Netflix - Wii ....anyone using this? Tell me about it...

I think we need a thread of streaming Netflix suggestions. Like everyone pointed out, you pretty much have to get online to add things to your Instant Queue, you can't search on the Wii. Half the time I get online and can't think of any shows.

Oh, and I think I have watched one movie on the Wii. It's just sooooo good to watch tv shows on.

I'm gonna add Dexter right now. I will be happy to take any other suggestions!

Did you ever see the Fox show, Firefly? It's a sci fi show with a western twist and was really pretty good. They only had one season, but did a follow up movie due to fan support.

ETA: I've only seen an episode or two of the Guild, but hubby watches it and loves it!

We've recently discussed dropping our cable/telephone service and keeping only the high speed internet...there are so many cable channels that we really don't watch.

Is there anyone who has Nextflix and uses their Wii to download movies/shows/etc?

How do you like it?

How well does it work?

Would you consider it a suitable "replacement" for cable/satellite TV?

Channels we mainly watch are Discovery, TLC, TV Land, Travel, and History, Food Network.

We've been considering ROKU but wondered if Netflix through Wii would be adequate?

Would the Wii serve the same basic function as the ROKU converter?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge...

Don't know much about ROKU either but we have Wii and it has a ton of tv shows on it from the channels you watch. It doesn't do HD but we also have the PS3 and that streams HD for Netflix. We get movies all the time. It works out fine and it's only $9 and month so it is better than renting a movie or getting one off Dish. It is easy to load up your queue from your laptop so your shows are ready when you put in you Netflix disk.

Thanks for starting this thread! DH and I are considering canceling cable and using a combination of Netflix and online services (Hulu, network's sites, etc.). I'll have to check in our internet bandwidth but I think that's the route we're going to go.

We've got 70 cable channels...only really watch about ten of them...just hate paying that bill...

that's why we're seriously considering this...

nothing to lose with a one month free trial...

I really wish the cable companies would wake up and start offering a la carte. We could probably narrow it down to about 4 or 5 channels and use Hulu and Netflix to supplement the rest.

I believe that online tv and movies have to be a big threat for the cable industry. They have never had competition, really. I guess you could count satellite, but it's not much different than cable.

I can't complain about the quality of service we've received from Cox. Just hate paying for all those channels I have absolutely no intention of ever watching. I've got a bunch of channels "deleted" from our tv memory so when I'm surfing, it skips over them.

They won't offer a la carte programming because they won't make any money. They bundle with channels you won't watch so you will buy the package with the 5 - 10 channels you want in it. It always seems that the channel you want is in the next package that is 10-15 dollars more a month than you're paying now. The cable companies should be worried when the choices are now getting very diverse with all of the options there are now. We have no pay channels and don't have a blockbuster card anymore since getting Netflix. :surfweb:
