Never used Lyft or Uber, anyone else?

We have never used Lyft or Uber. The only service we have ever used is ME, Mears, and Sunshine Flyer. We live in a small/medium rural town so we don't have taxis or those services. I'm embarrassed to admit it seems weird to me to jump in a car with a stranger. The buses we've used, while yes, a stranger is driving them, it's more like a business and less like "taking a ride from a stranger". Go ahead and tell me I'm weird! LOL

Also from a small town where uber is not a thing. Sad the ME is gone and already trying to decide what we will do to get to resort in August from the airport. I think I'd like to try uber or lyft, but worried about trying it on day one of vacation if it doesn't work. Not exactly able to do any practice trials due to the small town issue.

Not strange or weird at all! I use them on a semi regular basis and it is very easy. I live in a major city and it's often cheaper to use a rideshare than to pay for parking - if you can even find parking. And I won't use public transportation anymore. If I'm by myself, I make sure I do take precautions. Once the information about the driver is sent to me (you will get the drivers name, type of vehicle, and plate number in advance of the pickup, once you book your ride) I take a screenshot and text it to a friend or family member and I make it obvious to the driver that I am doing so. I also make sure the person picking me up matches what I was sent. Both apps have an emergency feature where you can tap to alert them of something going wrong, you do have to keep the app open. Or you can have 911 pre-dialed and ready to go, just make sure you don't accidentally dial it! I tend to find the rideshares so much cleaner than a taxi and the drivers seem to be friendlier, too. And it often costs less than a taxi.

I hadn’t used it until this past January. I had to have my car towed to the garage, where it was worked on for several days. When it was time to pick it up, I had to Uber to the garage to pick it up. I was a little nervous, but it went fine. I don’t know that I would feel comfortable after dark, but this was during the day. I did keep my phone at the ready, and I did text someone when the car picked me up. I don’t think I would use it a lot, but sometimes you need a ride and there really isn’t much in the way of local taxis where I live.

Not weird at all -- plenty of people I know in the city who haven't either. We use Lyft at WDW a fair bit instead of buses (when buses are backed up or slow) to get to the parks or Springs from the hotel. It's usually about $10-$14 for the trip.

I took my first Uber ride with my adult son in NYC in October. He wanted to go to a French restaurant in Soho and we were staying in Times Square. I was reluctant, but he convinced me it would be fine and it was.

I don't think you're weird either. The first time I used uber was with a coworker, and used it around Vegas for the week. I've since done a handful of rides by myself.

As far as riding with a stranger, I really don't see it any different than using a taxi.

The bus service would probably be cheaper, rideshare faster. If you're a couple (or more) I wouldn't hesitate to jump into a ride share for the first time.

I’ve used Uber a few times but it’s very popular here, lots of people I know use it all of the times (including my kids) when going out so they can drink and not drive. My town is only 3 miles but folks uber to restaurants and friends homes.

I'm totally weirded out with the thought of Uber or Lyft. We do have taxis in our town, but I've never used them.

If I need a ride somewhere, I ask relatives or friends. I've booked airport limo services, however, a few times.

I don't think you're weird, but I can't imagine life without them. I live in the city, and our only parking option is on the street. Whenever there's a parade/festival/event (which, I live in NOLA, so that's a LOT), if we move the car we end up circling for an hour when we get back before finally finding a spot three or four blocks away. And then trying to find parking wherever we're going is equally challenging. So if it's not within walking distance, it's Uber/Lyft or stay home (especially since the streetcar line by us has been closed for years since the Hard Rock Hotel collapse). But even when there's not an event, it's just so much easier to get door to door service. And it solves the problem of drinking and driving or having to have a designated driver.

I've used them all over the country, both with people and alone, at all hours of the day and night, and never felt sketchy or uncomfortable. On the contrary, the drivers have always been friendly and helpful, often going above and beyond the call of duty. If you ever find yourself in need of a ride, don't be scared. Use common sense precautions as detailed above, and then go for it!

We have never used one. It's not because it seems odd to us to do so, but we just have not needed the service. We might try it in January for our Universal trip, though.
