Ok, I just got with the times and joined Netflix. Give me some suggestions of what to put on my queue. I only have four so far and am drawing a blank already.

First and foremost, search for what you like. For things you might not think of or consider, check out this list. I got it in an email subscription list.

75 Things Worth Watching on Netflix Streaming

I consider Netflix streaming to be one of the best bargains out there in entertainment. For $9 a month (assuming you have a home internet connection), you gain access to an enormous libraries of commercial-free films and television series. You can choose what you want and, if your internet connection is fast, you’ll be watching it within a minute or so.

One problem-within-a-blessing with Netflix streaming, though, is that there is a mountain of content on there – and a fair amount of it is awful. You have to dig around to find good stuff on there, but if you can dig a bit, there’s a lot of good stuff.

Which brings us to a reader email. Tom writes in:

You’ve mentioned great finds on Netflix streaming several times on The Simple Dollar. Why don’t you collect all of them into one place, so we can book mark it?

Your wish is my command.

Below are 75 things I’ve found on Netflix streaming that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed, from television series to documentaries, from comedies to dramas. I’m positive that somewhere on this list, there are a few things that you haven’t seen that you’ll love. Some of these you’ve seen me mention before. Others are new.

I’ve broken the list down into some arbitrary categories. Also, all television series are linked to the first season of the series – many series have multiple seasons on Netflix streaming. I’m also going to challenge myself to describe each entry in the length of a tweet – 140 characters or less. (You can, of course, click through to read more information.)

It’s also worth noting that this list is current as of early April 2011. Netflix constantly makes small adjustments to the programs they offer on streaming, so inevitably a few of these will disappear over time, while other interesting stuff is added.

Go to the link for the actual list.

One of the films on that list caught my attention. "Man on Wire", a documentary on the high-wire walk between the the twin towers in 1974 and how it was done. I knew of the high-wire walk, but very little. Fascinating film.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to put it on there. Adding away now :)

Add a few of your favorite movies/TV shows to your queue even if you don't want to watch them again, and give them five-star ratings (just takes a second). Netflix will make recommendations based on movies you like. You can then delete the movies you don't really want to watch (again it's easy).

Also, be sure you check your queue before you send back a movie. Netflix is FAST to send your next movie and sometimes I forget to reorder my queue in time.

I think Netfliz has some of the best customer service around. Every once in a while I'll get a scratched DVD (inevitable), and all I have to do is report it and they'll send another copy of the movie immediately, before I send the scratched one back. Also, if the movie I want isn't at the nearest distribution center (thus taking a little longer to arrive), they'll go ahead and send the next one in my queue since I had to wait (basically means you have an extra movie for a day or two). It's super easy to put your membership on hold if you're going on vacation or just want to take a break from movie watching for a minute. And we can stream through our Wii.

Can you tell I LOVE Netflix? It really is a great entertainment bargain.

The best thing about Netflix is the streaming feature. Do you have that OP?

I have to say I love streaming through my Wii. I also have an XBOX360 and a SONY Blu Ray that I can stream to.

Currently I have "Black Swan" and "The King's Speech" at home.

Streaming I am watching "Black Butler" (Japanese Anime)

Have to toss in some of my UK favorites tv wise: Doctor Who, Torchwood, Primeval, Sarah Jane Adventures and Being Human.

I've been using the streaming feature with Wii and have been watching old episodes of Melrose Place. But I noticed a lot of movies aren't available for streaming so I needed to make a queue. The things I do to kill the last hour of work. :rolleyes1

I'm loving Netflix so far! Thanks for the feedback! :)

Hey OP, tell us a few of your favorite movies and see if we can't make some good recommendations for you. I wonder how close we can get to Netflix's recommendations.

My favorite movies are all over the place! Some are

Stand By Me
Forrest Gump
Wayne's World
Mean Girls
The Mighty Ducks
The Lion King
The Breakfast Club
Back to the Future
The Devil Wears Prada
Hairspary
Dirty Dancing
When Harry Met Sally
American Psycho

Wow, that last one really does not fit in at all. :lmao:

Instant queue - Dh has a bunch of American History stuff in the queue. DS16 has war related stuff (WWII, Korean War, Army, etc.). DS11 has the Hardy Boys. I have BBC Survivors (really good!), old shows from the 80's, and the random post-apocalyptic show. I'm always looking for more!

DVD queue - between the 4 of us we've over 200 movies! Most are mine - 80's and 90's shows mostly. I guess I'm trying to relive my childhood.

::yes:: I get so excited when I see shows on there from when I was a kid. I need to find the Snick shows. If I see Are You Afraid of the Dark on there, I might pass out from sheer joy.

A few months ago DH and I watched all of the movies featured on the Great Movie Ride - from Footlight Parade all the way to Wizard of Oz.

I guess I should toss out the link I use to keep up to date with the latest Netflix info, plus it puts out the new releases for the week every week.
