Netflix ?????????

You know what? I DO have a complaint about Netflix. It's possible I'm doing something wrong, so maybe someone here can correct me. I find that it is hard to know what new releases are coming out when. Even when I go into "browse" and "new releases" I'm pretty sure the results show things that aren't necessarily brand new, kwim? I think I'm missing a lot of new movies. Does anyone else find this to be true?

Amen!

Thanks for the info N.Bailey because I was just going to scout out a couple of movies to add because I have "9" at the top with a "short wait" and "Paranormal Activity" with a "long wait".

Oh, one more thing. The way I add new releases to my list on Netflix is to go to my local movie theater's websites and see what's playing. If I'm interested I just add them to my Netflix list under the "saved" section. Then when the movies are about to be released they automatically go to the bottom of my regular list and I just move them up to the top.

This is what I do too.

Love it!! Totally worth it. We are looking into getting a blu ray player and when we do, we will watch the instant stuff even more..

How does this work? We have a blu ray player but I had no idea I could get the instant play on it!

We've been with Netflix for a couple years now, and we love it! :thumbsup2
You can change plans anytime you want.....right now we have 6 DVDs out at a time. But we've had a lot of free time lately. Before the next billing cycle I'll go in and switch it back to 4 out at a time. (Netflix makes it really easy to switch between plans. You can also put your membership on hold for when you go on vacation.)

Customer service has been excellent. Every so often we'll get a DVD that won't play and they've always been great about sending another out for us. By the way, turn around time for us is 3 days. If I put out a DVD Monday morning, then we'll get another one Thursday.

There's been a couple instances where the DVD doesn't match the sleeve it came in. (So I'll get some weird Sci-Fi movie in a 'When Harry Met Sally' sleeve!) So that can be annoying, but as I said, it's only happened maybe twice in the past two years.

Forgot to mention about new DVD releases. This is maybe one of the biggest pitfalls of Netflix that I've experienced. They don't have millions of copies of the new releases, so there's usually a wait. Depending on the popularity of the movie, it can be a very long wait.

When you add a movie to your que line there is a column listed 'Expected Availablity'. It'll say, Now, Short Wait, Long Wait, or Very Long Wait.

So, if you have a new DVD release that is next to ship out, and it says 'Short Wait', we usually receive the DVD in two or three weeks. It'll take upwards of 4 weeks to 8 weeks (sometimes longer!) to get a DVD that says 'Very Long Wait.' :sad1: At least, that's what we've experienced.

But nonetheless, we still like Netflix. We tend to rent older stuff anyway. Lots of tv series!

We have the three a month plan. I mailed a movie back on Saturday, and got a new one today. I think that if you have the one at time plan, it would not be difficult to watch 8 movies a month. Mail on Monday, get it Wed. Mail it back Thursday, get a new one Saturday. I've never had a problem with customer service. A few times we got a DVD that didn't work, we called them up and they mailed immediately they don't wait to get the defective one back. My husband watches a LOT of the on-demand one on his Xbox. It has been very rare that we had to wait a long time for a new release...usually we get it within one or two weeks of it coming out, which is fast enough for me.

According to the Associated Press:
A Morgan Stanley analyst downgraded Netflix Inc. Friday, citing the DVD rental company's stock price, the potential for postal rate hikes and increasing competition.

In a note to clients Friday, Morgan Stanley's Scott Devitt cut Netflix to "Equal Weight" from "Overweight." He pointed out the recent rally in Netflix shares, which hit an all-time of $71.59 on Thursday.

Devitt also cited a drive by the postal service to hike rates and cancel Saturday service. Either of those moves could hurt Netflix by raising the cost of shipping DVDs or delaying the time it takes them to get to customers. The postal service is facing a projected loss of $7 billion this year.

Devitt also pointed to competition from companies such as Redbox, which has thousands of vending machines across the U.S. that rent out DVDs for $1 per night.
