Never challenge a DISer to find a deal--a Nov/Dec PTR 11/26: Today's the day!!!

That is such a cool idea! I am going to have to find things that are a lot more obvious and I think we would have to make it a whole family thing to do. Hmm... one more thing to go on my to do list! :rolleyes1

I tweaked the list a bit for some items, making it easier for the kids to follow. As a family hunt, maybe finish the hunt in the gift shop and 'rewards' can be Disney dollars!

:worship::worship::worship: Awesome idea!!!

Isn't it amazing?? I love jumping off of other's creativity! :lmao:

Thanks! :goodvibes

I'm going back now to get caught up, but I'm loving all your plans so far. I think the kids will really love POP. :)

Yay for decisions! And yay for POP! I can't wait to try it out in December!! :goodvibes

It sounds like Pop is the place to be around the holidays. Hopefully I can get back and post a few pics before it's your turn to go!

Hola! :goodvibes

Kathy

Hi Kathy! Glad to see you back! About 12 hours before you posted this I was worried about you and had intended to send a PM asking if things were ok. Then someone around here got, hurt, hungry, tired, or frustrated and well, I forgot.

OHH!!! I love the Disney $$ idea! What a great way to give them their spending money for the trip? Can you get Disney $ online or does it need to come from Disney/Disney store? I know the kids will have money, so we might have to work on this!

You are very welcome!!

:welcome: Thanks joining in! I am thinking the kids are going to love Pop too!!

My kids have gotten Disney dollars (certificates) from the Disney store as gifts from their uncle. Maybe someone on the DISign boards has already created something similar? Then you can just charge any purchases to your room but the kids can proudly hand over their hard earned dollars. :thumbsup2

Party Planning!!

We are in full party planning mode around here. Doug and Aileen have birthdays that are 2 days apart. I was hospitalized on Doug's birthday so last year his birthday ended up being an afterthought. Even with Aileen having a first birthday this year, I was determined not to have him be an afterthought again. So, I am throwing two birthday parties 24 hours apart. :scared1: Aileen is having friends and family over for a "You Are My Sunshine" party. It's the song we sing to her every night before she falls asleep. Doug is having a secret agent party, complete with secret codes, marshmallow shooters, scavenger hunts, and a bomb cake! It should be a wild time for a group of 6 year old boys!

There's one more party I am planning for this summer and it's the one I really need help with... the "100 days til Disney!" party. The boys know that we are going to Disney "soon". They know it's sometime after Aileen turns 1, but we have never talked dates or even months of the trip around them. So, our plan is to throw a party to announce the trip, reveal our countdown calendar, etc. I am hoping to have a Disney themed meal (either Mickey-ish food or actual foods from the parks) and have an activity or a something to represent each park and the two hotels we are staying at. So, what ideas do you have for me? Any crazy, fun, brilliant ideas?

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- you are BRILLIANT!! With a 4 year old and a 6 year old, you don't want them carrying money around, but having their own money to spend is awesome! Thanks for the great idea!!! :cheer2:

Aww shucks  Your welcome!

What a great theme for Doug! Does he like Special Agent OSO? Demetri loves that show. :happytv: You Are My Sunshine sounds wonderful. :goodvibes

I can't wait to see what other ideas people give you. Mickey pancakes and waffles are fun. Disney movie night with popcorn in Mickey decorated bowls/tubs? Something off the menus (or close anyway ) from the ADRs you have? Pop has an awesome tie-dye cheesecake (which I still have to try!) and they do the Hustle at 6pm every day! :dance3:

Both birthday parties sound like fun!

Can't wait to hear about your Disney party plans!

The secret agent party sounds like a blast!!!! The "You are my sunshine" party is such a cute idea! I can't wait to see the pics...you will share, right?! :goodvibes

As for Disney parties - there is a "Disney Theme Night" thread somewhere here on the DIS with LOTS of good ideas...let me see if I can find it....

Doug really has no interest in the show. When it first came out he liked it but I think he thinks he's too old. He's so goofy, he loves every new show for about 2 weeks and then just drops it! I am looking forward to the You Are My Sunshine party too. It's girly but not going to be over the top - which is perfect for us!

I was pondering something off of the menus from our ADRs, but then I realized I need to commit to what we are eating! :lmao:

Thanks! We are leaving on vacation in about 36 hours and I am hoping to have some time to think about the various options for the parties while I am soaking up the sun!

I told a friend (who also has a Henry who is just about 3) that I would save all of the secret agent things I've gathered and could pass the files along to her. I'll do the same for you! Doug is the youngest boy in his class and has younger interests, so this was my way of downplaying the fact that he likes Cars and Toy Story far more than Star Wars and Power Rangers! Of course I'll be sharing pics!! I was pondering adding the invites yesterday, but then I thought it might be overkill. :D

I remember that thread....

Yep! Here it is: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1707141 There is a "countdown" section with ideas too.

I hope this helps a bit!! Otherwise, recruit MeMomm, they throw awesome parties!

Thanks Brook!! I spent about 45 minutes looking through it at naptime instead of packing or sewing! I am hoping MeMom has some amazing ideas to pass along once camp is over!

I would love the Secret Agent party info!!! Henry will love that when he's a bit older. :thumbsup2

I get lost in that thread as well! We've never done anything like that, but I'm thinking we might do one next month - Joe will think I've lost it, but secretly enjoy it!

Outta here!!

In the morning we are packing up and hitting the road - destination: Lake Michigan!! South Haven to be exact!

My parents have rented a cottage near the lake and we are going to spend a week with them there. All of my brothers will be coming out for a bit as well! We are so looking forward playing in the sand, splashing in waves, and making memories with my family. I'll be back in a little over a week to continue the fun and hopefully have lots of photos from our time at the beach!

I love disney theme nights! We do them every other week at our house, we have themed food depending on the movie we are watching and we decorate. It's usually pretty low key, just something to keep the magic building and to expose DS to new movies. We are having a Toy Story theme this coming week, and I found these perfect cakes at a grocery store. They are petite cakes and they have both a Buzz and a Woody design... so we ordered both! :rotfl: I have found Mickey breaded chicken patties and chicken nuggets before, as well as ravioli, and I heard that there are Mickey pizzas as well, if you just want to do a general Disney theme. You could always pop in a vacation plannign DVD as background!

Have a great time!! I can't believe how hot it was today in Cincinnati! We were driving back from Newport last night at 11pm and the temp went between 90 and 92 degrees!!! I was like man, did we move to FL and if so, I don't EVER remember it being this hot when I lived there!

A few vacation pics!

We spent the last week of July in South Haven Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan. We were worried Aileen would hate the sand, but we were wrong:

Doug and Liam had a BLAST playing in the sand too!

They finally got comfortable swimming in something other than the pool:

We admired the amazing views all around us:

We went sailing again with FIL and we only had one sick kid this time... and actually it was not even that bad for him!

On the way home, we stopped at a museum in Ann Arbor and the kids (and adults) had a ball trying things out!

Do you see me?

There's a bell in that toy and Aileen thought she was so funny to make the bell ring when she shook it.

And that was our trip in a very big nutshell!
