We got a letter in the mail yesterday from the Tennessee Valley Authority. I thought that was kind of interesting and couldn't imagine what it could possibly be. I handed the mail to DH, and he started going through it. When he opened the TVA letter, he got a funny look on his face and handed it to me to read.
The letter was basically asking us to provide a reference for one of our former renters, because the individual had applied for their housing. You know, how much the rent was for the place they rented from us, did they pay on time and take care of the property appropriately, etc.
Now the interesting thing is that we do not now, nor have we EVER, owned any rental property.
The reason we know this guy is that his children attend the school system where DH and I work, and his children ride DH's school bus. We've both had his kids in our classes at various times throughout the years.
We also know him, because he had a habit of stopping at our house at 2 or 3 a.m. wanting to borrow some gas (or wanting DH to carry him various places to get some). After the third time, DH told him NOT to come back to our house for gas.
I also remember him, because when I had his son in my 7th grade class, he would stop by sometimes to see how the boy was doing and tell me that he knew how bad the boy was (he thought he ate too much hot sauce!
). I repeatedly told him that the young man had never been a second's trouble in my class and that he was a pleasure to have around.
Now he's listed US as having lived in "our" rental property! It's obvious that DH's been holding out on me for the last 22 years and has money that I don't know about!
