I will never stay in a studio again. They are too much like the hotel rooms we have been staying in for the last 7 nights (at least four more to go) while our house is drying out from the flood.

sorry about that.

but yea the studios are a lot like a hotel room only a little better.

so sorry - are you at WDW now - or still at home area waiting?

This is totally why we bought DVC. We needed to upgrade the room size!!

I can understand but I have to say that less people in studios is good news for us ;)

When we travel as 2, I don't mind a studio at all. When we have more than 2, than I get a larger room. I guess it would depend on the ages of my child if I were traveling with a child, but for us, now it is fine as long as we are a couple.

I'm with you on that one, Deb! We will only do a studio for an odd night here or there if we are arriving late or leaving late. And we are usually just 2 of us unless we have guests. If it's 2 of us it's a 1 bedroom. If it's 3 or more, it's a 2 bedroom unless it isn't available.

The part that caught my attention was the part about drying out! If you have had water in your house, you have my sincere sympathy. God bless!

A studio is fine for shorts stays (3 nights), or even a bit longer if it's a studio at BWV or OKW (due to the size). But for longer stays, we do 1-BR all the time even though there are only my DW and I.

That's what I'm afraid of! We'll be staying in a studio for 10 nights next month. There will be 3 adults & 1 child. I know it will be crowded & not much fun. However, next year the in-laws will be going with us & we'll need a 2 bedroom, so we're sacrificing a little this year.

You should have began with "As God is my witness....";)

My husband would say 'Amen' to that!
He just about refuses to stay in a studio and we have not even had a traumatic extended stay in a hotel room!

This too shall pass..... in the mean time :grouphug: .

We never get a studio at OKW, simply because the two beds make it so much like a hotel room. We prefer 'real' studios such as the other resorts (BWV, BCV, VWL, SSR) all have.

The 1-B/R at OKW isn't a lot more points than the Studios at the other resorts. Adventure season, it's 16 pts weeknight, while a Studio at BWV and such is 12 pts/night so if staying at OKW we always get a 1-B/R.

If you can get BWV standard studio, that's one of the best 'values' being really low points, plus location, plus being a 'real' studio.

Points for AKV studios are good but the location isn't the best.

I guess it comes down to why people bought DVC to begin with. If one bought DVC as an extension of their home but for vacations and they expect to spend 7 nights or more at DVC, then yes, a studio just won't cut it.

If instead they bought DVC as a way to visit WDW for 3-5 days without having to break the bank, then a studio probably is not going to bother them.

My quess is if you own 150 points then you fall into the latter group, while if you own 500 points you probably fall into the former group.

As God is my witness, I will never stay in a studio again. Sounds great, Muushka.

They are supposed to be cutting the bottom two feet of sheet rock off our walls today. And pulling up the parquet floor. They got the carpet and padding last week.

I have a feeling we are going to be heading to WDW in a little over two weeks with an unfinished house.

Just returned from 5 resorts in 15 days: Poly, Contemporary, SSR, AKV and Yacht Club. We stayed in a studio at SSR, and it was our 1st time in a 1 bedroom at AKV, and we will never stay in a studio again either, unless it's just my hubby and I and that probably won't be for 15 more years or so as we are always with the babes - LOL!! We don't actually use the kitchen for cooking either - love having the fridge, sink and extra cabinet space.

Loved the 1 bedroom! Tiger :)

P.S. Good luck with your basement.

Arrg - you guys are making me nervous. We've never stayed in a studio for more than a night, but we're staying in one at BWV for 6 nights in September. It's our second trip this year and just the two of us. We had enough points left for this and we wanted to re-use the AP, DDE and golf cards before they expire. So instead of banking, we went for it. I hope we haven't muffed it.

Okay. Deep breath. It's WDW! It's the Boardwalk! How awful can it be? No W/D, no kitchen, no separate bedroom....but it's WDW! It's the Boardwalk!.......

no kidding. we did 11 nights in a studio at VWL last june - with 4 people (2 teenaged girls). fine for us. :confused3

in a few more week we will do 8 nights in a studio at akv and then 3 more nights in an ovir at vero... 4 people me, dh, dd(19) and dd(15).

I'd lose my mind in a normal hotel room for any amount of time (so dark and dreary and generic) - but I could giddily spend a month is a single room at a Ritz Calton or Four Seasons!!

DVC studios don't bother me at all. It's all about location, location, location.

Sorry about the stress of your house flooding. It stinks to be displaced, even temporarily, against your will.

I hope this ordeal will soon be over for you!

I'm fine with studios as long as there's a balcony/patio, I need to have some space outside.
