We will be going to wdw again this October. We love Disney, but I would also like to go to Universal Studios this year. We usually spend about 6 days at wdw. How long do we need for univ.?
Also, do you think Oct. will be too busy? We have previously always gone to Orlando the first week of June.

Not better but different. Both have great qualities and that is why hit both every trip. In order to do Universl right I would say 2-3 days. October is when we went last year and we did not find it too crowded. You have to remember that both Universal and Disney hold some sort of Halloween party making October a desirable month.

Like hockey mom said, not necessarily better, just different. I think they are both a lot of fun but in different ways. Universal is a little more thrilling where Disney is a little more cutesy. :)

Agree.......... both are great in thier own ways!! Also, october is so much fun......... halloween horror nights is awesome!!!

Hi Hockey MOM!
USO is what WDW is heading toward and USO going toward the WDW style because of the world population (demographics).
Two Distinct experiences now.
The themes at USO are not as recognisable as WDW but that is changing with Mummy and Shrek.
Two Days should be enough to cover USO but bring a change of clothes, YOU WILL GET WET, or should I say SOAKED TO THE BONE. but it is fun doing so.
Take advantage of the deals now for the Two Day Pass, Not the 2 for 5 day pass, because you can go one day and if it doesn't suite you now, you can go back in the future at any time on the second day to the attractions of the two parks you liked, vs the 2 for 5 which expires after 5 days after first day of use.
f you think you like USO experience after the first day then ask about the 3rd day free at guest services the first day or call USO ahead of time.
"ENJOY!!!"

"THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!!"

U will get some who say Disneys better and vice versa but as stated not fair to compare the appeal to all age groups for diff reasons some people think universal is more thrill rides and thats not true they do have major thrill rides in IOA but also great theming and astmosphere:jester:

As stated, Universal is very different. I love them both and can not pick which I like better. Disney is more of an atmosphere character fantasy world, and Universal is a nicely themed park with some great rides that in my opinion more often than not out do those similar at Disney. If you stay on site at Universal, it will cost a little more than many Disney hotels but the FOTL pass will spoil you beyond belief. I think that the hotels proximity to the parks and FOTL pass are what really push Universal to be right there with Disney for me.

I couldn't agree more!

We enjoy US - we usually make a stop there about every other trip. This time we are excited because there are quite a few new things there. I don't feel the 'magic' at US like I do at Disney, but it is very enjoyable.

Prince Eric hit it right on the nose, they are both great in their own way. I always make a split visit, half Disney and half USO/IOA (FOTL will spoil you rotten). If you stay on these boards and learn as much as you can before you go you should have a great time. Good luck. :teeth: :teeth:

Universal and IOA are lots of fun and have rides and attractions that you want to go on again and again. The entrance and theming is far superior to disney too. Disney's Magic Kingdom and Epcot are great theme parks too, especially for first-timers - but we feel once you have been a few times, it doesn't have the "pull" to go back - whereas at Universal and IOA the rides and attractions are so brilliantly themed - you don't get bored and usually catch something that you missed every time. Because of this, we always go a minimum of 3 days to both parks - 1 day in each and a day to do the best of both. Having said that we stayed for 2 weeks as the HRH - and went every other day of our stay and still could have spent longer! :D

We did US and IOA for the first time last week after years of only Disney. We felt they were just diff then Disney, but just as impressive in their theming and cleanliness. We stayed at the Royal Pacific in order to have FOTL and DEF recommend it. We put aside two days, and only need half of both to do all we wanted... big diff from Disney there. I could spend weeks in Epcot alone, but quickly did US and was ready to go. IOA only took a few hours, as well. esp with FOTL, we walked right on. Suppose it depends on if you have children that will want to spend time in the kiddie parts, which we skipped, if you do water rides, which we don't, or if you like to ride things several times. DH and DB went back in on day two to ride things again, but they were done with that rather quickly as well.

I would give two days and take your time. =)

I agree with all the above posters. I would never say one is better than the other, but both experiences are out of this world. However, I do prefer US.

Apples and Oranges - both are fruit, yet different.
WDW-Universal - both are themparks, yet different.
My problem is trying to squeeze them both in on the same trip. If only I had more time and money.
I love them both! :thewave:
