Never been to a HHN. Need lots of info...

I have never been to a HHN before. I read the official website for it and it didn't give me alot of info. What is it exactly? What all is there to do during it? Did you like it? Would you do it again? I read that it is going to be in both USO and IOA this year. What regular attractions will be open during those nights? What hours does it run? I have an AP so is it going to be worth buying the extra ticket? How much will it cost with my AP?

I haven't been to HHN (yet), but I have a good idea to what it is.

It's basically one giant celebration of Halloween, The park(s) are transformed into a haunted attraction.

Basically HHN is composed of haunted houses, scare zones, the Bill and Ted Show, and this year (the return of) the parade.

There's supposed to be 7 haunted mazes this year, and from what I've heard, most of them in the past have been great.

Scare Zones are sections of the park that has "monsters" (scareactors) roaming around the area trying to scare unsuspecting guests.

The Bill & Ted show is a show held in the Toon Lagoon Theater, its usually great from year to year.

And the parade will be at the USF section this year.

HHN IS at parts of both parks this year, at IOA, Marvel, Port of Entry, and Seuss are used. I would assume the attractions in these ares will be open.

At USF, NY, Production Central, San Francisco are being used. I assume most of the attactions (possible exception of Earthquake, not sure) in these areas will be open.

From what I heard its a great event and worth the extra price. If you're going to be at USO during October, I would say go for it! I can't wait until my first HHN this year.

I was at the HHN in IOA last year. First, everything is dark, so the parks look completely different. Most of the sections had scare zones, and scareactors had chainsaws (without the chains), air blowers and other loud things, they chase you and try to scare you, and there are a lot of them.

The haunted houses are all themed differently and are very well done, but they're definitely not for the faint of heart either.

It's probably not a good place to take small children, IMO

Oh, I'm not taking my kids to it, just me and my best friend.
So, everything is dark? No lights anywhere? That would be interesting to see.

There are some lights, lots of fog machines, scareactors inside and outside the houses. We went last year, lots of fun. The houses were great and the rides even better at night. Bill and Ted was very funny, and as posted, definately not for anything less than early teens.

Where do they set up the mazes?

I've heard that they'll be screening the Rocky Horror Picture Show too which I would love.

Some mazes are in soundstages, & some are in the queues of the rides -
HHN is a great event, they really "spooky" up the park with lighting & fog - makes for a really scary fun time

I believe 4 houses are in soundstages, one is in the building behind Doom and Spiderman, one is in the Earthquake queue and one (i think) is in the old Herc/Xena building.

What are the usual hours? We'd be going the first weekend in October--is it usually busy every night it's open or is it less crowded early in the month? This would probably be our only time in the Universal parks since I have the WDW AP, but I know that we'd enjoy the HHN.

Does a person wait until the HHN opening time to get in, or is it similar to WDW and they start letting people in a few hours before the event with only the party ticket (we wouldn't be at Universal that day)?

All I can say is if you're going to be in Orlando in October you have to go, and if you're not going to be , then make it a point to come to orlando for this event. I'ts the best event Universal has and for me it's a must do every year. This yr it's opened Oct 1-2, 8-10, 13-17, 21-24, 28-31. Fridays and saturdays its opened from 7pm -2 am other nights 7pm -midnight. It's definitely less crowded early in the month, but it's going to be crowded every day you go. As far as the rides being open, they open the major rides and coasters, but if you're going to ride then you're not going to have time to see all the haunted houses or the parade or the Bill and Ted show since no line is short for this event. I have an AP so I go to the park in the day ride the rides (usually not too crowded during the Day), if you have a ticket for HHN at 5 o'clock the park closes but you can stay in 2 or 3 of the restaurants in IOA(maybe this yr in USF), eat and at about 6 to 6:15 they let you come out before it's officially open to the public. This way you can hit 2 or 3 houses that are open before the big lines start around 8 pm.
