We are currently on our way back to WV and I must say...we will never go in the summer again! Although we made the trip "doable" by drinking lots of water and taking LONG afternoon breaks, it just isn't worth spending a boatload of money to be miserable. My DH was sick for three days and couldn't ride the bigger rides due to the heat making him nauesated. We've made most of our trips to the World in Dec. And enjoyed ouselves sooooooo much more. Went in the summer this year because we can't take our kids out of school because they are older now. Still made it through the week and had a few wonderful meals and relaxed at the resort (WL).

sorry you had some situations due to the heat. I have to agree with you I would never go to WDW in the summer. I know I would be miserable from the heat as well. Try to make the best of it go to the parks early in the morning,,take a serious break and go back at night and do what you can.

I'm sure the heat was bad, it was hot in May but we were well prepared and expected it to be hot, what we didn't expect is to return home and it be as hot here as it was in Florida and not letting up until yesterday. It has been so miserable here that I couldn't handle being outside for more than 30-60 minutes at a time so I can't imagine all day out in this heat, like at WDW.

Sorry your hubby was sick from the heat -- that would be me, too. Because yeah, I couldn't handle the summer heat there...could barely tolerate late May.

Now DH: he thinks hot & sun is wonderful combo. :thumbsup2

I know, I want to go when its cooler too. The heat doesn't bother me that bad, but one day (our Epcot day) DS, kept stopping, and saying he couldn't breath very well. We had to take lots of stops. Finally, DH took him back to the resort and I stayed and finished up some things I wanted to do. It was very hot this day and full sunshine. The other days in the trip, had some overcast and rain, which really cooled things down. We have to do summer too, DD can't miss a week of school.

The trick is to move down to FL. You may not think you get used to it, but you really do. I used to have an excellent cold tolerance and couldn't breathe well in the heat. Now I thrive on the humidity and freeze my butt off if it's below 70. I do stay very, very well hydrated whenever I'm spending time outside. DH and I often drink Gatorade rather than just water.

My first trip to the World was over the 4th of July 20 years ago. The humidity made it miserable for me. The parks weren't that busy at the time, but I had terrible headaches. I will never go back to Florida in the summer again.

If you need a Disney fix in the summer time - try Disneyland. We were there two weeks ago and the weather was great. No afternoon storms, no humidity, no bugs, etc. Warm during the day, cool at night. Disneyland isn't WDW, but everyone should try it at least once. We had a great time.

Sorry your hubby was sick. We love summer now after years of doing Nov/Dec.

i'm sorry your DH was sick during your trip. i can see how, if you aren't used to the heat, it can really get to you. we were sweating up a storm last week too, but we're more used to the heat. in fact, it was hotter (with higher humidity) here than it was there (while we were there).

the heat can totally wear you down though. i had to let the kids sleep in a little on one morning because they were getting so worn out (and we took afternoon breaks too).

Ugh! I would be miserable, too. My parents are going with my sister and BIL to disney in sept and I have a feeling my mom is going to be miserable with the heat.

To me a hot, busy day at disney is NOT better than a day at home. I know people say that all the time but I just don't understand it!!

Living in WV as well, I totally understand the problems with the heat. I start hydrating the family a good week before we leave. They think I am nuts but it gets them ready for the heat and drinking extra in FL. Sorry you had so many problems in the heat.

Without question the summer is the WORST time to go. The only people who have any reason to be in WDW in June, July, or August are teachers. Anyone claiming they enjoy going that time of year opposed to the Spring or Fall should have their heads checked.

So sorry your husband was sick on vacation. We've gone in August many times now, and also in the cooler months. It's really two different vacations. I love our August trips because the heat forces us to spend more time relaxing and taking it slow. I love the cooler months because we can be in the parks all day long. I overheat easily, but we've developed lots of strategies for dealing with the summer heat and I wouldn't give up our August trips.

I understand your pain. I went in August a few years ago. It was just awful. Standing outside the park, before it even opened and I was covered in sweat so much that I felt like I just stepped out of the shower.

I will do summer never again.

And I always take my kids out of school. Missing one week in the year isn't that bad. They get their assignments from their teachers ahead of time. Then I make they do it while they are there so they don't get too far behind. Maybe a little more evening time for me helping going over anything they missed once we get back but it is totally worth it.

Sorry you were so miserable. Please don't ask me how we did it, but me and my GF went a few weeks ago and it seemed like (in spite of the heat) the best time we ever had. I know, people are different....I use a freakin' ceiling fan in my bedroom during winter, so I'm a hot person. But we were somehow able to just "will" the heat away from us....we just might be ninjas.

Having made several May and early June trips, I must say that I would not consider a WDW vacation any deeper into summer. The heat that builds beyond mid-June would be enough to make it not worth it IMO. My favorite months to go are October (getting some cooler then + MNSSHP) and January (perfect for open-to-close park touring)

We were at WDW the second week of May this year.I'm sure it was not as hot as now, but it makes for lots of down time.We were back at the resort by 5 or 7PM. Just couldn't do anymore. We are going to start going the first week of Jan due to school. Look at the calander and see when the kids go back from the Holiday break.Tina

First of all...I am sorry you are not having such a great time. Secondly, I totally know where you are coming from. We went 3 years ago during August for free dining. We agreed we would not do that again. It just wasn't worth it.

On a side note; we are trying December this year and have never gone then. Can you tell me a little about the wait times I should expect and anything not to be missed?
