Never used Lyft or Uber, anyone else?

We live in a small town also. I don’t think Uber or Lyft is available. At WDW earlier this month, we used Uber XL to get us all from the airport. Tried it going back and the driver’s car wasn’t big enough for us and all of our luggage so I called a Mears Taxi. It was more expensive but worth the difference for the extra space. Our son used the app to set up the Ubers and I just called for the Mears.

I have not, but my kids have. I’m not opposed to it, just haven’t felt the need so far. They do it more to go out to the bars and drink safely. Neither my husband or I are big drinkers so not something we’ve used. Lately oldest DD (22) and her friends use middle DD (19). She picks them up at in the city and they each Venmo her $5. She makes $20-30 and they get a cheap, safe ride home. If she takes them to Sheetz on the way home (like a WaWa or QT) they also pay for her food.

The only times I’ve done either was on a business trip and I was with two others. Not sure I’d do it on my own.

We've only used Uber once on one of our last trips to WDW. We were flying in late for Mickey's Not So Scary party and didn't want to waste any time getting from the airport to the resort. We had a little issue with our first driver (accepted and then didn't show), but our second driver was great.

We have never used Lyft or Uber. The only service we have ever used is ME, Mears, and Sunshine Flyer. We live in a small/medium rural town so we don't have taxis or those services. I'm embarrassed to admit it seems weird to me to jump in a car with a stranger....
....oh, you mean, like a TAXI CAB?? :rotfl2:
[PS ~ I've never used Uber or Lyft either...;) ]

It will never not be weird, but like a lot of things in life, you get over it and do it anyway.

I will do anything to avoid renting a car. If you on vacation Uber just makes things easier. Taxis are ok, but taxis and taxi drivers tend to be much worse than uber driver. Locally we noticed there a lot less Uber drivers, they seem to switch to food delivery, I can see the reasons, safer and better hours.

I’m from a small city (big to me, small to others) …. We don’t have Uber here (At least, I don’t think we do… Since Covid began, I’ve dropped the idea of any taxi style rides).

I first heard of Uber when I went to Disneyland 2015: the people on one of my tours were talking about it… So I tried it to go from my hotel to the airport on departure. No issues.
I added the Uber App & along with a credit card (1 with a lowwww limit).

The next couple times I went to WDW, other than ME to/fro the airport, I used Uber to get to/fro Universal, Celebration, and even between the parks/resorts on occasion (if we were super tired & cranky).

I always found the cars to be very clean, and the drivers personable! I think maybe it’s partly because you rate the drivers/ the experience.

Since then, I’ve used Uber across Canada, and found it so very useful:
While in Toronto, I arranged an Uber for my mom in Burlington & the driver let me know when she was picked up & dropped off, and I was able to track the vehicle along the route AND I was able to pay for it!

On a long layover in Toronto, a sister took public transit from airport to ?a specialty shop? way north of there, but got lost and overwhelmed trying to figure how to get back to meet me so we could meet relatives somewhere for supper & worried about exorbitant cab fare ….. I said not to worry, I’ll send an Uber to take you right to our final destination , you don’t need to pay a thing, i could even do the tip. I figured where she was and, arranged for an Uber to pick her up & where to drop her off , (texted her the drivers name, license plate, car colour & type, and texted the Uber driver my sister’s exact coordinates, lol, and the colour of her coat).

These things just aren’t easy to do with regular cabs!

You would think with the competition, taxis would try harder. They are typically terrible. most will only take cash, and will not make change. And the drivers are the can't get any other job type. And yes, they love they scenic route game to add miles. Uber is so much better, you know exactly what the cost will be and when the driver will arrive.

I have never just because I haven’t had to yet. Would use if I had to during travelling. I did recent take a normal cab as it was in the middle of a snow storm and DH could not pick me up from the bus . The cabs were right there so it was easier than figuring out the Uber app. DH took a Uber backfrom the car dealership when getting the car service but they paid and arranged for it.

You know, you can map the route and tell taxi drivers which way to go, right? I've done that several times.

:confused3It just depends, I guess. I recently took two cruises (6 weeks apart) out of San Pedro and had to get to port (and back) from LAX. With surge pricing, Uber quotes were $130+ each time. I took metered cabs (4 trips total) and the fares were all within $4 of each other; about $70 per ride. I had absolutely no issue with any of the drivers or their vehicles and the ease of walking up and grabbing one at the taxi stand was, to me, easier than calling an Uber. AND personally, I prefer the option of being able to pay cash; something you can't do with Uber/Lyft.

I’d never used them before our Disney trip in February this year. We didn’t have a car rental and it was much more convenient to get a Lyft to Disney resorts for meal reservations than having to connect on Disney transport. We’ve since used them in other parts of the US too. I like that you can quickly check prices yourself and don’t have to call and check availability for a taxi.

We don’t have Lyft in the U.K. but do have Uber, though it’s not really available in my relatively rural area. I have used UberEats a few times though! I’d love to have it service more parts of the U.K. but we already have a really good transportation system so it’s not the be all and end all.

Never used any of them which are basically on-line taxi cab companies. The company has never made money and not sure when that might change.
