..... attend a Super Bowl parade! Just not my thing, not something I ever thought I would be doing. Outside of Disney, I'm pretty crowd averse. When the Royals won the World Series in 2015, my husband took the boys to the parade. But they didn't go to the Super Bowl parade in 2020. Just too cold. This time our oldest really wanted to go. And my husband had a meeting he couldn't get out of. So when my son came in and asked if I would take him, I was like "me?" "You're talking to me?" Then I looked behind me to see if someone else was standing behind me. When I got over the shock, I decided it was something I wanted him to experience, so I agreed.

We left home at 8:45 AM and got home around 5:15. Nobody was available to drive us down and drop us off, so we went to the zoo and took a shuttle bus. It was quite the journey. Do you see us in there? (Not my photo, but the rest are). I'm the only person not in red. ;)

A few photos I took from 5 or 6 rows back on the parade route.

Anyway, it's always fun to switch things up and do things you never thought you'd do. And make good memories for and with your kids. I'm glad I went.

:goodvibes I get it. We became unlikely basketball fanatics during the Toronto Raptors 2019 championship season. We live on the other side of the country, but did actually consider flying out for that celebration. No doubt if it had been local, we would have been right in the middle of it. I'm glad to hear you went - these things can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. :goodvibes

We skipped the parade this year. When we went in 2020 we were out there for more than 8 hours in the freezing cold (like couldn't feel your feet cold) and 3 out of the 4 of us came down with the flu. We decided nope on flu, covid, etc.

BUT I did know multiple people that went to this year's. And a few of us were discussing how our school was never that cool to cancel for stuff like this in our youth.

Come to find out one of the local DISers was there in 2020, they were at the front of the parade and we were in front of Union Station so completely opposite ends but had no idea.

I did watch the parade on tv though.

Here's a photo from 2020:

In 2020 we got there at about 7:45am or so and there were already this many people around at just before 8am:

My sister-in-law and I did go to the Royals parade in 2015 (my husband was in TX on assignment at that point) and it was the first of that sort of mass event I had been to. Good times :)

Mahomes and Kelce are great. I really enjoy seeing how much Mahomes especially is all about the fans.

You'll have to check in with me for tips on how to survive the experience if you ever get a chance to go!

8 hours at the 2020 parade would have done me in! We were very fortunate to have more reasonable temps this year. Temps were high 30's, low 40's. Wasn't nearly as cold as I feared, especially packed in there with a million or so of my closest friends. ;)

I was shocked when they canceled school in 2015 (and again in 2020 and 2023) but I get it. Too many students and staff weren't going to show up anyway. At least they haven't had too many snow days this year.

Mahomes does seem like a really likable guy. I love how hard he tries to spread the glory around.

I also appreciated him giving me some great poses. ;)

I like this shot in particular, because it’s a photo taken on a phone, of another person recording on a phone, all of a guy on his phone.
Very meta, don't you think?

Mine wasn't taken on a phone, but your point stands.

I remarked more than once how strange it was to take pictures from the crowd of people in the parade taking pictures of the crowd. All those phones. And the irony is that I wasn't able to get a phone signal the entire time we were there.

I missed the parade the first time the Ravens won the SB but went to the one when they won the second one with DM and also went to the Washington Nationals World Series parade with DH. Such amazing experiences!

Looks like fun. I attended a parade when our baseball team won the world series. I would do it again even If I'm not that into whatever team won. It's could be a once in lifetime experience. I think it's a nice bonding moment for a city.

1992 the Penguins won their 2nd Stanley Cup. Big celebration at Three Rivers Stadium and my brother wanted to skip school to go to Pittsburgh with his friends. Mom said no.

Brother comes home from school. "You didn't go to Pittsburgh, did you?" "Are you sure you didn't go to the celebration?" "I'm going to ask you one more time, did you go?" Answer was no all three times. Then....

Well, I just happen to turn on the news and there you all were on camera. "No WAY!!!!! We were on the news!!!!"

Nope, but now you're busted. I asked 3 times if you went.

My idiot brother got himself caught with everything he did.

I went to the Patriots parades in 2004 and 2005. We were in City Hall Plaza in 2004 for the rally, which they stopped doing after that because the crowds were too dangerous and did rolling rallies from then on. I also went to the Red Sox parade in 2004 (I was mad at them for trading Nomar that year, but couldn't miss the historic moment) and the Bruins parade in 2011.

I went both times the Ravens won the Super Bowl. Plus the Orioles in 1983.
