buy the 100 point contract at AKV. Once you have you points, you are under the same booking rules as everyone.

100 points is perfect for DH and I. We have no kids and so we always travel in the off-season; January, Sept, sometimes Oct or May. DH does not want to go every year, so what I plan on doing is either going solo or taking my DM every other year and then me and DH going every other year.

In May 2009, DM and I are looking at possibly BWV for a Saturday-Friday stay. Since i am not travelling this year, I will have those banked points I can use. That is an 81 point reservation. Then, in January 2010, DH and I will be going to AKL, Savannah View. I will have 119 points available (use year is February, so 100 points left from 2008 UY and 100 from 2009 UY) at that time. A full week in SV view is 101 points, or if I can get conciere, that is exactly 119 points!

See, perfect!!
